  1. We did start her on a raw diet, but she would only eat it the first couple of days. She still threw up. I feed her a partial raw diet now, as it is just a guessing game on what she will eat that day. She loves her kibble, I think she likes the crunch. She gets a combo of kibble, raw and dehydrated. OOpppsss, she was on Prilosec for months, also Pepcid, not Zantac. No, she was scoped to see if she had this. Everything looks completely normal on scope, x-ray and ultrasound. We have fed her this way also (so hard) and she still vomited. She did go all day yesterday without vomiting. We have never been able to go more than 3 days though. I keep praying. The Internal Medicine doctor just said to try limiting foods, one protein at a time, and to avoid preservatives and coloring. She mentioned IBS, but was surprised that she has never had diarrhea.
  2. She has been to an Internal Medicine doctor, who suggested testing different foods to see if she had issues with them. The specialist is the one who did the barium swallow and the US. We have done only chicken for several weeks, then beef and lamb, all separate to see if she tolerates any of those better. Nothing changed. We did 6 weeks each. Her treats were the protein only. I have made sure that she is not getting any preservatives or artificial coloring too. Nothing has even slowed down the vomiting/regurgitation. She does both, with the bile in the mornings, and the regurgitation a few minutes after eating. Now we are letting her eat the raw diet (NW Naturals), the dehydrated chunks, and a grain free kibble. She loves the chicken breast and the kibble. The rest she usually turns her nose up at. She burps a lot too, but no farting. I thought maybe she was eating too fast, so we got a maze bowl to slow her down. It didn't help. She usually eats a few bites here and there, but never a normal size meal. I feel like she needs Tums or something, but they are not safe for dogs according to the vet. I read today that sourdough bread can help settle their tummies. I may try it soon.
  3. I have a 1 year old Poodle mix who has had issues with vomiting from day one. We have tried several different foods for sensitive tummies, raw food diet, and she is now on a combo of sensitive tummy grain free and raw. She has never been a good eater, so it is hit and miss what she will eat that day. The problem is, she vomits almost every day. It is undigested food that looks like it never made it to her tummy. Sometimes she will vomit first thing in the morning, and that is yellow bile liquid. This morning she woke me at 5 AM as she was vomiting on the bed, which is new. She has had multiple x-rays, an ultrasound and a camera down into her tummy. Nothing is wrong. She had a Barium swallow too. Labs are all normal. We have tried Pepcid and Zantac, and we also have a tummy med to keep her from vomiting in the car. The car sickness pill works in the car, but it zonks her out, so not something to be used daily. I have tried feeding her a mini meal right before bed, and no changes. I am wondering if there are any foods or OTC meds that I could give her at night to help settle her tummy, so that she feels like eating in the morning. She tends to not want food in the morning, and will either vomit the bile or vomit what she did eat. Our vet (2 different ones) has no idea what to do for her. She is lively and happy and bouncy. She weighs 12 lbs, which is 5-6 lbs less than litter mates. Any ideas you can think of ? She will not eat rice or noodles, which I thought might help.
  4. She just vomited once, after drinking a TON of water right after her dinner. We did labs work last week, so not sure what we would repeat ? She ate her dinner tonight with no issues.
  5. Would I use something like DES if it is just a issue every week or so ? I am sure she has doggie dementia. The vet told us over a year ago he was sure she had it. She is on a lower protein food because of her kidney issue. She had a culture done when the UA was done. All clear. I have been taking her out more, but she gets so angry and tries to run to her crate, as she hates going out lately unless there is a meal waiting. Today she hasn't eaten a thing, so she has not eaten and kept anything (except treats) down since Saturday evening. BUT......she only threw up yesterday, and is is very normal for her to skip meals. She has always done this. I called the vet and he said he doesn't feel another UA is in order, and just to watch her. He always reminds me she is getting "up there in years".
  6. Over the last month, Ruby has peed inside the house. Once while laying on her bed, twice on the only rug in the house (of course). We took her after she peed on her bed and had a UA checked, it was clear. Her labs all looked good, except for a slight elevation in her Creatinine. Not new for her. She peed today while I was nearby. She didn't go near the door or whine. She just turned 11 on Friday, and ever since we got her, she has peed first thing in the morning, around 2 PM, at 6 PM and at bedtime. Usually she won't even pee on a walk. Today after her dinner, she tanked up on a ton of water and then vomited all of her food up. I think it was because she drank so much so quickly, and the water was ice cold. It is 99 degrees here today, but she is in the house all day with AC. The rug is going to go when my husband gets home. Absolutely nothing new in our world. Nothing. No change in food, activity, playing, her walks, etc...... She was also checked for worms, and it was negative. Pooping has been normal. She does seem to have some confusion the last 6 months or so. She sometimes will stand and stare at you until you repeat "go potty" or "eat". Does anyone have any idea as to what the urination in the house might be from, or what to do for her ?
