  1. They will all be missed and loved by those they owned.
  2. Welcome. So glad you joined us! Actually Taste is subjective but good taste is never! This is one of the most beautiful breeds in the world who has been revered and celebrated in art, literature and yes.....fashion. Think Erte and his famous Symphony in Black. The woman had 2 Greyhounds on a leash....not 2 Golden Retrievers or Chihuahuas (not that there's anything wrong with either) You have impeccable taste and an eye for beauty!
  3. I am sorry for the loss of one so beloved as Puma, but I am also happy that you found a new opportunity for happiness with another. Enjoy each day and the returning joy to look forward in the years to come with Bloke . Cheers to your future together. Zoesmommy
  4. Welcome, I look forward to hearing all about your Greyhound adoption adventure and hearing about all the wonderful things that happen when you decide to bring your new baby home! Zoesmommy
  5. What a handsome boy! They are both just too cut together! Congrats on having another wonderful dog and new friend for River.
  6. I am sorry for the loss of your friend although it was so long ago. I am touched that you still remember with that much fondness and love.
  7. I am sorry for your loss. I am sure he was magnificent. My condolences.
  8. A tribute to Petyr "rattie", "As humans we are showing great improvement as a species. Some of us are becoming more like our animals". Zoesmommy Remember fondly your little friend, the love you extended to him and the wondrous changes for the better he made in you! My condolences for your loss.
  9. Hoping for everything to be well and sending good thoughts your way.
  10. I will make a point of taking time to do this. I also have a neighbor across the street who goes to church. I will ask him to put in a prayer request at his church.
  11. Hi there, First off, I'm happy to hear you have some time off and an opportunity to enjoy getting away. Good for you! Enjoy it. In the 4 years I've had my Grey we took 2 vacations. I've been very, very lucky. I've never had to use a kennel. Do you have a friend with a mature college age son or daughter? In regards to Zoe (my Grey) we have a friend's daughter who is 19 and an extremely responsible and mature nursing student who will stay in our home as a "live in" while we are gone. Zoe likes her and the girl has learned all about Greys so we are fine with it. She is familiar with our dog's routine. We pay her better than average--but much cheaper than a kennel-- and she's all too happy to do it for the easiest money ever made, having a loving dog to play with, and staying in a "house all by herself" instead of an apartment! Plus she has the TV and stereo, and bathroom all to herself without having to share it with roommates....... and she can eat what she wants out of the fridge! It's also a "job/work experience" she can add to her resume and I will write a letter of reference for her! Of course mommy and daddy call and check in on the baby ! If our girl isn't available the one lady from our Greyhound adoption agency where we actually got Zoe from will watch her for us! She's only an hour away! She has 3 Greys of her own. It's like a major play holiday for Zoe. I'm lucky I've never had to use a kennel. I'm not sure how Zoe would do in one. Most likely we wouldn't take a vacation if we had to fly or we wouldn't be able to stay somewhere nice if the hotel wasn't "pet friendly". Neither my husband nor myself has family in the state.
  12. I am besides my self about the dog. I will make a point of posting it on my Quit Smoking topic I've been running! I know this is info everybody knows on GT. Just friendly reminders: Chocolate/caffeine is poisonous. Since Valentines day just passed, please keep track of candy you may leave out in a dish or candy/candy wrappers especially if you have toddlers or small children that like to walk about the house with this. Also, please review harmful plant list. I received a live Calla Lilly for Valentines Day. Spring is coming. For those who garden please check bulbs. I have an amaryllis I force indoors to bloom every year. That IS poison to dogs. Since I have a plant nibbler I have to keep it well out of reach. Check your harmful to dogs house plants list also. Thanks for the heads up about the nicotine! Again so sorry for the dog. That was tragic!
  13. Congrats on the baby boy! I know not a thing about Greyhound puppies either but would enjoy hearing all about them. You are the first person I know who has one. If you start a post on raising this puppy, I will be happy to follow and just listen. I can't add anything except Welcome to GT and how beautiful Cairo is
  14. One beautiful dog (Zoe), One nasty set of teeth.. Healthy otherwise and with no issues. I put minor and ongoing. Originally the teeth were cleaned and 4 extracted. This cured the problem---for awhile. Now the very yellow teeth and really red gums are creeping back. Right now this is minor. If left it will not be. I predict vet visits for dental cleanings real soon. This looks to be an ongoing practice; especially if I want to keep Zoe healthy. So yes, I guess my answer is minor health issue but ongoing.
