  6. My Lulu is the only greyhound I've had with all of her ears! I have always been told that most of the time it's from when they were pups! One of the GUR's that I met, one of the dogs chomped a piece of another dogs ear through his muzzle, so I guess that happens a lot too.
  7. I have used mail order for my dogs and for myself without any problems at all!
  8. I'm so sorry, she was so very beautiful.
  9. The black lights work VERY VERY well in my experience! I'd sure give belly bands a try for the boys.
  10. My Sugar (greyhound) did the same thing about 2 days before we were leaving Ohio to move to Arizona. She lived through it and has no residual effects from it. She ate approx. 50-75 advil and about 20 tylenol. I gave her H202 to make her puke (peroxide)and she did throw up much of it. She began vomiting blood that night, and the Evet had me put her on prilosec. She was fine and we left for Arizona 2 days later. (we HAD to travel, most of our belongings were already gone!) She remained on the prilosec for about 2 weeks. Her lab values were up for a while, but normal 1 year later. I don't know why these dogs eat pills. My Lulu ate a bunch of thyroid pills once. But then there are those dogs who will eat poop, so obviously their taste is quite different than humans! Good luck to Bruce, I hope he makes a full and quick recovery.
  11. 1mg of benedryl for each pound of body weight. It might make the dog drowsy at first, but not all dogs get sleepy from it. My vet says you can dose them with benedryl every 6-8 hours. My dogs take more, but they worked up to a larger dose. Benedryl has never made my dogs drowsy, just more laid back.
  12. My boys have always been the real champs for not wetting in the house. My girls have always seemed to go more often than the boys. I have had no marking from my own boys, one male greyhound I was sitting for tried to mark my vacuum, but I caught him and he understood the NO and the trip outside. While crating might be needed in the beginning, I would think that over time, you could let the dog out of the crate into at least part of the house. And all dogs have the occasional accident of one sort or another. I had a sick dog last night who threw up several times. I can count the accidents my poodle has had on one hand, and on one finger that were his fault, but one night he got sick and he had diarrhea all over my bedroom. It cleans up, but it happens and you have to expect that it's going to happen eventually. Good luck!
  13. One of the most common side effects of tramadol in dogs is constipation. While the two (tramadol and immodium) are not specifically contraindicated, they both are metabolized in the liver and they both cause constipation. Immodium does not cross the blood brain barrier, (so no "high" feeling when you take them) but it binds to the same receptors in the intestines that other opiates do.
  14. I'm so very sorry. He was a very handsome boy.

I'm so very sorry. Maddison was such a beautiful gal.
  16. I don't think it's going to help to reprimand him if you don't catch him in the act, he doesn't remember what he did an hour ago or 10 minutes ago. Greyhounds and most other dogs seem to know when they don't have their usual supervision and that's when they get into troubles. I had a dog who routinely ate the last 10 pages or so out of any book he could get a hold of. My fault, I should have kept my book away from his reach. And that same dog ate two of my coach purses, same person's fault, mine. I guess, if I were you, I would dog proof my house, put up the good books, and tell DH to put his grilling stuff away etc. I learned to keep books in my drawer or up on the top of the shelves. I learned to put my purse in a drawer in the kitchen rather than laying it down on the table or couch. The dog who ate all my books and purses went to the bridge almost two years ago, if I could get him back, I'd feed him every book I have and let him chew on every leather purse I own. Had a foster dog who once ate the corner off my very expensive and brand new coffee table. My fault, I was 3 feet away and never heard him! Do you have a fenced in yard? See if he'll chase a ball or frisbe or anything in the yard, helps to wear them out. I sure hope you are feeling better real soon, I do understand about your pain, and you should probably ask for better drugs!!
  17. Oh no, I am soooo sorry. But how lucky were you to have Larry in your life and he to have you in his life. Give him lots of kisses and hugs from all of us.
  18. I'm so glad that she had a good check up and so glad that she's doing sooooo well.
  19. Prayers for Deeni being sent up right now.

    Flying Lynch

Flying Lynch 4/16/99 - 9/28/10 Age 11 Adopted by me: 6/30/01 Racing name: Flying Lynch Pet Name: Lynch and Mr. L Lynch was a long legged FAST racer in the fall of 2000 at the fall nationals and he was purchased at auction for a very large sum of money. In the spring of 2001, he had an accident on the track, in a night race, he failed to take the turn and ran straight into the rail. His racing kennel trainer thought maybe he had a detached retina due to the accident because he didn’t seem to see well after his accident. When he went to the specialist, he was diagnosed with PRA and within about 2 weeks, he was neutered, teeth cleaned and was on his way to me! I’ll always be grateful to Donna Strawbridge Weeks for bring him to me on her day off, I met her in Indianapolis. (I lived in Cincinnati then) Lynch was a big boy, tall and lean and semi spooky. He didn’t want to come out of his cage much in the beginning and finally I had to insist that he stay out for a bit every day, and longer every day! By the time he was with me for a year, he was totally blind. But he was a fast learner and had mastered some basic commands that would stay with him for the 9 years he spent with me. Lynch was loving and sweet and I never once heard him bark I don’t think! He was stoic and easy going and when he occasionally stepped on someone he always looked startled. He ate well and got along with most everyone. His seeing eye dog was Frasier, and then when Frasier left, it was Phantom and when Phantom left, he depended mostly on me. The girls always seemed to give him a little grief, snarking at him when he got too close and they thought he was going to step on them. He loved to have his ears rubbed and hated to have his toenails trimmed in his later years. One of the things that never bothered Lynch was storms, he’d go out and do his business in the worst rain and thunder, not a problem! Until this last month, he always slept on the floor at the foot of my bed, ALWAYS. The last month he’s had a limp in his right leg and the past 2 days he was unable to squat to poop without falling. It was time for Lynch to leave me, and my heart is forever missing a piece that he carried away with him. My big beautiful cow dog is gone and I miss him terribly. Dogs' lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and for the mistakes we make because of those illusions." Dean Koontz, The Darkest Evening of The Year (Chapter 59, p.408) A recent pic of Lynch Lynch when he first came home! A blind Lynch running in the snow! Fearless he was! (back in Ohio!) Lynch here, about a year or so ago! And one more of when I first got him!
  21. I'm very sorry. Life just isn't fair. Godspeed Spike.
