  1. We were running errands after Molly's vet visit and as she was jumping in the car I hear the GSOD. I look at her and her wrist is swelling. She's putting some weight on it, but not much. I gave her Tramadol and I have a feing we're going back to the vet tomorrow.
  2. Fix my boy please. He will NOT leave me alone tonight; he's following me around everywhere, gets up when I get up, stood outside the bathroom when I showered, is demanding a ton of attention and is generally acting "off". I checked and can't find any marks, swelling, etc. We did just get back from visiting my parents but he's used to that (usually he sleeps after a trip). I can't figure out what his problem is. Do I need to be concerned? TIA!
  3. Bothy big alphas were also big markers. I do t know if it's a coincidence or not. We were visiting my parents and went for a walk; Mason peed twice and Molly peed at least 7 times. At the end I think all that was coming out was smell but she kept going. 😀 She's even figured out how to pee against a tree.
  4. Mason was doing that for awhile. No real reason...it's a dog thing, we don't understand. I said, "gross" and moved on. He only are certain dirt at the neighbor's. Apparently they have good tasting dirt. 😉
  5. I just got a foster in because she was trying to eat the cats at her other foster house. They called her cat tolerant, but she wasn't. It's not a good situation for anyone when a dog is placed in that kind of situation. Please don't feel bad or like a failure. It is what it is and it's the nature of these amazing sight hounds. Save your cats, your sanity and the hound and move him.
  6. Thanks for the replies. It confirms my thoughts that it's too hot. Per the vet they're not supposed to be around other dogs since they're both still under the weather recovering so no dog parks or dog stores. I thought a walk would work. We'll wait until later tonight or tomorrow when it won't get much over 70.
  7. How hot is too hot to walk the houndies? A real walk, not just 20 minutes around the block. Molly really needs a good walk and I'm trying to decide if it's too hot. It's low 80s but the sun is really shining. TIA, GreyhoundGirl and an Annoying Molly May
  8. I haven't read all the other responses but before doing huge, expsensive tests I would start with 2 quick and easy things: 1) fecal tests. Worms are SOOO common in Greys and even Grey savvy vets don't immediately test for it because it's not on their immediate radar. 2) Have the vet take his temp. Mason was just a little "off". Coughing and not eating (and my boy is a chow hound) and he had a low grade fever. 3 doses of antibiotics and he's back to his old self with a vengeance. I wouldn't look for the zebra in the room until you've eliminated some obvious culprits. Good luck. I hope your furbaby feels better soon.
  9. Everytime my dogs have stopped eating something has been wrong, from a minor flu bug to a major issue.
  10. Molly and Mason have both been coughing (not deep hacking kennel coughs) for a few weeks. Molly's been fine otherwise but Mason's been a little off his feed and just "off". I've been debating taking him in. I just found out it was time for his shots so I mentioned it to the vet. She took his temp and low and behold...low grade fever (102.7). Molly was in for nail trim so she checked Molly too..no temp. Proof that germs aren't brave enough to attack her. Plus, Molly hasn't been off her feed, lethargic, etc. In fact, she's had more energy. So, the vet decided Mason has the doggie version of the flu. Who knew dogs could get that?????? Anyway, he's on antibiotics since he's clearly fighting something. No meet and greets and no canine guests (I was going to take a Grey for a few days while he was on vacation) for 2 weeks so they don't pass it on or get worse. I know you don't normally treat a "flu" with antibiotics and she said normally a cough would work itself out in a few weeks but given the low grade temp and the fact that it had been 2 weeks it clearly wasn't working itself out on its own so... I'm so glad I said something and wasn't just being an "Anal Annie" dog mom. She did comment that everytime I take them in it's something. It made me feel better.
  11. I free feed and some days the dogs can't take their heads out of the bowls and some days they don't eat at all. I think it's like humans, personally some days I'm hungrier than others. As long as she's eating and not losing weight I wouldn't worry overmuch.
