  1. Thanks for all the replies! We went to the park and did another trail and he did a lot better today. I'm still planning on getting a harness as I feel if anything it will give me peace of mind!
  2. I would love to use a longer leash like a 10-12 foot one but he will not walk in front of me on the trails. He has to be right beside me which is sometimes hard because the trails can be narrow with some steep sides either going uphill or down into a creek bed maybe 15 ft down. It makes walking side by side quite interesting.
  3. So I have had Frostie since April 4th and he has been such a dream! He leaves the cats alone, no accidents in the house and he has graduated to being uncrated while my husband and I are at work. He walks well on a leash except when we go to the state park on trails. He isn't much of a puller but if we stop and I let him sniff he gets freaked out if I shuffle my feet in the leaves or dirt! He almost jumps straight up in the air like a cat would if startled. I was thinking of getting him a harness since I want to do more trails with him but I worry about him getting so startled that he could slip his collar. I'm also wondering if this might go away once he gains more trust with me and the new trails we are on. I was looking around online at "greyhound harnesses" like the freedom no pull and a spook harness from I believe Majestic Collars but I don't consider him a puller or a spook. So what would you all suggest?

  5. I'm feeding my guy 4Health Grain free white fish and potato and have had no problems here. I've only had him for about a month, we've had some squishy poos but no diarrhea. So far I like it and he seems to like it too.

  7. I just wanted to say that your hound is beautiful. I am also in the same boat as you and I have a ton of people telling me my grey is too skinny! I've only had him since April 4th and he is my first greyhound so I am learning everyday. I keep meaning to take a picture and post it here but I haven't got any good side views to post.
  8. Thanks for the heads up. I guess I will be ruling out Certifect......
  9. I was reading an older thread on here and a member called Bean_Scotch said this is what she was using. Well I tried to message her but it says she can't receive anymore messages. So I thought I would ask in a thread. I checked it out on www.bestvaluepetsupplies.com and was just wondering if anyone else has used this website and/or used the above meds for flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
  10. I have 2 kongs, a large and an x-large. So far there have been no problems with the peanut butter when it melts. I haven't tried yogurt yet.
  11. So when I leave for work at 930pm I always give Frostie a kong filled with various things. He is now starting to NOT want to go into his crate when it is time for me to leave. I don't make a big production out of it. I turn on the box fan, turn on the TV to a Classic Country channel, grab his kong out of the freezer, let him sniff it and get all excited and then off to the bedroom we go. He is starting to turn around and leave the bedroom and his kong. Iv'e been stuffing it with treats, kibble soaked in warm water or low sodium broth and then plugging the hole with peanut butter. When his is let out of his crate at 1130pm or 130am depending on what time my husband gets off work, Frostie usually brings his kong with him to finish it because he hasn't hardly touched it. I'm looking to fill his kong with some enticing, too good to ignore food. Today I'm trying some kibble, peanut butter, and come canned dog food with more peanut butter to seal the end. Honestly I would just like to not crate him, but we have only had him since April 4th and we are still learning from him. I am happy to say that last night we left his crate door open and just pet gated him in our bedroom and let him free roam the bedroom. We awoke this morning to absolutely nothing wrong or disturbed. He first slept on the floor by the closet but later that night he did go to his crate to sleep on his bed. If it wasn't for our 2 cats, I would probably try and leave him uncrated, but if something happened to one of our cats I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. He hasn't tried anything with the cats to make me think he would hurt one but.......... If no one was home and the cats got into one of their zoomie parties and were tearing throught the house I wonder if he would try to join in or no.

  15. I am so sorry, you are having to make this decision. I don't have an answer for you, but I feel for you. I had to make a decision like this at 17yrs old with a dog I had had since I was 5, I picked her out at the local humane society. She was my first dog ever and I was an only child, so she was my best friend all through childhood. I ended up having to let her go. My mom offered to go to the vet with me, but I said no, this was my responsibility. It was the longest 20 minute drive of my life. I just feel you will "know" when the time is right. She let me know. We sat outside on the porch and I cried and talked to her and she let me know. I know this isn't probably what you wanted hear but whatever you decide will NOT be the wrong choice.
  16. Welcome to Greytalk. Willow is such a cutie!
  17. I lost my cat booger suddenly in Dec. 2010 and I wasn't even home. I rescued him from a dumpster in Georgia when Iowa's in the army. I bottle fed him and everything. He was a big healthy cat of 10 years when he died. My husband said he came running out of the litter with our other cat chasing g him lime they always did. Booger ran to the door to look out, let out a huge weird meow, fell over and died. He called me to let me know, I was doing some training for the national guard and wasn't home. I was heart broken. He had been my buddy and was my longest relationship aside from family. I couldn't even look at his picture for the longest time. I'm sorry for your loss, it hurts when we lose our fur babies.

  19. Awww! He looks so happy and carefree! Why was he a bounce?
  20. How would you train your greyhound to sleep in until 9-10am, for people who work 2nd shift? That almost sounds like an impossible feat!!!
  21. Welcome! I have not been claimed by a grey yet but I've been lurching here for awhile. Both book are great. I got them both for my Nook and have read them. Im actually started reading them now a second time to read for enjoyment instead of for learning. Good luck to being claimed by a greyhound I can't wait to be!!!
  22. I'm from the wonderful world of Madison, Indiana.
