  3. Xena was a counter surfer when we 1st got her. I took 5 empty soda cans, put 6 or so pennies in each one, taped the opening (so the coins wouldn't fall out & be eaten), tied them together & stacked them pyramid style. I then tied the bait (in this case, a hot dog bun) on a longer string attached to the pyramid & set the bait close to the edge of the counter and walked away. She goes after the bait, which pulls the cans down & makes a loud, frightening racket. The dog associates this with the unwanted behavior, and not with you. We had to do this several times, but she (mostly) stays away from the counter now. Good luck! Cricket

  9. This! Also, once you have taught them to swim, teach them which end of the pool has the steps. I read somewhere that more dogs drown from exhaustion because they don't know where/how to get out. I had a pool when I lived in FL and was constantly reinforcing with the poodles (pre-greyhound days) which end of the pool had the steps. My golden retriever didn't have to be shown twice. Cricket

  15. Yes, we did have a good foster mom. So much so, that we asked for her to foster our second grey (Xena recognizes her, too - but doesn't go crazy like Mulligan does). And lucky for us - and them - she does in-home dogsitting! Thank you sobesmom (and all the foster mom & dads out there), for fostering. Your hard work is appreciated! Cricket
