Good Thoughts For Ruby Today Please
Busderpuddle replied to Busderpuddle's topic in Health and Medical discussion
Took Ruby to a new vet here in town, and I loved him. He checked her over head to tail, listened 4 different times for the heart murmur we were told she has and said she doesn't have it. He also looked at her teeth and said she does not need a dental any time soon. We were told she needed it ASAP and it was scheduled for later this month. He showed me all her teeth one by one and said they look great and she has very minimal tartar. He also is experienced with greyhounds, having trained with them for over 15 years. So.....onto her problem, he thinks she has a swollen and irritated throat. He gave us antibiotics for a week, and some hydrocodone cough syrup to use every 8 hours if needed. He is going to get her labs from the last vet because he is worried about the fact that she has borderline kidney issues. He didn't want to repeat blood work today because she had it in May. He said she should probably be on a low protein diet to make sure her kidneys do not get worse. The best part.............it was only $70 !!!!!! It is $129 to just walk in to my old vet, and the $70 included the Amoxicillin and the cough syrup. My last vet bill was $338. We are definitely switching vets. Thanks for the good wishes everyone -
Ruby has been acting weird for several days now and she is going in to the vet today at 1:00. She has been coughing/hacking and last night it went on all night. She has also been panting and I cannot figure out why. She is not hot, but I worry she is in pain. She is still eating well, so will see what the vet has to say today. She will be seeing a new one because her normal clinic is not open today. Please say a prayer, cross your fingers, etc... that it is nothing major. I just feel so uneasy about what they are going to say.

I Was Working Way Too Hard! Home-Cooked.
Busderpuddle replied to sobesmom's topic in Food and dietary discussion
Are you putting the whole egg in there or just the whites ? When it is cooked, do you mash it all up or has everything pretty much mushed itself all together ? What about the ground beef ? Are you breaking it up somewhere along the way ? Curious about her poo. Is it normal on this diet ? Are you giving any other supplements ? Sorry for all the questions but I want to write your recipe down. This sounds like a good thing to help get Ruby to eat, except I would substitute chicken because of her beef allergy. She also has mild kidney issues. Thanks for sharing ! -
I am so sorry

Concerned About Panting
Busderpuddle replied to Busderpuddle's topic in Health and Medical discussion
Ruby just turned 8 in July. She is not panting this morning, but she did pant when she was awake throughout the night. She acts fine, eating and peeing/pooping normally. I am just paranoid probably and I feel like the vet will look at me like I am nuts. She has had recent blood work that was all normal. Will just watch and see for now and if it continues, take her in, She is getting a dental the end of the month, but will cancel that if the panting continues just because I would be too afraid to have her go under. Thanks for the replies. -
Tonight for a few hours Ruby was panting while lying on her bed. She was not scared, this was not related to her anxiety issues, and there were no other symptoms. Our house was nice and cool, she ate her dinner fine and accepted treats, she had not been out for a walk or any running for about 6 hours. I found myself just staring at her tonight and trying to see if I could find any other symptoms. She did go visit my husband about 6 times tonight, which is a bit unusual, but her norm is about 2 times a night for a petting session. She looked to be struggling a bit when she would get up, but this is not new either, and she has been on a arthritis med for a few months. Is the panting a sign of pain ? That is my concern. She does not mind you touching her body in any location. What do you think ? I will gladly take her to the vet tomorrow if this sounds alarming. Right now she is sound asleep and is not breathing oddly.

How Long Does It Take Fresh Factors To Work
Busderpuddle replied to a topic in Health and Medical discussion
Where do you order these from and which one should I start with ? My girl has a hard time getting up and down and the vet says it is arthritis. The prescription he gave us seems to be doing nothing. -

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. Wishing you both a speedy recovery. -
I use Advantage Multi on Ruby and have for many years. She has never had any worms or other pests since we have had her and there has been no ill effects either. I just have to make sure I put it on her before she goes to bed (she sleeps in her crate) so that she doesn't roach and get it all rubbed off before it has time to soak in.

Another Trazadone Question

Clackamas is not too far and my husband actually works out of there. I will check into this vet. Thank you. -
Another Trazadone Question
Busderpuddle replied to Busderpuddle's topic in Health and Medical discussion
I will talk to the vet again about a neuro consult. We discussed it at the last visit, but he said there is not one nearby that he feels comfortable with. I am starting to feel like Ruby is just going to have some good and some bad days. Poor girl. We have tried Valium and Xanax with zero results. I have never heard of Ace, but it doesn't sound like anything I want to give her. Thanks for the info.
