  2. I have noticed that both of mine are less tolerant of the heat now that they are older ( 9 1/2 and 10 1/2).When it gets over 75 degrees they seem miserable and pant quite a bit, especially at the beginning of the summer months. We try to do walks early or late in the day when it is cooler, and when it's really hot and the ceiling fans aren't cutting it, I turn on the portable air conditioner in the bedroom so they gave a cool place to escape to.
  3. I use a small amount to brush Elliott and Lea's teeth. It has antibacterial properties, and since they love the way it tastes, they let me brush longer. It is great to cook with and doesn't impart a strong flavor to foods. I collect vintage cast iron and use coconut oil to season them - if treated well, cast iron is better than any nonstick pan.
  4. I am so sorry to hear of your sudden loss. Godspeed Carly.
  5. I am tearing up as I write this. It seems so sudden and unexpected. I will miss George. I loved reading his blog. I am so sorry for your loss.
  6. When we got our first grey, Elliott, we used the Kirkland chicken and rice. He did fine on it, but was super gassy, so we tried the Kirkland lamb and rice, which solved the gas problems. These days we rotate between Nature's Domain salmon and potato (from Costco) and Kirkland lamb and rice, and have recently tried Nature's Domain beef an potato with good results. Chicken doesn't make all hounds gassy, but if you notice a lot of gas, you might want to try a different protein source. We've tried higher end brands, but they actually seem too rich for our two and they end up having soft serve poos.
  7. I am very sorry for your loss. RIP Paul.
  8. Sending prayers and good thoughts for Duke.
  9. We usually feed the ND salmon or the Kirkland lamb and rice. We bought a bag of the ND beef to try out and my two are doing fine so far. They've been on it for about a week.
  10. Nothing to add beyond the advice given to keep it clean. Bonnie is a beauty. She looks a lot like our Lea. What was her racing name?
  11. Lea has ears that are always up and they get filthy. I have to clean hers a couple of times a week. Elliott's ears fold over and seem to stay cleaner.
  12. Sending good thoughts for Greta. Hope it is nothing serious and resolves with rest.

  15. Elliott has given blood every three months for several years without a hitch but this last time he clotted and the flow became really slow so they just shaved the other side of his neck and took it from there without problems. I wonder if that is what happened with Mason?
  16. I am so very sorry for your loss. I loved reading about Seamie. He was a dear and precious boy. Godspeed Seamie
  17. Kim, I am just now reading this ... so glad Larry is doing better! Sending prayers for his continued improvement. Lea sends her love.