  15. I'm so sorry about your girl Not a doctor but just had a "thought" Maybe it is a weird one. . Could the "shivering then panting" be kind of "similar" to what humans do when they run a fever? We get "chills" which makes us shiver and we want blankets and then we are hot. We try to bring our fevers down. She's shivering and wants a blanket. Then she's panting. Since dogs can't express "hot" except by panting is this maybe symptoms of running a fever and panting to "cool" herself? Black gums and abnormal poop definitely sounds "unusual" especially combined with the other symptoms you described. I would take her to the vet. I hope she's o.k.
  16. At times, I've actually used a baby wipe. They're gentle, a little moist, won't harm the eyes if you accidentally get it near them and they're also great for cleaning out the ears. Plus they just smell nice.
  17. tbhounds--Thank you. That didn't cross my mind. My Iggy didn't have the best teeth either but my Gordon Setter and Daschund did.
  18. Lunasmom, Feel bad for you and Luna. Don't have a whole lot to offer since I don't have a lot of "technical" knowledge. Just best wishes. It sounds like you have a good doctor. Only advice I have: Write down ALL the questions you "think" of no matter how trivial they may seem for the Vet. The answer may turn out to be very important! Also some vets are nice and will answer additional questions on the phone---others will make you pay to come in again for a "check up/consultation". I am thinking of you both though! Can those on GT please answer a serious question? Why is it the Grey's teeth are such a problem for the dogs and the owners? When you adopt the teeth are cleaned. You brush teeth and feed appropriately. You have them cleaned again. I had to have 4 of Zoe's extracted within 2 years! I brush..etc....they're still getting bad. No matter how well the teeth are cared for they seem to get bad quickly or just be "bad". Why is that? My self and other 1st time Grey owners are puzzled by this. Thanks to anyone who can "answer" the teeth question.
  19. Don't know what to say except that I am very happy that he is feeling better. Hugs to you both. Take care.
  20. I love the idea of sharing close space with pets but we do not allow ours on the furniture or bed. My answer was no. With very long legs and 72 pounds my grey is too big for this. I am already in enough competition for "space" on the couch and the bed. My husband is 6'6"! While I "love" dogs/animals close to me some people and guests may not. I don't think it fair to them and actually a little impolite of me to do this to somebody especially if they are a guest in my home or don't own pets. Those people who STILL complain about my grey, I am "polite" in letting them know it IS her house. We spoil the dog with beds/cushions in the living room and her crate is open. She comes and goes as she chooses. Our TV loft has a big puffy cushion for her by our couch. Our bedroom has a doggy posture-pedic for her at bed time. We slide that under our bed every morning when we all get up. Even our "office/computer room" has a cushion for her. When we all want to snuggle together we do so on the floor by her cushions. She loves this.
  21. Wanted to congratulate you on your beautiful boy . No expert. Just an idea. Since it is miserable and cold and the dog does seem to have separation anxiety that causes a "pooping" in the house issue have you thought about a "pee-pee" pad or a piece of artificial grass? I know the idea is to discourage this behavior BUT what if it was placed as close as possible to the door where Mr. Spock usually associates with "going outside" when he leaves your house to go to the bathroom as normal? Perhaps this would keep the "poop" off the dining room floor and on something you could clean up and let him "know" he still has to "go to the door"/"outside" to go potty. I don't know. Best idea I could come up with. What do others think? I also read that leaving the TV on a "mellow" channel or an easy listening channel on the radio was supposed to help with separation anxiety because it was "human voices" instead of silence in the house.
  22. I can only imagine how sad you are right now. My condolences. Please rest assured he is at peace now and will forever know how much you love him.
  23. I think I did this quote thing right and move that last sentence up. If not can somebody explain to me please how to do it properly? If it come out correctly above disregard this.
  24. Does anyone else have "extreme" heat/cold conditions for half or a large chunk of their year and how do they handle this issue? Zoe will go out for potty breaks when it is in the 100's but runs back in quickly. Plus she has no desire to walk on scalding hot black top or in blazing sun. Can't say as I blame her---neither do I! We do active play sessions in the house two times a day. I try to interest her in 3. I also try to get her to run up and down the steps a few times in the house but since the house is 2 levels and warmer upstairs she doesn't want to come up until evenings. She rather lay on the tile downstairs. She is used to being active. She doesn't get "antsy" or destructive but just seems bored. It is like a kid on Summer vacation with nothing to do. I feel bad for her. I try to buy her new toys at this time and throw out the really old beaten ones and give her more chewies so she's more "mentally stimulated" and to keep her from gaining weight? Usually the same pound or two she loses every Fall/Winter . What do you guys do?
