  1. How very tragic, I'm so sorry she's gone.
  2. What a handsome devil he was! I, too, love the picture of him in the pot. I'm sorry he's gone and for your loss.

    Lucky Tony

God Speed Tony, you were such a good and gentle boy.

    Rosies Dot

I don't even know what to say. God Speed Dot.
  5. I'm so very sorry for your loss.
  6. I have had 3 hounds who will not get up on a bed or a chair or a couch, just wouldn't do it, even if I put them up on the bed or couch! The rest of em love/loved the beds and couches! I have no idea why some wouldn't get up, not a clue!
  7. I wouldn't no matter if I signed a contract or not, my hounds don't have good recall. And I'd be very nervous and wouldn't enjoy a walk with them loose. But my poodle was good with recall and highly obedience trained and I never let him off leash either! I have met people who let their greyhounds off lead very successfully, I have no idea if they signed a contract or not.
  8. I'm so sorry Diane.
  9. Citronella barking collar? I used it on my dogs with good success, my SA dog was much better with the collar, it doesn't hurt them and they don't like the spray in their faces. Also, I use benedryl to help Lulu when I am going to be gone for the day, 100mgs and she's good for hours. My vet is fully aware of the dosage and approves... we started out with 50mg and went to 75mg and then 100mg. No side effect, the dog is NOT drowsy, just laid back and doesn't seem to care if I'm gone. Like you, I cannot have her barking non stop for hours. She was on prozac for a while too, and that helped. I never tried the clomicalm for her.
  10. I have used a citronella collar with good results on several dogs, greyhounds and a poodle. It isn't harmful, but they don't much care for the spritz of citronella in their face area when they bark, so they learn not to bark. It's not terribly expensive. Though I have used both and prefer the one with that can either be put on auto or you can put it on manual and use a remote to stop the behavior you don't like, the auto spritz's when the dog barks. So if it's only outside, you wouldn't want to keep it on auto in the house if you like him to bark at the door when someone knocks...etc.
  11. My Lulu LOVES LOVES LOVES poop. I have kept her muzzled with a poop guard when outside for umpteen years, about 9 actually. STILL, on the occasion when she slides out the door without her muzzle, I have to chase her around the yard because the first thing she does is to grab some poop to eat. I tried everything you can possibly imagine, including mega hot sauce on the poop, and nothing works except the muzzle. She still tries to rub it off on the fence, or the house, or me, but she's worn it for so long that she usually waits for me to put it on her as we get to the door when they want to go out. Sugar used to eat poop, but rarely ever eats it now, occasionally carries a piece to me, kind of like she's giving me some kind of offering! The poop eating can not be good for their teeth either, greyhounds have enough dental problems without eating poop to make them worse.
  12. Magick unexpectedly died in a matter of 30 minutes this morning. I don't know if he had another seizure or what happened, he was a little panty and wobbly on his feet and then just laid down and died. He was only 12 years old. He's been with me since he was 12 weeks old. He was the one who slept with me on the bed, he was my boy. I'm not sure how to do this. I'm sobbing and there's not black nose nudging me to tell me it's ok. I am glad for him that it was very quick and he did not appear to suffer at all, just went to sleep with his head on his paw. I've had Magick since he was just a baby, and he's been by my side through thick and thin. Through taking care of my parents, the move 2000 miles to Arizona, through the loss of 4 of my greyhounds, through it all. I got here to Arizona with 7 dogs, I now have 2 greyhounds. My home is getting empty. Oh my boo, Mr. Boo, my woodle poodle, whatever shall I do without you by my side. My heart is, once again, broken.
  13. I'm sooo very sorry. So sorry. I had a seizure gh a few years ago, it's not easy, he died way too young too. Edited to add: You didn't do anything wrong. Nothing. When something starts to go wrong in the brain, sometimes we can control it and sometimes we can't, it's so frustrating. But you did NOTHING wrong. Please don't torture yourself.
  14. Poor baby, hope she's feeling better real soon! Benedryl, two of my dogs get 100mgs up to 3 times a day for SA, it's only given when I have to leave, and sometimes I have to go more than once a day. Vet is aware of this dose. With dogs, just like humans, benedryl affects some dogs more so than others, AND they do become accustomed to the dosage fairly quickly. My two don't really show the effect of 100mgs and never did, it doesn't knock them out at all. BUT it calms them and we avoid the SA side effects that way.

    Blue

Dang, not fair. I'm so very sorry. And you made me cry. Godspeed Blue.
  16. When I moved out here to the middle of the desert in Arizona, my choices were severely limited. We went to Pedigree and my dogs have all done VERY well on it. Coats are shiney, poops are firm, dogs love it and it's available anywhere I go. I feel that the best food for your dog is the one that keeps on weight, keeps em shiney, keeps their poops firm and that they have no issues with. For me it's pedigree. My dogs were on a very expensive food and didn't do as well as they do on pedigree. They did well on Diamond too, but it difficult to find, so we don't use that anymore.
  17. Some of my dogs hop right onto the scale and some don't, and I have no idea why one would and one won't! My spooky greyhound gal has no problem with it at all, so I don't think it's fear since she is terrified of anything that entails her to go out of her comfort area of home. My blind dog I had to lift on, but that's kind of understandable. My Poodle is comfortable in most any situation and he jumps up and stays until he's told to get down. Lulu gets up, but I had a hard time getting her to stand still. And Cali wasn't going to do it for anyone, no way no how, I had to lift her up too. I don't know, no rhyme nor reason that I can see.
  18. My Lynch (greyhound) never ever snapped at any dog or person and he was totally blind for many years. He got snapped at occasionally when he stepped on someone. He was very rarely startled, in fact I can't remember him being startled by me or the other dogs. Lynch was a sweet boy who was very laid back and had not an aggressive bone in his body. He went totally blind somewhere between his second birthday and his third birthday, he had PRA.
  19. I'm so very sorry for your loss. Godspeed Rainey.
  20. Godspeed Sheba, and bless Grandma's heart for loving her kitty that long!
  21. Do you have an enclosed area for him to go out in? Some greyhounds just can't seem to 'empty' out on walks. Also my dogs go outside the second they are done eating or they will have an accident in the house. I too use the washable incontinent pads for my dogs, they are older and it does keep the carpets cleaner. I also would check for UTI (urinary tract infection), they can happen quickly. Another thought is too clean really well and then feed him in that spot. Dogs don't like to go potty where they eat or sleep. But I would for sure take him to the vet and check for a UTI, often the peeing in the house may be the only symptom you see of your hound having a UTI.
  22. I have 2 poop eaters, they must either wear a muzzle with a stool guard or I must be out with them and watch them like a hawk. One of my girls was acting weird one day and she had a large muzzle on with the stool guard on the inside.... her bottom teeth we stuck on the stool cup and I had to take it off to get her teeth free. So I changed her to a small muzzle with the cup on the outside. Just one of those odd things that can happen, and I thought I'd mention it. Also, I have tried EVERYTHING from pills to supplements to pineapple and other stuff and my dogs don't care, they still love the poop. Heck, I even tried pouring hot hot hot sauce on it and it didn't stop them (had another poop eater who's been gone for about 5 or 6 years)even a little bit. I guess it's a bad habit or it tastes good to them. I feed good food and they are healthy. I'm pretty used to it, but still hate it when I forget the muzzles and they come in with poop breath!
