  1. Thanks for the heads ups. I was wondering how I would go about collecting a urine sample. Has anyone else heard of the hookworm/accident correlation or have any references on it?
  2. We'll definitely check for a UTI. She still does it even when were home and around her so I ruled out separation anxiety. She just have her initial check up with out vet and they confirmed that she has hookworm, which we started the medication for, but I hadn't seen anything relating hookworm to accidents. Thanks for the thought!
  3. Thanks for the advice. When I went to the hardware store and she had the accident, it was after a 30-40 minute walk. The randomness is what gets me. She hold it all night, 8 or so hours. When shes loose all day while we have an eye on her, nothing.
  4. Hello all! I searched for an answer but couldn't find a situation that matched mine. We've had our first greyhound for 3 or so years and from day one, she's never had an accident. We welcomed our second greyhound about a month ago. We started her off by confining her to a small area of the kitchen with her bed but she would get so anxious, cry, and eventually escape. So then we confined her to a larger area of the kitchen. When she's in there for the whole work day, she doesn't seem to pee but sometimes will still escapes that area too. We figured since she escaped that area anyway, we've given her and our other greyhound free reign together of the kitchen and living room. However, when we leave for short outings, she pees. Yesterday, I ran to the gym for about an hour and came back to find an accident. Then today, my fiance left for no longer than 2 hours and came back to a pee spot on the carpet. An added instance is last night, she finished dinner and peed on the carpet while we were just in the other room. Of these three examples, she had been taken out and peed not long before leaving/the accident. We scold when she pees inside and praise(treats and pets) when she pees outside. If we're going outside just for a pee break, she runs out, pees pretty quickly, and then heads back towards the door so she knows the deal. Do we need to fortify that small area of the kitchen so she can't escape untill she stops having accidents? Do we need to go buy a crate and start from scratch? She doesn't have a problem with #2 and she will stay in her bed all night and not have an accident. Does anybody see something that we are missing? Thank you for any advice!
  5. Thanks for all the great info. Shes not straining or pacing, she just doesn't go. Happy as a clam otherwise. I'll try the pumpkin. Thanks guys!
  6. Hello! My 4-year-old Darla hasn't had any stomach troubles since we got her 2 years ago. Friday night, she vomited about half of her dinner a little while after eating. Since then, she hasn't vomited, doesn't have a tender stomach, has pink gums, has an appetite, is drinking water, acting normal but has pooped very little or none at all. Today's Monday and she still hasn't had a normal bowel movement since Friday afternoon. We boarded her Thursday night. I've checked all the signed of bloat and none of them are there. Any ideas? Thank you
  7. Thanks for all the responses!! She wasn't prescribed either of those but it would make sense that any medicine can upset the stomach. And I had the thought that the stress of the neck pain, the stress of the recent heat, and she was boarded one night last week so maybe that all added to it. Maybe I just needed reassurance. Thank you all though!
  8. Hello all! Darla is 3 years old and has been with us for 8 months now. Sweetest girl ever. Over the long New England winter, she always went for a long walk after dinner and would go right out before bed. Since it got hot out, she's been stubborn about going for the long walks. About 3 weeks ago, she hurt her neck and the vet gave her an anti-inflammatory. After taking it for about a week, she was having really bad diarrhea and gurgling stomach noises so we stopped that and the vet gave us something for her stomach. Since then, she's been as stubborn as anything about going out and when I get her out, she only walks about 15 feet then plants her feet. Sometimes I can get her to go a little further Any ideas? The diarrhea hasn't completely gone away but it better than it was. Her appetite is normal and I would not say she's lethargic. Any input would help. Thanks!!!!
  9. Makes sense. Thanks for all the great advice!!
  10. Thanks for all the great responses. I don't live with my parents but do visit once every couple months. They're hit and miss. Sometimes they'll sniff each other and walk side by side around the block. It's only when my dog is laying down, which I guess is space aggression, but I just found it strange why she only does that to the older, more docile. Thanks for all the great responses. 11. My 3 year old greyhound Darla has been great since we got her 6 months ago. The biggest problem she's had is with my parents family dog. She's 16 and we've had her since she's a puppy. She's a lot smaller than Darla but Darla will show her teeth and growl at her whenever she walks by. My parents also have a small puppy and Darla tolerates the puppy way between than the older dog. Any ideas why this is and how to curb it? Thank you!!
  12. Thank you! I kinda figured as much. She's getting quirkier as time goes on haha
  13. First time posting but I've been reading for a while. Four months ago, I adopted my best friend! She's 3 years old and her name is Darla. She has been nothing but a dream so far. Lately, though, she's starting randomly tilting her head when I pet her head. She's had no problem balancing, walking straight, no change in appetite or energy. Anyone have any experience with this? Am I just being a worry wort? Thanks! -Nick
