  1. Moonie-I commend you for doing everything you can do-hope this will all work out for you and your pup! Hugs Barb
  2. You did speak to e-vet who said it didn't seem like an emergency. The shivering and panting bothers me a long with the vomiting. Panting and shivering usually is a sign of distress. Hope Sam feels better soon!!!!
  3. Hi ethanboston Antibiotics often do cause diarrhea. Boiling beef, chicken or turkey, draining the fat and mixing with rice is helpful. There isn't enough nutrition to do that for more than a few days however. I and sure you will get many responses but I have always added green tripe in situations like that. It has natural probiotics and enzymes. Not the kind from a supermarket but sold in high end pet food supply stores. You could try probiotics for dogs too to see if it helps but use less than it states to start with. Do you feed kibble? If yes, I would mix boiled meat and rice in the kibble and slowly decrease according to how your pups stool is. Keep us posted and hope it passes soon!
  4. Who knows, it could be from her active stay at the kennel and as ppl mentioned eating the extra kibble. Charlie always ate well, was in the hospital in Feb 2x and had an operation 1st week in March. He had dropped a lot of weight and ever since has been a pig! I caught him eating the rest of his sisters food the other day and he NEVER did that! He never went to her bowl. He has put on some of the weight he lost but is at a good weight now. Keep us informed on Ruby but thankfully it doesn't seem like anything to worry about. Just keep an eye on her as I know you will.
  5. So sorry for your loss. The toughest part of loving our dogs. Run free beautiful Deacon be at peace.
  6. Thanks Rachel-just got your free copy. Doubt i'd ever trust Charlie off leash but the training still would be fun and helpful. Keep his mind active. I will let you know how we do!
  7. ice cream sounds like a good remedy. Fell better soon Dood!
  8. Congrats on beautiful Ronan. I bet he will learn quickly how to get his other half up on the bed
  9. Ain't that the truth Tracy! :-) Don't think I ever told you but I call him Charlie man at times amongst other names.
  10. Thanks Greytpups! I almost posted last night because I was on alert mode yet again! In the afternoon Charlie was lethargic. Not like him at all. When my husband came home he usually picks up a toy and runs around but he just lay there on the couch. Also I noticed the area on his chest which had the tube in it was moist with fluid/blood. All the other suture areas are closed and healed well. I immediately called Tufts Grafton and the surgeon who did the laparoscopy was there and kindly called me back. He told me not to worry but if he didn't eat perhaps I should take him to the e vet. Charlie did eat and is back to himself although he has taken another decade off my life :-) I will take him to the cardiologist ASAP waiting for a call this morning. Dr McCarthy said that is what needs to be looked at now and that the effusion should not happen again. I'm so very tired. At least Charlie is fine now and no emergency visit. I was hoping to wait until April for this apt but looks like I need it sooner. It is frustrating because they did hear an irregular heartbeat initially but don't know why and they said it has nothing to do with the pericardial effusion. Seems like it would to me as he had been in cardiac tamponade but then I am no vet. UGH I just want this figured out. ps I think I am just on high alert at this point when he is off
  11. My almost 13 yr old can't control her poops either. I just deal with it because she has no idea when it is coming. Luckily they aren't soft. I have pee pads under the blankets on her bed. She does wear a doggie diaper, which she doesn't mind, when I go out because she will sometimes pee when she is sleeping. My gf takes care of her elderly aunt who has the sme problem. I'd rather be dealing with this. She isn't in pain and is sometimes still very playful.
  12. I am sorry Matawan had to experience this. Perhaps unnecessarily. You have good advice here and also Dr Couto may be able to confirm? Of course he'd only have a picture to go by but considering the chemo treatment he may be able to.
  13. It is very much worth it and you never get used to the smell My dogs get a little tripe everyday. They have both been on antibiotics for one reason or another and I was told by the vet the meds could, they said would, cause diarrhea. I upped the tripe and no diarrhea! What will dh say though?
  14. I laughed too when I saw the title. My 5 yr old Greyhound does that @ night now. He gets excited when I put his collar on but then lays on his bed and wont move. I have the luxury of having a fenced in yard so he can go out there if he has to. Sorry, that doesn't help your dilemma at all. I suppose you have to remain tough in the morning and make her go do her thing. Is it still dark when you go out that early?
  15. Today (Sunday) is Charlies 3rd gotcha day and I am so happy to celebrate it as I didn't know a month and a half ago if he would be here. We grilled steak on the bbq even though it is unusually cold and windy still. They loved it, he and Rhea. just wanted to share that with you.
  16. My Charlie was healthy until he had an emergency. I had thought about getting pet insurance and now wish I had. I think it would have been about $45 a month. His case is unusual though and not common in Greyhounds. He had 2 emergency visits in Feb with a 2 night stay each time with 24/7 care and saw a cardiologist. Then he had his surgery 1st week in March to correct his problem-pericardial effusion. I am happy to say he is doing GREYT! All told it was $6000.00 for all the care and surgery.
  17. So sorry for your loss, she is a shana punim
  18. I love you tracy tbhounds I am forever grateful or rather greytful to you XO
  19. YAY Casey you cutie! I'll be thinking of you!
  20. I should try that for my German Shepherd-she has EPI Exocrine pancreatic Insuffiency. Raw was the 1st food she ate and made a normal stool. She is on pancreas enzymes too. Maybe a little beet would be good. Thanks!
  21. Aw thanks for asking Tracy-2 weeks ago today he came home from surgery he had the day before. Hard to believe! He is doing GREYT! Still have to make an appt with the cardiologist for the irregular heart beat they noticed but I will wait until April to take him. He needs a break fro doctors :-) Although they were all fantastic. He can do whatever he wants now, run, rough house lol he doesn't rough house but those were restrictions.
  22. Dogaware.com has a recipe for home made diets. A lot of other good articles too. I never would have thought about beets and radishes Greysmom, i'm sure they are full of nutrients however
  23. could be the shadow of the new chair at night?
