  1. In our area, Mount Airy, MD, around February, several vets that have been established for years, offer specials for a month. Additionally, if you go to "Groupon" and sign up for your nearest city, Ours is Baltimore and Washington, DC. you may find vets offering specials in the spring also. So if your grey needs a dental, just call to see if they are well versed on greyhounds first. You may save a few bucks there. I know that the Country Vet in Mount Airy is one of the places that offer the discount. They have been around for many years. As my boy ages, I am not so prone to put him under. He is big, but extremely sensitive to being put under and is recovering from Chemo shots., So we are taking it easy with him as far as shots and dental.
  2. We put our kids out about 15 minutes before they eat to do their business. We feed them three times a day. After they eat and drink, they are not allowed to run for at least an hour. Than, they can go out and do their business againm play, etc. That works for us. If they have to go out after immediately eating, than it will only be on a leash. The bloat thing and full bellies always worried me with the big chested kids. So I try my best to avoid that. I do not give them large meals at one time. Works for us. Treats are in between the meals.
  3. http://www.thebibleandanimals.org/index.php/articles-catlist/2-will-animals-be-in-heaven My husband sent me the above link when we lost our San Tan Snuggles to GME. Four of our grey fur babies have moved on. We have no doubt that they will be there to greet us one day when we too go home, Our prayers are with you and Chase.
  4. would love to see a picture of your Sam Splint and Deer Skin on and off of your greyhound. Sounds so smart.
  5. Back I am. Surprise again, did not get clean margins after the surgery. The growth removed was very small and it was removed just a couple of days later. I am working with my vet in Mount Airy Animal Hospital and she and Dr. Couto have gone over Surprise's information and she will be starting the chemo shots with the sesame oil late on Friday, May 13, 2016. I am hopeful and excited. I am so grateful to everyone on greytalk and my special friend B, because without them we would not have learned all that we have and we would not have had the opportunity to to know about Dr. Couto, and http://greyhoundhealthinitiative.org/.
  6. I recently purchased Panacur to deworm my two greyhounds. I checked with the greyhound rescue in NJ and with my vet at the Hope Center in Rockville, MD. I have an email from them both that it is safe for my greyhounds. I was told by a previous vet a while back that when a dog is dewormed, that sometimes diarrhea is normal if not too bad. Hope that she is drinking plenty of fluids. Perhaps you should call your vet and let them know your concern, since she had diarrhea prior to taking Panacur. I have not had a chance however to do the deworming, but did just want to mention what the rescue group and my vet advised. Hope all is well.
  7. Capillarid ova are present. Morphology is compatible with Pearsonema (syn Capillaria) plica, which is a urinary tract parasite, but definitive identification is not possible with routine urinalysis. If fecal contamination is ruled out based on the method of sample collection and if definitive identification is desired, consider requesting test code 511 (Parasite Identification). Anyone ever hear of this, had this and if so, how it it treated? Was noted on my Surprises Lab Report
  8. There are so many things that we all would love to tell you and do for you, but I agree with the posts and advice given. You need to let him be at peace. He will always be with you because he is in your heart and will always be a part of your life. I have watched four of my six fur babies cross over the rainbow bride, but I have not forgotten one of them and never will. Each has given us special moments that will be with us forever. Likewise, you are special because you have more than given your all for each and everyone of yours. So sorry for what you are going through. Each time I say that I could not do it again, but than I go out and adopt another one. They are what make me smile. You will see him again. Their understanding of us, I believe is far more than we can comprehend. God Bless. Our prayers are with you all.
  9. hemangiopericytoma is back and Surprise is being operated on again this morning. The Hope Center in Rockville, MD will be attending the matter this time. Please pray for clean margins this time. We will learn of results by about Monday.
  10. My Surprise';s results a new Hemangiopericytoma. He is having it operated on to remove this morning. Afterward, we will know if the margins are clean or not. We pray they are.
