  1. The unofficial motto of being a greyhound owner is "Time, Patience and a Sense of Humour"

Another been there done that and threatened to take her back. It's a sharp learning curve for both greyhound and new owner but as the others have said, it does get better.

Apparently on my road a 6ft 2in man used to be seen carrying a black greyhound home with a look of exasperation on his face. But that was four years ago :D

  2. Guinness is a master of Zoomie Ninja Feng Shui. When I go into the hall to get my coat and car keys Grace follows me to make sure I don't forget anything. Keys, coat, outside shoes, treats.
Meanwhile I can hear Guinness rushing around rearranging his toys and bedding but when I go back into the room he's laying on his bed looking innocent as if nothings been happening :rofl

  3. I mix three different flavours from two different manufactures of kibble for my two but it's a lottery on how much of each if any at all appear in their bowls so the flavour mix varies each time.

Just going back to the Purina, was it an old sack or been stored in a damp place or next to something else that made it smell different in the shop you bought it from?

  4. Before I got Guinness he was having trouble with his shoulder and or his front leg. The vet couldn't find anything but wanted his adoption charity to spend hundreds of more pounds investigating. Luckily for Guinness and the charity's bank account the greyhound physio from the next door racing kennels had a look and after a couple of sessions had him back to normal. She had managed to release a trapped nerve in his neck.

  5. Grace and Guinness have divided up their responsibilities. After our morning walk I sit and have a coffee until it's time for breakfast. Grace then follows me into the kitchen and makes sure I'm doing it right while Guinness watches the action from his bed in the other room waiting until the sound of the bowl hitting the feeding stand before rushing in to claim his meal.

For the second meal of the day (midday dental chew don't count) Guinness comes into the kitchen to check on the progress while Grace roaches on the sofa waiting to be called before meandering in.

That's what you call teamwork :D

Mercury will come to be at bed time with a pitiful look on his face.  I know he's gotten a piece of his bedtime biscuit caught in his cheek.  He comes to me. I poke it back into his mouth.  He chomps it up and goes to bed.  Good to know I'm useful for something.

I think it's great when they come to you for help and the trust that they show to know you will try your best to put things right even if they are in pain. Not that I'm saying a biscuit crumb caught in the cheek is high on the pain scale :D

  7. When I got Guinness I made sure I gave Grace, my first greyhound, her treats first. I also put Grace's food down first and put her lead on first when going out for walkies. What I'm trying to say is to give your grey his treats, food and fuss first so he knows in your eyes he's still the boss and hasn't got to fight for his place.

Yep. We used to hire a field for half an hour. For two minutes, Buddy would run around and shake the toys we had brought. The next 28 minutes were spent with my husband and I throwing a frisbee or ball to each other. We got more exercise than the dog, and would reward ourselves with a bacon butty at the cafe on site. Buds would get a frozen yogurt.

    Can't fault you :D

  9. I've had Grace for 4 years and she is a nervous dog and similar to Louie in that after she's finished her Kong she'll lie on the sofa with her ears pricked and panting. This will go on sometimes for a couple of hours but she will eventually lie down and go to sleep. When I was working she would be on her own for up to 6 hours which didn't seem to bother her after the initial panting session so came to accept that that is the way she is.

  10. As well as the suggestions mentioned above I wonder if there is a generation on new dog owners who have never had a dog as a family pet so their concept of ownership is through rose tinted spectacles. They think dogs are fully trained and well adjusted to family life from birth and with the Covid lockdowns the puppy/dog classes have been closed so professional help has been in short supply.

  11. Walking Grace this morning I noticed a large grey smooth lump on her gum under her back teeth :(

Plucking up courage and thinking of my bank account I carefully touched it thinking it could be an abscess but it was quite firm to the touch. As she didn't seem to be in any pain I prodded it more firmly and it started to break away :eek

The relief when I realised it was some of last nights charcoal biscuit she'd eaten while laying on her side and obviously saving for Ron :D

    Ron = lateR ON
