Newbie, be gentle (2/9)

  1. We've already spoken to a behaviourist about it, I'm more interested to see if anyone else has experienced this. I've search high and low and there's tons of threads and advice about reactivity to dogs on walks but I've not seen anyone else have an issue with reactivity to people on walks.
  2. Hello there, I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. We adopted our grey in June, for the first three or four months he was brilliant on walks, we had the odd reaction to other dogs but normally this was because he was uncomfortable with them charging up to him off lead or lunging in his face so was nothing to worry about. However, in October one walk he had a random outburst at an old man walking down the street barking and lunging in an extremely aggressive manner, and this behaviour carried on for the rest of the walk at any people or dogs in sight. It didn't happen again for a while although he became more and more reactive to other dogs since then. In January it happened again, seemingly triggered by nothing - he went berserk at people on walks and at dogs and has been happening with increasing frequency since then although not every walk. We have had him checked at the vet including a fully thyroid panel. He has been diagnosed as hypothyroid but I understand this can be over diagnosed in greys. We're hoping that this is the trigger and he can be calmed down by the thyroid medication but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before? We were fully prepared for some reaction to dogs but not people. He's also very reactive to people entering the house, so much so, we can't have guests round. We were confident we would be able to tackle this but the reaction walks feels like a bridge too far for us as inexperienced owner. So basically I was wondering if there's anyone else who has experienced this and how did they deal with it?
