Newbie, be gentle (2/9)

  1. Thanks for your advice all. He has been lovely this morning but looked quite sheepish - think he knows he’s done wrong. He tried to get on the sofa so I just told him no and back to his bed and then praised him when he got in his bed. Think we’ll keep it like this for a few days and see how we get on. Will give him a good pat down to see if any injuries too that’s a good shout!
  2. Yeah it’s just strange because he hasn’t been funny about it before - maybe now he just feels confident enough to tell me!! I definitely won’t do that to him again as he clearly didn’t like it!
  3. Hi all, after a bit of advice and reassurance please. We have had our retired greyhound Timmy since October (our second grey, we lost our first girl Misty in June) and so far he has seemed to settle in really great, he has a gentle nature and has been very well behaved and generally a typical greyhound - loves food, fine with walks, loves sleep! On a couple of occasions he has growled in his sleep but never at us or another dog. Then suddenly this week he has growled at a dog on his walk and then when on the sofa with my partner a couple of nights ago he has growled at him. Tonight he was on the sofa and I’ve stroked him (he was 100% awake) then went to kiss his head and he has growled and snapped at me! It’s really shook me up because it’s not the lovely gentle boy I’ve started to fall in love with! I made him get off the sofa and in to his own bed and gave him a stern shouting too. He looked suitably ashamed! But I’m now anxious about what we do next. Anyone else experienced this? Is he just pushing boundaries now he’s 6 months in to our home? Any advice would be massively appreciated x
  4. Morning, sorry for such a gross topic but we have noticed lately that we think our new boy is eating his own poo! 😩 we have had Timmy 3 months now, ex racer and he has settled in great - seems very happy with his new life! He has one main meal at tea and 2 small meals at breakfast and lunch and he goes on 2 good walks a day. Then he sleeps for the rest of the time - standard!!! The night before last we let him out for his usual night time wee before bed and we noticed that he was sniffing at something and looked like he was eating it. It was dark so in the morning we looked and it was a rogue poo that we had missed picking up! Definitely looked like he had eaten some of it. He never does this when we are out on walks and this is the first time it’s happened! when I’ve googled it it says it can be attention seeking but he did it when he didn’t know we were watching so can’t see it being that! He seems perfectly fine and healthy so I’m a bit stumped. Any ideas? thanks as always!
  5. Yes!!! It’s exactly like that! ahhh he is gorgeous, and looks very excited!! that is very reassuring thank you 😊
  6. Haha what are they like!!! Thanks all. I mean his tail is generally wagging at the same time so I wasn’t overly concerned but it’s good to know others do it! Thanks from me & Timmy!
  7. We have a new retired greyhound, had him about 3 months and mainly he shows the same behaviours etc as our previous girl and he is settling in a treat! He just does one thing that I’ve never seen before. When we give him a treat, and sometimes with his tea, he will start to make funny choking breathing noises BEFORE we’ve given it him! It’s like he is over excited. I can’t find anything on line to say if this behaviour is normal or not so I just wondered if anyone else’s greyhounds did this?!
