  1. So we have a houseful of family, including a 4 year old grandson. Frankly, I was a bit worried how Cara would react to new humans in her territory, including a small loud one. Cara's reaction? "Ah, new peoples to train to rub my tummy on demand!" All new humans were trained within 2 hours...
  2. Okay, she's taking the mickey now!! Work it baby!!
  3. After the Great Global Greyhiund Walk, we popped into a dog-friendly cafe and I. The freezer was frozen yoghurt for dogs. After my Yorkshire Accountant reaction of "OW MUCH???" I contacted my bank to arrange for a suitable overdraft to purchase one, and she adored it. But I'm not paying that... So, digging the ice cream maker out from the cupboard under the sink, production commenced! She likes blueberry. She really likes peanut butter and banana (so much so that she even stole and ate the cardboard tub it was in!) but I was wondering if anyone else makes their own, and what flavours have been enjoyed by your hounds? And maybe even your humans too!
  4. Hi Lucy, the one she's almost resting her nose on? That's Ikea
  5. We've decided not to. Cara is still getting used to being a pet and even though this would be her sister, and from the same racing kennel, I don't think it would be fair to her to have to adapt from being the dog to being a dog, if that makes any sense? There's still a part that wants to, but it's not shouting as loud as the part saying that now's not the time.
  6. Oh, despite having lots of loves and strokes and peoples telling her what a good girl she is, she does look like she thinks she's going to get told off at any minute, bless her!
  7. It's a slippery slope. Next she'll be allowed upstairs, then on the bed...
  8. ...for I said "she is not to lay on any of the sofas" when Cara came home. I lasted 8 weeks...
  9. We've gone from "maybe" to "no, it's not practical" to "possibly" to "our minds are made up, just one dog" and are back to "let's sleep on it" in the space of a few hours. Money's not a problem. Space might be... I can't conceive of two hounds doing morning zoomies simultaneously in a relatively small space. One of us is usually working from home, but the logistics of getting not one but two hounds out the door for morning walks when they're blocking doorways/excitedly prancing around/generally arsing about instead of standing still to get their leads on...could make logging in to work on time stressful. Thinking about it, but thank you all for the advice and sound words. Thinking about it...
  10. Thank you for saying so, the wildflower hill and wildlife pond (and hedgehog house!!) are recent additions. 🙂 The collar matching the birdbath is a complete coincidence. Honest. 😉
  11. 8 weeks ago, I adopted my girl, a 4-year old retired racer. When I adopted her, I received her racing history and pedigree, and happened to see one of her litter-mates was actually running at the local greyhound stadium today, so I went along to watch. I got chatting with her trainer, and he was delighted that one of his hounds had found a good home, and mentioned that her sister was running today, and that she'd be retiring as soon as they could find a home for her. So I'm considering it. Has anyone adopted a litter-mate of their hound? Do they necessarily get along? Any advantages or pitfalls I should consider first??
  12. Here's a better view of "Mount Cara," showing her trying to decide if the snails in the pond are edible for dogs...
  13. @MerseyGrey1,000,000% I have. I've had dogs before, and I've adored them, but Cara is utterly different!!
  14. So, I took Cara for a walk today. Now, she's a very sociable dog, she loves to speak to other dogs and their owners. But we bumped into someone walking some yappy little terrier-prey-beast creature. And Cara just ignored it as it pranced around, didn't engage with it at all. The owner of the thing said "oh, greyhounds can be so aloof can't they?" Aloof?? Aloof?? My beloved angel aloof?? No. I think you'll find your dog is just too dull for her to bother engaging with, thank you very much!! If you want my girl to be bothered with your dog, buy a better dog!!! Sorry, I just felt the need to vent! 😁
  15. ...which she never, EVER does!! She likes the hill we made her
  16. Awwh, you guys say nice things!! Highland Hound do some beauuuutiful martingale collars.
  17. A long walk to the fish and chip shop 🤣 Though it's a great cure for statueing...dangle a bag of fish 6 inches in front of her nose!
  18. ...and she did me proud! My baby has a new Harris tweed collar from Highland Hound!