  7. Ruby has the beginning stages of kidney failure, and she will not touch the food they gave us no matter what. We decided after she starved herself for 3 days, that we were going to let her live comfortably, and when she no longer is, we know it's time. The reason you are seeing the spaciness is because the urea nitrogen is elevated I am guessing. Same thing happens with people, and dialysis clears that out, it builds again, repeat. Hugs and lots of sandwiches for your sweet guy
  8. Ruby eats Pro Pac Grain Free red bag from Amazon and the farting has stopped, and she will actually eat it. Every time we try something else, or steals her sisters food, the farts come back. Good luck with Lola
  9. How funny that a racing doggie loved to watch car races....that picture gave me a chuckle. Run on sweet boy. You are so loved
  10. I am so sorry Pam...............sending hugs
  11. Good idea, will try this if they stop the food we bought. Much easier than dealing with canned food.
  12. I tried to edit the above, but couldn't figure it out. I have been thinking about making dog food for both our girls, and our vet is against raw food for Jesse, as she did not grow well, although they can't find anything wrong. I know Ruby would love home cooked meals, as she is getting so very picky. A lot of weeks I get desperate and make her a chicken breast just so I know she ate something that week. The canned food she likes will only last a few days and then she will reject it.
  13. We are traveling for a week in our RV, and both our dogs decided to go on a hunger strike. Ruby was so anxiety riddled, and Jesse (our poodle mutt) is a very picky eater normally anyway. Yesterday, Day 3, we decided we better pull out all the stops and figure out what they would eat. Ruby had eaten nothing, Jesse about 6 pieces of kibble. We went to Petco and bought some canned food we knew Ruby likes, and bought Freshpet puppy roll for Jesse. 2 meals later, both pups are full and happy. Jesse LOVES the Freshpet and Ruby ate her canned food. Now I would like to know if anyone has an idea about how I can make homemade roll for them both ? It has the texture of a hotdog. I have made summer sausage with burger before, but it is crispy on the outside. Any ideas of what to use to make these ? They are both on doggie vitamins, so not worried about 100% nutrition, as it seems more important that they eat. Thanks for any ideas
  14. She is on fish oil and a joint supplement already. I will take her in as soon as we get home. I ended up giving her Tramadol last night, and within an hour she was asleep and we didn't hear a peep out of her all night. This morning she seems very relaxed and is sleeping, back to normal. We are out of state until next Sunday, but I will call tomorrow and schedule an appt. to ask about Gabapentin and Robaxin. She does have elevated creatinine, so I am not sure what effect that will have on treatment for her. I am guessing that she is in pain, much more than we knew. Thank you all for your replies
  15. Ruby has had weak legs on her hind end for a year or so, but the last few weeks we have noticed that she is trembling on all 4. Two days ago we took her on an RV trip, thinking she might enjoy the sunshine, and getting outside more often. Nope. She has been a huge anxiety ball who didn't eat or drink until tonight. She still gets up happily to go outside, but she won't lay down anywhere, so instead stands and shakes. It is so hard to watch. I can't find any tender spots along her spine, but she is struggling to get up and down. That part isn't new, but seems a bit worse. She is having trouble when squatting to pee too. Is there anything that I can do to make life easier for her ? Does it sound like pain ? Anything else I should be looking for ? I have some Tramadol and am tempted to try some. In the past we have tried everything the vets can think of for her anxiety with no relief. What do you think ?
  16. Totally agree with this. I give our Grey and our Poodle mix a late night snack every night. Our Grey doesn't really need it, as she can go a whole day with no food, but our little one will not eat in the mornings if I don't give her something, and she vomits yellow bile.
  17. RIP Sweet Allie. So happy to hear you were able to spend your final days surrounded by love.
  18. This is what I used with Ruby while trying to find a food she liked and didn't make her explode. I gave her a small scoop with both meals and she loved it. I still give it to her as a treat, but she hasn't had gas in ages. She is on ProPac grain free (red bag) that we get on Amazon. She loves it.
  19. She vomits up whole food, but I have seen the yellow bile a time or two. Her esophagus looked like it was full of air on the first X-ray, but normal on the second one. She vomits at all times of the day, not always after a meal. She also get horribly car sick, and throws up almost always in the car. The vet just told me I could use Dramamine for the car rides. Her kidney and liver functions were completely normal.
  20. Our 8 month old puppy has had vomiting issues off and on since we got her. Friday after eating a small portion of rice and boiled chicken(she vomited the day before), she threw up. It seems to make no difference what she has eaten, but after this time, we decided to take her to our regular vet. About 3 weeks prior, we took her to the ER vet for vomiting once, then not wanting to eat. They did 2 X-rays, checked a poop, kept her for 10 hours, but found nothing wrong. Our vet took blood work yesterday and called me today with results. He said she has a slight elevation in her globulin level, and also has high cholesterol. He said normal cholesterol is up to 345, she was 388. She barely weighs 11 lbs, and has never been a big eater. She vomits once or twice a week. We do not give her anything but puppy food, but we do have 2 different kinds right now, one for meals and one for treats. The vet approved both. She is a poodle mix, the runt of the litter, and her parents weigh 15 and 17 lbs, while she remains at 11. Any ideas as to what might be going on ? She is bouncy and happy and playful. She will take a "treat" any time, but never is gung ho about her food. He is going to talk to an internal medicine vet, but I am hoping to get a few ideas from my experts here at GT. Thank you
  21. Jesse's last x ray looked better and her food had passed down to where it should be. She ate at the ER vet and kept it down, so I got to bring my little munch home tonight. She is on Carafate to coat her tummy for 5 days, and they really have no idea what was going on, but think it was a small blockage that passed. Will be watching her closely the next few days, but she is cuddled up sound asleep in my bed. Goodnight all. Thank you
