That is a too long list ob PITA problems at a time when you need a break. Ma and Auntie Ann passed a minivan wif the license plate: ADLTING. 16. Nate is my first dog with any kind of space/interaction issues. He's blind, which may be part of his need to protect his space. He's never bitten, but his snarl and lunge with teeth bared is a real attention getter. As others have said, I'm careful to avoid known issues--I don't pet or approach him when he's on his bed but call him to me instead. Fortunately, he is very food/treat motivated. We've settled into a comfortable, affectionate relationship as his humans learn to respect his needs and as he comes to trust and relax more. It's a slightly more formal relationship than those I've had with less complicated hounds but it is no less rewarding. Our rules are: Don't bother him in his bed. Call him to you for pets, leashing up, or going out. Don't try to take things from him--trade up with a nice treat. I can't do anything about the robot vacuum touching his toes. He tells her off regularly. For a creature who guards his own space zealously, he has absolutely no respect for anyone else's space.
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss. Take comfort in knowing that Max was enjoying his life, loving it, and loving his humans, right until the very end. Take comfort in the wonderful memories you build with him. Fare thee well, Max. There is a line from an old song that comforts me in loss and grief: True love shall never be broken.
  18. Miss Jan, hush! I eggsplained to Ma that those PBB cookies are toxic for humans, just like onioms are for houndies. I also mentioned that they are notoriously perishable and I should get lots ob 'em riteaway qwick so as knot to waste any due to spoilage. I do knot want her to know any different, OK?
  19. For the first time eber in my life I got mail! Ma brought in a package and I just ignored it. Those brown boxes are neber for me. Butt then Ma cut the brown paper and tape off and my elegant schnoz told me that there was somefing extremely wonderful in that tin! I pushed and shoved and nosed that tin until Ma opened it and gave me a Peanut Butter Cookie! Peanut butter is my favorite! This cookie was magically wonderful and chewy and spendiferous! Here I am chawing on it wif intense focus and delight! Ma, quit laffing at my "prune lips". I immediately went looking for more! Ma had 'em, ob course. She promised that they are all mine butt she's gonna dole 'em out. Thank you so much Miss Jan, Punkin, and AnnIE for sharing these marvelous treats wif me. I love them! Nate