  11. My Surprise does not have any HB Commander or Wigwam Wag in his lineage.Group Rooster and Hanks Cool Cat is where he comes from. He is seven years old. However he did develop Hemangiopericytoma. He is doing very good on his treatment. The stage 1 growth was removed from his leg and he is on medication to stop it from coming back. (my previous post on page 5) Update on Surprise: New hard 7 millimeter lump came up yesterday on his leg, getting it evaluated between tomorrow and the 26th of April. My new regular vet said that the European lines in the greyhounds have a lot less cancer than what is in the USA. Any one know more about that?
  12. Update on Surprise: Yesterday we found a 7 millimeter size hard lump on his leg just above where he had the previous growth removed. We check him every other day, so this came up very fast.Last night, Surprise started licking that leg. I called the Oncologist at the Hope Center and we have an appointment for him in the afternoon for her to take a look. I also noticed that on his ankle, on the same leg, that the bone appears to be sticking out a little more than the right front leg. He had an appointment for a full work up scheduled on the 26th of this month. Up until now he has been doing very good. We did notice that for the past couple of days, that he has been laying around a little more and playing less. Please say a prayer for our big boy that he will be fine and there is no problems for him. He is so sweet and friendly. This is a link to the video of him playing in the snow in February 2016, Just click the arrow on the video to see our big black and white Surprise play. He is now seven years old. http://s1040.photobucket.com/user/littlesix2010/library/
  13. I lost Heart Suite to Oseto in 2014. She was a descendant of HB Commander. I lost San Tan Snuggles to GME in 2015. She was a descendant of HB Commander and Wigwam Wag. I just adopted a new baby girl and she too is a descendant of HB Commander and Wigwam Wag. Now that I have seen this post, I will be watching her so very close. I also had another male greyhound called "i'm Just Stormy". He lived till he was almost 13. He did not have HB commander or Wigwam Wag in his lineage. I also had another girl, called Ec Flirt and she was my first greyhound and lived to 13. She did not have HB commander or Wigwam Wag in her lineage.
  14. I just read your story about Jake. What an amazing story. Jake is so lucky to have such a dedicated human. When one of ours is sick, it can be a very hard time for all. Glad to see that he is progressing. I had adopted a grey girl who broke her leg racing. We made ramps and rails for her through out and had a ramp for the SUV. She was not able to go on long walks afterwards, but that was okay. She would let me know when she was tired. We let her set the pace and she did good with it. The best to you and Jake. You have come so far so soon already. I used kirkland (Costco) pee pads over human pads on top of a shower curtain when she could not make it outside. It worked pretty good.
  15. Just want to say that we will pray for you and for River. It will be good for River to be home with his family once he gets comfortable. It makes all the difference to them and how they respond to treatments. River is so lucky to have you. I hope that you get to do the cool things with him on your list. What I think is most important is that River knows that you are there for him. God Bless you. I lost two of my girls in one year. It was so hard. The were both around 5.5 But God has blessed me once again with a new baby girl for my Surprise. He is so happy again to have a friend to run with. It makes such a difference.
  16. I went ahead and ordered this Oratene maintenance to see how it does.
  17. My Surprise had a difficult time bleeding and coming out of the anesthesia after a deep clean dental. He stayed at vets most of the day. He seems like such a strong guy at seven, but I was glad he was at the vets and not in the home afterward. Every grey is different in how they react.
  18. i brush my boy's teeth every other day on the average and he had a deep dental about 9 months ago, but he still gets stinky breath now and then. i would like to also know which gel is working so well for you and how is it with plaque? Interesting.
