  1. For Christmas my mom got Wendell the Kong in the shape of a bone with a hole on each end. A pupperoni broken in half fits inside perfectly and Wendell loves it. It doesn't last as long as the regular Kong, but it keeps him busy for while when I need him out of my hair.
  2. I've only given them to Wendell twice, but both times he loved them and it went over without an issue!
  3. If you are in Danville you might want to think about taking your pup over to State College to be seen.
  4. If you're still worried you could try an obedience class. It's little exertion from the human, but it seemed to tire Wendell out pretty quickly. The mental stimulation was good for him and you can easily practice during the week.
  5. Do you have a crate? Maybe he prefers sleeping in a confined safe space?
  6. Wendell puts his paw out and puts it on your arm or leg if you are sitting. He normally does it when you stop petting him, but when we go to meet and greets or he is with my family people melt over this move!
  7. Yes, they did one when he was first diagnosed in January 2013 and then just did a second one about two weeks ago. His adrenal glands seem enlarged, but they were approximately the same size as each other. There was no indication of tumors on them.
  8. Hi folks: I'm going to post this onto the cushings group on Yahoo, but I wanted to ask here if anyone who had a cushinoid dog ever intentionally induced addisons disease. As some of you may know, Wendell was diagnosed with cushings about a year and a half ago and I have been struggling to find the right medicine for him. He was on Vetoryl for about six months and then switched to Lysodren because he wasn't responding. We even tried a round of treatment for diabetes insipidus just in case. He's now taking a Lysodren every day but is still symptomatic. He is constantly thirsty, still has accidents all the time, is missing most of his fur on his thighs, and still has a pot bellied look. Wendell's latest round of more extensive tests reveal that his other hormones are within the normal range but he is still not responding to the medication. His cortisol numbers look good as well. The vet thinks the next step may be to intentionally induce addisons. His recommendations are either another loading dose of Lysodren followed by an increased maintenance dose or hospitalization to fully induce addisons and then a steroid maintenance. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm not sure where to go or which is the best decision for us. I do not have insurance on Wendell so this has been a very expensive year for him and I do need to keep that in consideration. Wendell turns 8 on Wednesday. Thanks for your time. Kristine And, if it helps, I do trust we are getting good care. Wendell goes to Point Breeze Veterinary Clinic in Pittsburgh and sees an internal medicine vet at PVSEC just outside of the city.
  9. Thanks for the update. Glad to hear things went as well as possible!
  10. I'll be praying that Henry gets into surgery today and that it goes smoothly. Wendell has an appointment at PVSEC on Friday afternoon so maybe we'll run into you. Hang in there!
  11. Alicia, I'm so sorry to read this news. If there is anything that Wendell and I can do to be helpful please let me know! You'll both be in my prayers this week. Kristine
  12. Thanks for the advice! Took him to the vet this morning and he'll start a round of antibiotics today. If it isn't one thing it's another.
  13. Can anyone help me in identifying these dots that are on Wendell? I know the dark spots are his nipples and he has always had purpleish skin around his vein, but last night I noticed what appeared to be a blister or pimple almost. Today there are more and some of them have formed a ring where the skin is peeling. Wendell has Cushings and is now on a maintance dose of Lysodren three times a week. His skin is always thin and he bruises easily, but these are new.
