  1. What a beautiful girl she was! I'm so very sorry. Godspeed Honey.
  2. I use the washable pads, like the ones they use under human patients in the hospital. Works beautifully. I have 2 older girls and they can't always wait until I get home if I'm gone. Started off using them with my Cali and the other girls just seemed to take to them naturally when they needed them. They very rarely miss a pad and get the carpet. When they use them, I just toss them in the washer. I got mine on Ebay. Love em!
  3. Be aware that peroxide can cause lots of stomach issues. I suggest giving something like pepsid or zantac or prilosec after the dog vomits, and then once or twice a day for a couple of days after. I had to make my dog vomit once, used the half strength peroxide and 6 hours later she was vomiting blood. OTC prilosec fixed her, but it scared the heck out of me.
  4. If you really want to help this dog, why not call the person/group who now has her and offer to pay for the behaviorist to evaluate her and work with her so she can find her perfect home? I know it hurts, but I don't think your home with kids and lots of activity is the perfect home. She might do very well as an only dog with a couple of adults, let the behaviorist work with her and he can make his recommendations.
  5. Hey Pam, how you doing? I think about you often and send up some prayers. :)

  6. I never had troubles with feeding Iams, a bunch of my dogs ate it with gusto and had great stools. I changed from Iams to raw feeding and then canidae and now feed Pedigree without any problems what so ever. Lots of dog foods have been recalled, lots of human foods have been recalled. And I agree, you can get bad reviews on most anything you can find on the internet. If it works for you, don't worry about anyone else or their opinions.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
  10. My old vet checked them once a year. Things after that, like drawing blood for thyroid or other issues, or renewing a prescription, or getting a second rattlesnake shot, no office charge. This was my vet before she sold the practice, not so sure now that the new vet won't charge a full office call if you step foot into the office, seems like everything is doubled. I think what this does, especially in times like this when money is short, it makes people avoid the vet because they can't afford a full check up every time they need a booster or a blood test. I understand that a vet needs to make money, but I also understand that if you don't have it or you have a lot of dogs, you can't be paying 50$ every time you need a blood test etc. Heck, my dogs have been to the vet MANY MANY more times than I've been to the doctor in the last 15 years.
  11. Do you have a yard or do you have to walk her? I did not use coats on my dogs in Cincinnati when it was VERY cold. They had a yard and went out quickly and did their business and were quickly ready to come in. Even in sub zero temps, no coats. Now if I took them on a walk, and they HAD to be out for a prolonged time, then I'd put on a coat. Never had one freak out, had a few who tried to rub them off and made a mess out of them, and that's pretty much why I quit using them. Most dogs will be just fine for a quick potty break in the yard.
  12. I have 2 poop eaters currently. I had 2 others, but they've gone to the bridge. I've tried, pineapple juice, meat tenderizer (more than one brand) and the pills and even hot hot hot sauce. I tried them for prolonged periods of time. They did not work for any of my dogs. We use a kennel muzzle with a stool cup. No, that does not prevent them from rubbing the muzzle into the poop, but very little gets into the stool cup. I hear that duct tape works well too. The only way to prevent that is to be there whenever they are outside. Poop must be picked up almost as soon as they leave it on the ground. I do poop patrol 2x a day now, that's down from about 5x a day when I had more dogs. If this is a foster, and you have such negative feelings towards him, sounds like maybe it's time for him to go to a different foster home. That happens, sometimes certain dogs just don't jive with a family or a foster parent. Best maybe that he go somewhere where he is not alone all day. And for whatever it's worth, my dogs don't have to be bored to eat poop, it's just that some dogs love to eat it, doesn't matter what you do, they love the taste evidently, at least that's what every vet and trainer I've talked to said about it. I accept it. I have had the poop puke in the house, it's so lovely!!! BLECH! But I love my dogs and it is what it is, nothing I can do to change it, I can just prevent it the best I can. Looking at the picture of his muzzle, I can see why he's eating it. He can get it right in those big holes. Get a kennel muzzle with a stool guard, they work pretty well, much better than the one you are using I could imagine. Good luck.

  18. SLO toenails do bleed a lot. Sometimes I swear my house looked like a war zone, and I always worried that if they ever brought in one of those lights, the place would glow brighter than a Christmas tree! When Frasier's nails bled, it usually meant that one of them had fallen off. I often would wrap his foot long enough to get the bleeding to stop and an extra day or two to let the quick kind of shrivel up a bit and not be so tender. If a nail is hanging, sometimes the dog will pull it off themselves, sometimes either you or a vet will have to pull/cut if off. It's not a fun thing, but honestly, Frasier didn't act like it was a horrible big deal, but I know it had to cause some pain.
  19. Oh Nancy, I am so very sorry. Godspeed Ruby. I know how much you loved her and my heart hurts for you. Please pass my condolences on to John and your children as well.
  20. If I were faced with horrible winds and storms, I'd ace. I only use 5mg of ace for my 65 pound girl. She is able to walk and eat and if there's no noise she can go outside and potty. She has HORRIBLE thunder phobia. For the past several years I've used 100 mgs. of benedryl (yes, my vet is aware of that dosage and approves) and it's worked VERY well. But this year, the thunder had been relentless and horrible and I have had to give her 2 doses of Ace. I really prefer to use something lighter, but will use it when needed, and by golly, in my book a hurricane counts! Heck, if I were in a hurricane, I might give it to everyone including me, no wait, I'd take the xanax or valium or benedryl!!! J/K!
  21. I have one of those, her name is Sugar. Some days she talks and talks and talks and talks! It can drive one to drink. But most of the time it's not so bad and it's endearing. And believe me, you will know the difference, the body language will be different and the tone will be different. My Lulu has now decided in her old age to bark at me when she wants to go out, scares me half to death and now she's starting to "talk" to me... Oy!
