  1. I am so very sorry for your loss. Run free Jagger.
  2. Iams green bag minichunks chicken and rice here. Sheba ate it day in, day out for years along with canned and/or homemade food. She's gone now since December, but my little beagle mix rescue likes the Iams, too.
  3. So I'm in Spain and get an email from the former Melbourne, FL rescue organization founders. They have a returned 5-year-old female greyhound, Possum, which happens rarely now that racing is banned in Florida. I immediately forwarded the email to my dogsitter friend who is taking care of my house and rescued beagle along with her male hound mix. I also emailed the rescue lady to send the email to my friend in case she isn't on their mailing list. My friend lost two greyhounds recently, one last November and the other in May.( I wrote tributes to both dogs). She decided to try to adopt Possum and was accepted over one other application as they had two greyhounds and she now had none. Possum is a real sweetie and settled right in. I am so happy for my friend and Possum! Perhaps if I'd been home I might have been tempted to adopt Possum, but after Sheba's passing last December, I decided I need a smaller dog since I'm now 78. My little beagle Fiona is a very timid girl and still hasn't come out of her shell after adopting her in January. She, however, loves Possum, as she did my friend's other greyhound, so we will visit each other, plus I will keep Possum when my friend travels, and vice versa. It was meant to be....
  4. I am so very sorry for your loss, but she certainly lived to a ripe old age with your loving care.
  5. My Sheba really loved those C.E.T. dental chews, too. My little beagle mix rescue Fiona discovered she likes them, too, when she found one discarded by my friend's greyhound.
  6. I'm so very sorry for your loss and at such a young age.
  7. I am so very sorry for your loss. Run free Sweep.
  8. After losing her hound Averitt to cancer last November at almost age 13, my dogsitter friend lost her hound Voyage today at almost age 11, probably from liver cancer. Voyage was off her feed and collapsed on the way to the vet this morning. Averitt and Voyage were best buddies with my Sheba (passed 12/6/2021 at almost age 14), and I was to keep Voyage and hound mix Bruno for two weeks starting Sunday. Now I will just be keeping Bruno. I know Bruno will miss Voyage, but I'm hoping my little beagle rescue Fiona will be able to cheer him up. Averitt, Voyage, and Sheba will meet and romp again at the Rainbow Bridge.
  9. An update on the beagles: Sadly, I had to return one of the beagle girls April 28 after having had her since January 14. It just wasn't working out having two. They bonded to each other but not to me. I returned the girl that wouldn't let me get close to her ever. She was the most anxious, skittish, neurotic, stubborn one. The girl I'm keeping is shy and docile and still won't come to me, but she will let me get close to her and pet her. We sleep together at night. She shows some promise and I'm hoping she will come around over time. I am sad but relieved at the same time,
  10. I am so sorry for your loss. Run free Thorpe.
  11. Sheba, usually once a year whether she needed it or not. She was brushed and Furminatored about twice a year because she really shed her coat a lot.
  12. I second the Adequan injections. They helped Sheba for about a year until, like you said, they stopped helping. Sadly, she passed at almost 14 years last December, but I'm sure the injections helped prolong her mobility and life.
  13. Yep, I wash dog bowls after every meal, too. I frequently wash the water bowls as well. Might upset some, but I often use the dog bowl as my dishwashing container for washing my own dinnerware.
  14. Let her sleep on her own bed in your room, period. Do not put her outside all alone at night to sleep, period. Return her if you can't do this, period.
  15. I am so verry sorry for your loss. Run free Thorpe.
  16. Yes, where are you located that the shelter kennels are full and fosters are needed? More difficult to foster or adopt in the U.S. with most of the racetracks closed.
  17. Does this picture make my nose look big? Happy birthday Logan!
  18. I am so very sorry for your loss. Run free Buffy.
  19. Sheba passed last December at almost 14 years old, but in all the 12 years I had her, she did not like to be leaned over, touched when on her bed, sat next to on the couch or bed, etc. I just went with it and let her be the one to come to me for petting. She had sleep startle, too, so was not allowed to sleep in the bed with me. All house guests learned the rules so there were no incidences.
  20. In keeping with my "greyhounds are just too big for me now" topic, the other day I ran into a new neighbor whom I hadn't met yet but heard they have two Great Danes. (I had four Great Danes in my earlier years but downsized to Greyhounds in 2008. I do so love the Danes to this day though.) I mentioned Sheba's December passing and asked her if her Danes like bully sticks as I had some left over from Sheba's chew stash. She said yes, so I took the bully sticks to their house later on. She opened the door and two very large Danes greeted me, one a merle and the other a blue (I had harlequins). Small living room, two very large dogs. There I was pinned to the wall by one 175-pounder leaning into me. Oh the fond memories of my Danes! Now I know where I can get my Dane "fix" without living with them Back to the beagles again. I went out today to run some errands and came back to a house turned somewhat topsy turvy. Living room rug and dog bed rearranged, bedroom dog bed and rugs rearranged, porch rug rearranged, rug tags chewed, and poop on the porch rug (nice and firm so easy to pick up). Guess these little ladies had quite some play time while momma was out! Wish I'd had a camera set up to catch it. .
  21. Thanks for asking. I have had them for 8 weeks now and very little change I'm afraid. Both are still quite wary of me, but one is coming out of her shell a tiny little bit. Neither will come close to me, but they both sleep on my bed with me, albeit as far from me as possible. Actually, they stay on my bed most of the time. I'm afraid Fiona will always be a spook, but Keera might evolve positively over time. They are on fluoxetine prescribed by the vet. At first were on a combo of gabapentin and fluoxetine but now off the gabapentin. They like to go outside into my fenced-in front yard and let me know when they want out, but they scurry past me as fast as they can to go out and in the front door. They are eating well, although I'm enabling Fiona by feeding her on my bed because she is afraid of my enclosed porch where the low feeding stands are. Keera will eat there but not Fiona. Fiona went 3 days without eating so I gave in and continue to feed her on my bed, sigh. A dental for both is scheduled for next week. Despite their neuroses, they're beginning to grow on me so I probably will keep them. I guess it's early days yet since who knows what they've been through their first 5-1/2 years--first abandoned in Louisiana roaming free, trapped by a Louisiana shelter, fostered there for a bit, transported to a beagle rescue group in Tampa and underwent heartworm treatment, fostered separately there, then delivered to me.
  22. Oh, I'm so happy for you and Tete! I have a couple adult beagle-mix spooks that I've had for 8 weeks and your updated post gives me hope. Even with their neuroses, mine growing on me and I'm not giving up. One is coming out of her shell a bit, but the other about the same since day one. They both sleep in my bed with me, so that's progress. I'm so happy for you and Tete!