  19. I would take the greyhound directly to a neurologist, forget all the preliminary stuff. I have two different greyhounds who had movement issues. HeartSweet started having seizures and the doctor treated her for that without an xray or such. In four months, she began to limp and favor her right hind leg, so the vets partner took an xray. My baby girl had advanced bone cancer by that time, so we had to lay her to rest. My second girl, had lost her ability to walk within hours and we took her to our new vet and she was looked at for four days, staying overnight, and than saw a Neurologist at the Hope Center in Rockville, MD. As it turned out, they said that she had GME. She survived for 91 days on medications and treatments and seemed to improve, but the day she came home from her last visit, she seemed to have thrown a blood clot and passed at home very quickly. HeartSweet and Snuggles both were only a little over five years of age when they passed. The sooner the treatment, hopefully the better the outcome. My heart goes out to you and your girl and I will keep you in our prayers. Nothing can ever replace being owned and loved by a grey. My boy who is seven, is recovering from a tumor of a mixed nature removed from his front leg (stage 1) and is doing good. He will be on lifetime medications. All of this happened in 2014 and 2015.He sees an oncologist every three months now to check his blood count. What I learned from the preliminary examination done by Dr. Cuff, the neurologist was priceless. He also recommended my boy see the oncologist, after the regular vet removed the growth. The treatment the oncologist gave to my boy was a better option than what had been explained to me by the regular vet. Snuggles was unable to hold her urine for about 30 days after she got sick. So I kept a shower curtain on the floor, covered with the washable human bed pads (from Amazon) and covered that with the absorbent puppy pads I got at Costco for a good price. She was well trained and even being sick, would use the pads if she could not make it out. Thank you for sharing your experience and I am looking forward to hearing how things are going with your girl.
  20. Sounds like a great plan. She is a very fortunate greyhound to have you and your family. Please keep us all up to date on her progress. Very interesting about the sugar. I agree with you about the greyhound. There is nothing better than being owned by them. I hope to convince my husband to adopt another one soon. He is still having a hard time over loosing our last girl. Our boy surprise who turned seven yesterday could use a friend again. We are like you, in the fact that we have been owned by greyhounds since 1989. Two boys and three girls over the years.
  21. One of the products that I used on San Tan Snuggles while she was healing also came from Amazon. It is called Medline Skintegrity Wound Cleaner. It is also good for people. When I would change her tube sock, I would use this also to clean the area, Wrap it lightly with the white stretchy gauze and put on her footless tube sock described above. But wanting for this to scab over, I did not put on any thing like a petroleum product or Neosporin. I would watch the area and change the dressing only when necessary. If it were sticking a little, I would spray a little of the skintegrity on the gauze before removing it, so not to disturb the slowly growing scab. I was so pleased that between that, the sock and the antibiotic, that it healed nicely. Looking forward to hearing if they took out the plate yet and how she is doing. Prayers for you and your grey baby.
  22. Thank you .Please keep me posted. I have several friends that have fur friends that are interested. From what I have read, the treatments are not long lasting (more like three months) Has your vet suggested a time period for this? how long was Sweeps session? I read that they usually only last about 15 minutes.
  23. "Pulsed electromagnetic fields have been shown to reduce postoperative pain, inflammation, and narcotic requirements after breast reduction and augmentation surgical procedures. This study examined whether pulsed electromagnetic field therapy could produce similar results in patients undergoing unilateral transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flap breast reconstruction, a significantly more complex and painful surgical procedure." as quoted from the web site. The product I believe if more about the electromagnetic fields, produced by a battery, not just magnetic fields that are standing alone. I have heard a lot about the copper and also the magnetic issues, but what I am wondering about is the electromagnetic fields produced by the battery contraption. I heard that one must buy the more expensive one, not one of the low batteries for this product to produce faster healing. I apologize for not being more clear on the question and appreciate all of the wonderful comments that give me more insight on these matters. On YouTube there are some videos on the subject. But I was wondering if anyone has experimented using this on greyhounds and what the result may have been? One of the videos shows woman talking about improvement on their pets. PEMF THERAPY DEVICES. Some of the devices seem to also be hooked up where they are plugged into the wall socket, not with portable batteries.
