  1. Thanks! I will see how he does in a month. He is getting a little better with his dandruff, so I will continue to watch him and see how it goes.
  2. Wow! I had no idea about the hot/warm showers!! Thanks for the heads up!
  3. Mersey Grey...my greyhound is a brindle. =-)
  4. Thanks! How often do you bathe your greyhound? It’s cold here, so I was thinking of waiting until the Spring.
  5. We got him on Dec. 7th. That may be the case!! We might just have to wait it out, then!
  6. Thank you, LaFlaka, I will try that!
  7. Ooh! I have given him canned sardines! He does love them! Maybe I’ll add them to his food more often! Thank you!
  8. Why can’t I get rid of my hounds dandruff???? I brush him every other day! He eats Purina Pro Plan, and Bernie’s Perfect Poop. I sometimes supplement his food with eggs, or yogurt, or sweet potato, or carrots. Is there something else I can do? His coat also looks very dry. We are in Maine, so it might be the weather?
  9. Thank you! I am going to ask my ver about it!
  10. What is everyone using for file/tick prevention? I got Effitix Plus from my veterinarian, but when I put it on my greyhound, it just lays on top of his fur, I even tried rubbing it in, but it is just a big mess! What does everyone else use?
  11. Yes, we plan on using his crate all the time. It’s his bed, and it’s his safe spot for whenever he needs it. Just making sure it’s normal for him to go in there during the day! =-)
  12. We adopted our wonderful greyhound Fionn, on Dec. 7th. He has been doing great. He sleeps in his kennel every night, and sometimes he goes in it himself without us telling him it’s time for night nights. Even when we tell him night night, he gets up and goes right into his kennel. It’s his safe and happy place. However, since we’ve gotten him, he has NEVER laid in his kennel during the day except for one time when he had a belly ache. For the last 2 days, he has been laying in his kennel during the day. Should I be concerned? He doesn’t seem upset or anything, and he lets me pet him when he’s in there laying down. I’m just wondering if this is normal, or should I be concerned?

  14. So...the VERY FIRST day that we had Fionn, (Mon. Dec. 7th) I got his tail caught in the door. =-(. When he came in from his walks, blood would spray EVERYWHERE!!! I took him to the vet just to meet his new vet, and get him tested for parasites. (The adoption center did not do this, as it is too cost prohibitive.). Anyway...no parasites, YAY! However, I was told that he needed the tip of his tail amputated due to me catching it in the door. $1,000.00 later (YIKES) and he is doing much better! Today (Tues. Jan. 5th) when my hubby took him out of his crate (with muzzle on because of amputation), his bandage was off. The vet told us that the bandage has to stay on for 2 weeks. So...we called the vet, and the doctor put on a new bandage ($45.00). Needless to say, that lasted about 30 minutes. He was playing with his blanket, and it fell off. We tried to rebandage it, but, I must have hit a sore spot because he yelped and jumped, and caused my hubby to get a bloody nose! (His head hit my hubby’s nose). Anyway, I called the vet AGAIN, and she said to let it be, and try to just wrap a gauze around it tomorrow. It is not bleeding, and he is not bothering it. I’m wondering if it could just stay off for now? Also...when we first brought Fionn home, he LOVED bananas as a treat, and Earth Bones. Today he wanted no part of either one of them. Could it be due to his injury, or do greyhounds change what they like and what they don’t? We also got him a big bone from our local farmer that he LOVED on Monday and Tuesday, and showed absolutely NO interest in it today. Should I be worried? He is eating his normal food twice a day, so that’s good...he’s just not interested in treats today. Maybe he’s in pain from his bandage coming off? I might be overthinking things, and hopefully everything is okay!!
  15. I have been using something called Bernie’s perfect poop, and it’s helping a lot!! He still has some smelly farts, but no nearly as many as before we tried it!
  16. Thank you for posting this. Being a new pet owner, I had no idea that this even existed, so I was a little taken aback when my vet mentioned it! Thank you for enlightening me!
  17. Thank you! She (the vet) mentioned it to me, and didn’t expect an answer right away. She said it would be awhile before he donated if all the tests were okay. I just wanted to see what people in here thought about it first! =-).
  18. Thank you for your reply! This is all very new to me!
  19. Thank you! I just wasn’t sure about it, since it’s our first doggie! The vet said that if I decide to do it, it wouldn’t actually happen for awhile. He would have to be on heartworm medicine for 6 months before donating, and worm free...which he is. We just got his stool sample back.
  20. So, we just adopted our beautiful greyhound, Fionn, on Dec. 7th. We immediately scheduled a vet appointment to bring a stool sample, and just do a healthy visit. The vet suggested him giving blood. What are anyone’s thoughts on this? Is this something that greyhound owners do??
  21. Oh my goodness! My son came for Christmas, and my new to us (2 weeks) greyhound is acting very shy and anxious! Is this normal??? After a week of keeping our new grey (Fionn) in a crate, we decided to let him out to explore around our house. Since then, he has been reluctant to go into his crate on his own. We put him in there every night, he doesn’t want to go in, but he does, with no problem. Anyway...tonight, our son came for Christmas. Out grey would NOT “play” with my hubby on the floor like usual, and is very timid and shy around my son. He actually went into his cage and laid down ON HIS OWN! When we were sitting in the room watching TV. Is this normal? How can I make my new grey feel more at ease with my son? He is NOT being aggressive or anything, he just seems very shy and uncomfortable. How can we make him feel more comfy?
