    I believe she's 9 years old. I give her lots of treats. Sometimes the owner lets me into her house so I can make sure she has fresh water and food. We did get the owner to switch foods (well, the other neighbor is buying it) and that's helping with her poop issues.

    I live part of the year in Sarasota, FL.  I have an elderly  neighbor with a greyhound. The neighbor has health problems and can't walk her dog, so me and another neighbor walk the greyhound, Sophie, twice a day. I walk her in the morning and the other neighbor does the afternoon walk. Sophie is on the thin side and we are not always sure she gets fed regularly. We (the other neighbor and I) do our best with Sophie, but we have to be careful. If we inquire too much, the neighbor gets defensive. We've heard from other neighbors that people have been barred from helping Sophie because they questioned the owner too much. So, we do the best we can for her. At some point, we are hoping the owner will decide that she can't care for Sophie and will give her to me. However, I'm not here for a few months out of the year. I would like to find an adoption group/contact that the other neighbor can notify if something happens to the owner and I'm not here. Suggestions?

    Please contact your adoption group to return this dog. It's my opinion that neither your dog nor your family will ever be relaxed around each other, feeding into a cycle of distrust. With a new baby on the way I do not think this is a case where you can start training her.

     

    The hospital will have to report and it's likely that animal control will pay a visit to your home. Have all vaccination records handy. They may allow you to home quarantine your dog. It would be better to get the dog immediately to your adoption group for it's own protection.

     

    A local family's greyhound barely bit a child visiting their home. Fortunately I had a good relationship with animal control. They were willing to let me transport the dog back to the adoption kennel. He ended up in a good home with no kids and a very experienced new owner.

     

    I agree. You're already overwhelmed and afraid. Talk to your group and return her.

    Thank you everyone! I will try some of these ideas. I personally would prefer to not have mats and runners everywhere in the house, but maybe if I can make it temporary I'll give it a try. I'll see if he will act differently with another grey in the house as well.

     

    He may have slipped and fallen while you weren't there, causing him to be afraid. They have really long legs and can really hurt themselves falling or doing the splits. I don't feel it's babying them to put rugs out, just to keep them safe. Think of it as childproofing. :)

    Is there an address we can send a card??? Or a group she would like a donation made to in her memory?

    There is someone working on setting something up on their site for donations, for a special project in her honor. I can let you know when that happens, or you could go ahead and donate noting her name, and it will go towards it once it's up and running. :)

    I don't think Stephanie posted much lately, but I wanted her friends who aren't on Facebook to know that she passed away Sunday night. She was mom to greyhounds, Brady, Maddi, Penny, Dexter, Jack and Cooper. She loved her dogs fiercely. She and her husband, Steve, recently had an amazing 12th birthday party for Maddi :beatheart

    Steve and all of her friends will miss her terribly. :brokenheart

     

    Aspiration Pneumonia

    My brother's doberman has this. Has anyone been through this before? He was hospitalized for six days and they now have him at home. They have him on oxygen and are giving him regular nebulizer treatments. The issue right now is breaking up the phlegm. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Also, he is super constipated, but at this point refused to eat anything but chicken. Is there a liquid stool softener that can be added to his water or something? Or any other remedies?

     

    This is quite the roller coaster for all of them. Some days are better than others, and usually after a good day, he will then have a really horrible day...

     

    Just trying to find things that will help him breathe easier, and help him cough up that phlegm.
