  1. Welcome from Ohio. So glad Gabby found her loving dad.
  2. Welcome!!!! May be your first......but probably not the last! We'd certainly enjoy seeing photos of your "big beautiful boy."
  3. The nose knows.,..,.....where the cookies are!!!!! Hope the sx goes well.
  4. Good thoughts coming.......hope the pain med will make his/your weekend tolerable.
  5. Not at all what we were hoping for...............I'm so very sorry.
  6. Your Sat night report had me in tears; it brought back memories of a nightmare night I spent at OSU with Desi, wondering if the next time I would see him, it would be to make "the decision." Cautiously optimistic is good, hang on to that. Many good thoughts/prayers coming for River & his family.
  7. Oh, the things we celebrate......pee and poo......in an upright position! Is he just a little less grumpy today?
  8. Criminy, that break makes my leg hurt just looking at it.......poor Jake. No wonder he's hurting & grumpy. Just remember, the first week is the absolute worst, it'll get better. I have no other suggestions for the potty issues, but whatever works, you'll deal because you love him. I do have a funny story about that "after surgery fluid issue" if you'd like a chuckle to brighten your day............A few years ago when Skeeter (40 lb beagle mix) was still alive, he had a dental (was 13 at the time, Desi/10). He was so out of it I had to carry him home, & like Jake, was so full of fluid & peeing so much it was astounding. That night - midnightish - Desi had a disaster - clot in a rear leg - had to take him to OhioState Emergency. What to do with Skeeter? Couldn't leave him, he was anxious as all get out & still getting rid of all that fluid. So I just took him with. Got to the emergency room, they came out with stretcher & got Desi, I followed, carrying Skeeter. That poor little boy was still so out of it & full of fluid that he peed down my front while I was carrying him in. I cannot imagine what those folks thought of me sitting in the waiting room crying my eyes out, reeking of dog pee. It wasn't funny then, but I laugh at that memory now. Best wishes that Jake improves quickly.
  9. Adding our best wishes........I'm thinking Jake will do well.....he seems like one of those "you can't keep a good man down" kinda guys.
  10. May the force be with Jake's surgeon...........no doubt in my mind that Jake can handle the healing. Thank goodness you'll have a chance to curse those PITA days.
  11. You must be worried sick..............White light, prayers, and all the good juju I can muster up. Hang in there, Jake.
  12. You're right, she is a beautiful girl. Sympathy to all of you she considered her family.
  13. IMHO it's a "retired" thing. Only in our home, it is myownself that wakes up at 3-4 am, tosses & turns, gets up, hits the bathroom, kitchen for a drink, back to bed, toss & turn a bit more, finally back to snooze for the rest of the night. It annoys Desi to no end. Edited to add..............I did try the Benedryl for a while, was no help whatsoever. So, if anyone has any wonderful suggestions for humans waking up in the middle of the night, Desi & I would be eternally grateful.
  14. My 2 cents worth..........Desi & I both tried Durlactin several years ago.........no improvement in either of us whatsoever. My personal opinion is that different products work better/worse in each person/hound. You just have to experiment & find what works best for Leia. I finally worked out a good joint supplement & herbal for inflammation helps me most........but none of that has worked for Des. He takes carprofen (generic Rimadyl) and Gabapentin and an occasional Tramadol. At 13-1/2, his bloodwork is still fine.
  15. Happy Trails, Heisman. You will make heaven an even better place. My sincere condolences to all those who are missing you.
  16. This, absolutely. When Desi had to spend a week in hospital to rehab from a big clot, I bought him a crib mattress with his favorite blankies on top. That was acceptable.
  17. My big boy doesn't lift a leg either. He does what they tell me is called the "stallion stretch" and baby wipes are my best freinds.
  18. Welcome & congrats.............but I'm confused. "he sure is a big one" "he's such a cute little guy" Cute, absolutely; but is he "big" or "little"??????
  19. Desi doesn't much care to be out & about either. He likes attention from people, but he will not settle anywhere but home. Meet & Greet? Will NOT lay down....just stand there & pant til his legs tremble. Greyhound event? Just stands & watches......till his legs tremble. I'm pretty reclusive myself, so I guess home is where we belong & where we're happiest.
  20. Wowzers......she's a beauty. And so petite. And so pretty. And those eyes. Somebody, somewhere is gonna spoil that girl rotten. Wish it could be me.
  21. Good thoughts for Violet. Hoping when you get home later, everything is hunkeydorey.
  22. Could be nothing more than a little overexertion. I feel exactly the same way when I go out to garden, and my mind forgets I'm 66 not 26. My legs shake and my hands cramp. I'm miserable for a day, and then I get over it. Getting old is not for sissies.
  23. No way...... May Percy enjoy his spoiling to the utmost, and that things are not as bleak as they seem at the moment.
  24. S-C-A-R-Y!!!!! Hope you find answers & a resolution sooner rather than later. Best wishes to Percy.
  25. Desi came to me at 7....our first walk together I could tell he hurt somewhere. xrays from stem to stern, nothing remarkable, probably tendonitis doc says. So we put him on carprofen twice a day. That held him til he was 10. More xrays, nothing remarkable except some stenosis in lower spine. Added Gabapentin. He's now 13.4 & still gimpy, but holding. We add some Tramadol here & there on his worst days. We're lucky. Although he's been on pain meds for years, his blookwork has always been good. Best wishes Ryder's dental goes well.