  12. Molly can eat anything but after trying a ton of different foods, including the really expensive, high end food, Iams green bag is the only thing Mason ca /will eat and have nice, solid poops. So, Iams green bag it is.
  13. Molly will walk forever, Mason's limit is a mile and he's done. While none of mine have resorted to "statueing" I have had one lay down in the grass and rest (yes, people stopped to see if he was ok) and Mason, all 93 lbs of him, has stopped, planted his feet and turned around. When he's done, he's really done. It's Greyhound Stubborn Syndrome and there's really no stopping it. It's why we love 'em.
  14. Ugh!! My only comment is that the Twin Terrors, who are fine at home, need to be muzzles when visiting my parents. Apparently being in a new situation causes some anxiety. Anyway, I forgot their muzzles and has to buy "regular" ones at PetCo. It took them about 5 minutes to get out of them and chew them. It was NOT a good visit. That was the weekend they killed 2 muzzles and a bunny (and that's not even counting what they did to the newspapers sitting in the dining room ). My point is that if you're looking for muzzles I HIGHLY recommend getting a muzzle that's made especially for Greyhounds.
  15. My friend and I walked her Retriever and my hounds together. The first time she brought her dog over they completely ignored each other.. the entire night. I think Greys get along with other dogs because they're used to being in a pack at the kennel when they raced. I know, that's a huge generalization but none of my Greys have ever had a problem with other dogs in their house or in general. I did realize when my friend's dog came over that my 2 are brats but that's totally different.
  16. I will add my foster boy NEEDED to be crated and so I would shove him in and then give him a treat. He did get to the point where he would go in on his own once he knew he would get a treat.
  17. My first boy Dart went in the kennel twice and then refused. I left him out and never had a problem. He neither needed nor wanted a kennel. Does she really need a kennel? Can you muzzle her or gate her someplace when you're gone? Or, can she be trusted to be out when you're gone?
  18. I agree about personality BUT I'd much rather have 2 boys than 2 girls.
  19. My Belle would regularly go 12+ hours if HRH (Her Royal Highness) didn't feel like getting out of bed to go potty. Once I hysterically called my great-aunt because it was snowing, she refused to go out and I had to go to work. Her response was, "She'll go when she has to." She held it all day and didn't rush to get off the couch when I got home either. L-A-Z-Y!!! It so depends on where it falls on their "If I feel like it meter" (as does everything else in their lives ).
  20. Poor thing. I hope all goes well. Sendig (((hugs)))) and kisses for a quick and easy recovery.
  21. Like I said, no problems last time and it is hot here so I think he was just dehydrated. I think we'll try one more time and see how it goes. I didn't go back with Molly (she doesn't need me and the rule is no one back there) and apparently she was a rock star. The receptionist went back and said Molly was just standing there soaking up the love and adoration. I'm assuming there were no issues with her blood or they would have told me.
  22. That's exactly what the vet suggested too. They have access to water all day. Maybe out walk wasn't such a great idea. Since he's afraid of men and last donation was a huge step forward for him and today was stressful I'm wondering if we should try again next time or let him sit out. I do go back with him which is calming for him.
  23. We went to give blood which we've done before and Mason had trouble. Aside from being a spook (they let me go back with him) his blood was so thick from the high RBC count it wasn't flowing. They ended stopping before they got what they needed. The vet wasn't worried. Has anyone heard if this?
  24. I did Fromm and while Molly and I really liked it Mason had terrible poops with it (in all fairness, Mason had terrible poops with EVERY high quality food I've tried). It has a great reputation and it was a good food. If it was just Molly I would have stuck with it. I will say, to this day, my favorite food has been Anamaet. Low output, great quality and I really like that it's a family food. But, Mason's poops.... It's Iam's green bag for us!
  25. My houndies are loving their femur bones. I put a bunch in the freezer and am keeping 2 in the fridge for them to work on. How long are the 2 in the fridge good for? TIA- GreyhoundGirl and her very happy Twin Terrors!
