  1. Sugar just had her second injection (well, third really, she had two the first time around) It made a HUGE difference for her! She was so bad (arthritis) that the day before Thanksgiving, we had to carry her into the vet, she could only stumble a few steps before falling A course of Pred and lots of pain killers got her walking, but still slowly and painfully. About a week later, she got an acupuncture treatment and her first Adequan shot. Second shot a few days later, and a few days after that, she was running in the back yard! OK, short runs, but she obviously felt so much better. It lasted almost two months before I could tell she needed another shot. I know it doesn't work this well for all dogs, but that is the only negative I have heard of, sometimes it has little or no effect.
  2. I am sorry to say I have been there too. When I couldn't get Sugar to eat anything else, she would drink vanilla Ensure. The other thing that she ate often (but not always) was rabbit flavor dry cat food. What got her appetite back (she has bad arthritis and other back end problems) was getting her pain under control with Tramadol, Metacam, acupuncture and Adequan shots. I also give her a Pepcid twice a day with all her other pills. I put them in Pill Pockets (she likes the chicken flavor cat ones ), It takes four Pill Pockets for all her pills (heart meds & thyroid, too) but she thinks she is getting treats. I hope you can fiure out what's causing this and Shanti starts to feel better.
  3. You didn't mention if she was getting sub-q fluids. I think that is a big help in supporting what kidney function she has left, and making her feel better. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the homeopathic treatments you mentioned.
  4. I am glad to hear she has adjusted so well! Dogs and cats don't seem to stress about this sort of thing like we do. Their attitude is more like "well, this is how things are now, I'll deal" Would you mind if I sent that poem to a friend of mine? She has just adopted an almost blind and partialy deaf dog (not a grey). I think she would like it.
  5. There are some weeks I call the vet and just say, Hi, it's me
  6. It's hard to loose them when they have been with you so long
  7. potting soil I agree, one stick of margarine shouldn't do anything but maybe some loose poops.
  8. It is sooo good to see her coming back to herself!
  9. I know from personal experience, neck pain is, well, a pain! I hope she starts to feel better soon.
  10. I am glad to hear she is feeling better! Back injuries do take a long time, and if she has disc problems, she could re-injure herself down the road. Sugar started on this merry-go-round in September . What has helped keep her from reinjuring her back is acupuncture. I don't know how available it is in your area, but I highly recommend it.
  11. Sugar takes some Chinese herbs for her arthritis, and they are in a very fine powder form. She wouldn't eat any of the things I mixed them in until the vet gave me a "receipe" that one of her other patients had come up with. I mix a measured amount (usually a couple of weeks worth) with ground beef, first making a paste of the powder and water, because the powder is so fine it takes forever to mix it dry. When it is pretty well mixed, make a kind of flat meatloaf (about 1/2"-1" thick) and bake it at 325 for about 45 min. When it is cool, cut into the number of squares that you put in doses of. In other words, a two week supply (twice a day), 28 cubes. I put them up in 5 day batches, and freeze. You could do meatballs, but personally, I think there are few things more boring than making meatballs The trick seems to be in cooking the meat, it must disguise the taste. Whatever, she thinks she is getting treat!
