  1. I assume Katie doesn't have the collar anymore...yay! My girl has one on now as she was just spayed and I had to figure out something too. In case you ever need to use one in the future....of course the collar falls off as their had is smaller than their neck. I really don't even understand what anyone putting it on a greyhound thinks....why would it not come right off? So, I've made a harness type of loop by tying one end of a bandage wrapper onto one of the loops (of the collar) and then put the wrapper under her armpits and on the other side brought it back up and tied the other end to another loop of the collar. This has worked amazingly, as you can imagine, as the "harness" keeps the collar on. And she's also way more comfortable. The harness is comfy on her....doens't restrict her movement and is soft and wide (unlike a piece of gauze would be) and MOST importantly, it's safe!...as she can't push the cone off her head in a millisecond like she did before. Whew...problem solved.
  2. My girl is almost 2 years old. She doesn't have any issues but I like giving her MSM as I'm a huge believer of it (having been on it myself for many many years). Can I get some input from a lot of you (I hope : ) the more the better) as to what you think is a good daily dosage is and if at any time they should start getting more if any issues exist? Thank you, in advance!
  3. I was told by the adoption group once my newly adopted retired racer has gone through her dental cleaning (under anesthesia) I will have to brush her teeth once a week. What do grey parents do? How do you brush? What do you brush with? Do you really do it once a week or less or more frequently? Is there anything else I should know? My baby's teeth are "like new"....I'm absolutely shocked at what a difference the cleaning (while under) has done. I'm really impressed even though I was sobbing and horrified while leaving her there to be put under for surgery and dental cleaning....beyond stressful day....but what's the best way to care for them in the case of greys? : )

  5. Oh wow, every week or two!!?!??!? I had no idea! It's been 6 weeks that she had them trimmed the day I got her....before they released her. They seem quite short still, probably due to daily (2 / day) walks on asphalt and she hasn't walked in days now since she's post surgery this week. I wonder if a trim IS DUE now....thank you!
  6. Thank you! I imagine the frequency of trimming is highly dependent on walks and diet but how often do you take yours to get his/her nails trimmed?
  7. I'm a new grey mommy and I have the same issue. My little girl has had pretty much soft poop ONLY for the 6 weeks I've had her (maybe 3 firm poops total) until she was just spayed this week...and the medication constipated her :'( Thank you for the recommendation! My question is: why give this product instead of carrots (fresh or cooked)? Would carrots in their natural state not work? I will try carrots for her, of course, and let you know! : ) but I thought I'd ask...
  8. I'm new here with a retired racer I was fortunate to bring home 6 weeks ago : ) I see that this thread is really old and hasn't been commented on in a while but I'd love to know what has been found out since! Is there a summary or the latest studies posted on greyhound epilepsy anywhere on this page? It's my first day on this page so I apologize if I'm missing something obvious. I'd love to educate myself about this topic (as well as any other grey dis-eases) to do my best to PREVENT my sweet girl from having any of these issues. Thank you very much for the help and I'm SO SORRY for your losses and existing conditions! :'( I can't even imagine dealing with / watching an animal suffer and pass away prematurely due to disease(s). So so sorry!!!
  9. Thank you! I was wondering if a dremel would be better than clippers! I appreciate your help! : )
  10. Warning: New Greyhound Mommy here! : ) I have rescued a retired racer girl 6 weeks ago today and I have not bought anything to trim her nails yet. What is the BEST tool to take care of this efficiently, and with NO pain? I have had animal babies (not dogs) that hated their nails trimmed/clipped and I don't even know how she will be and what would be least annoying... Thanks, in advance!
