  1. Yes they did consider stress related temperature rise but considered it too high for that. I trust this vet - I have never known him to do unnecessary procedures.
  2. Been back to the vets. Due in for a bronchoalveolar lavage and chest x-ray tomorrow. Could be any of a number of things as he still has a raised temperature. Also slightly raised Eosinophils could mean allergic or parasite based. All his other bloods came back clear. Treated for lungworms as a precaution today as he is due that and all his vaccs when he is able. Heart and lungs sound good and no tracheal irritation cough. Not wanting to consider the other options at this stage.
  3. Hi all, my lurcher (7/8 greyhound) has always been a bit of an occasional cougher since we got him a year ago - he is approx 5 years old. He has started to cough at night when he moves around and more in the morning and sometimes in the day. Vet treated with antibiotics assuming kennel cough which it could well be. But despite not getting worse it isn't any better at all after 2 weeks. He is not ill at all. Back to the vets next week but was wondering about others experience of this ? My old greyhound girl at 12 has not come down with anything which is a relief but makes me wonder if it is something else as it is usually so easy to spread. They had a quick listern to his heart and all seemed fine there. I expect it is kennel cough and just taking a whiie to shift.
  4. No he was fed on standard greyhound food here but lived in kennels until he was 8 so I assume he was fed normally but who knows.
  5. Absolutely sure - bone loss through loss of calcium. Chatted to them twice about it. His whole rear end was riddled with osteoporosis and an accident waiting to happen. We didn't xray his front half but would assume that was the same. It is unusual so that's why I am asking on here.
  6. I have just lost my boy to severe osteoporosis. Has anyone else come across this before ? So unexpected and out of the blue. when the vet told me I was relieved at first that it wasn't cancer but the rest of the story was just as bad - severe break with many more to follow if he pulled through this one. So we had to let him go. He was only 9.
  7. No she's not a puller but you can cause a cough by touching the trachea area. Thankfully it hasn't got any worse and she seems happy in herself but is slow walking.
  8. I don't think any of the vets locally do x-rays without GA. What can be done if an enlarged heart is pressing on the trachea ? We are now thinking it may be kennel cough because our other girl coughed during the night but can't be sure because she does have a progressive heart murmur and is due to have her annual check up soon so coughing could be related to that for her. We'll see what the vet has to say when she finishes her antibiotics.
  9. Thanks - not connected to eating or drinking - no problems there at all at the moment. When she is lying down or getting up to move around. She isn't panting more than the others with exercise - I checked today and she was slow uphill but not panting although it wasn't overly warm here.
  10. My girl who is 15 has recently started to cough. Vet has checked her out and nothing obviously causing it - only a very slight heart murmur - lungs and heart sound good for her age. She is fine going for a walk but slowed up from usual which we didn't notice because our old boy couldn't walk quickly. She is sensitive around the neck / trachea area and will cough if touched there. Started off just occasionally but now is a couple of times a week at night and everyday several times indoors around the house. They have started her on antibiotics but she has no temperature and no runny nose or anything like that. She isn't a candidate for a GA for xray and would be too stressed without. Just wondering about others experiences in this area. Hoping that it will clear up after the meds but aware that all sorts of tumours could cause the symptoms too. Was sort of hoping it was a heart problem because with meds they can go on a good while before getting really ill. But the vet did say we could try heart meds but she wasn't convinced it would help. Also she has had lungworm meds.
  11. I feel for you both on this one. We had Levi in for x-rays and he was similar afterwards. Just wouldn't lie down - stood there until he was falling. I managed to scoop him up and put him down for a time but it lasted all afternoon, evening and apart from a couple of hours early and late , half the night too. Thankfully back to normal next day, so hold in there.
  12. Our worry is that it is a tumour pressing on his spine or brain.
  13. I'm beginning to think it might be an insect bite. He was lying on the step all afternoon. It seems slightly better today and he is still walking fine.
  14. It never rains but it pours. Just noticed this afternoon that ny other boy Dave has a swollen wrist - soft to touch so hopefully not bone cancer. No limping, no pain to touch. Has anyome had anything like this? thanks
  15. Myboy Levi, nearly 9 has had difficulty keeping the weight on for about a year. Recently it is almost impossible and he has lost a lot of weight. Blood work all clear and xrays. He has also started knuckling on both righ t feet and worn the nails down. Vet has him on tramadol and steroids. He had a bad reaction to the anaethetic for the xray - up all night with him. Any advice? We have decided against putting him out again because he is so stressed by it and is now vet / car phobic. His is a whiney dog at the best of times so it is so hard to work out if he is really in pain or just upset. either way it's not nice for him or us. Started on low dose steriods.
  16. The crate is currently downstairs but we are getting another for the bedroom. He doesn't actually avoid the other dogs when he is awake. He is not full greyhound so was probably not raced. Our other girl was said to be sleep aggressive but was fine once she felt safe in the home although she is a very slow waker. We plan to have a bed just for him plus the crate. It is totally out of character becasue he is sociable except when not fully awake - obviously something may have happened to him previously. I did feel he would settle into things but after the 2nd quite serious attack I have to be more proactive.
  17. I am reasonably sure it is because he is being touched - it never seems to happen otherwise but I will keep an eye out to see.
  18. Has anyone any experience of sleep aggression when a dog is roused from sleep by another dog moving close to it and attacks whilst still not properly awake? Our 8 year old rescue who we have had for 2 months has now attacked our dogs twice but it is only ever from sleep. He was from a pound before the rescue took him in so no history. In all other ways he is a brilliant greyhound and we all love him. We hope to be able to resolve this rather than put him back up for rehoming in a sinlge dog household. Night-time and while we are out is easy - we can crate him and he likes the crate. It is when we are in - 4 greyhounds spend a lot of their time sleeping - that it will be a problem. I am going to buy a new bed where only he is allowed to sleep and discourage him from sleeping anywhere else than here or the crate. Alison
