  1. I'll second that.... Lots of prayers.... Cancer SUXXXX!
  2. So glad this has a happy ending. I think of bloat daily with all the summer activities, so i appreciate you posting this. Chance is obsessed with food, but so far pretty good not counter surfing or getting into anything I may accidentally have left around. btw...your hounds are beautiful
  3. Chance is the best medicine!

  4. I got a dog so he could cuddle with me. Only time Chance has slept in his crate(his choice after I kicked him out of bed) is if he growled when I tried to move him. Only has happened 3x in almost a year. I also have a good boy...no chewing on "stuff" & can't really reach the counter. He sleeps all night with me till I'm ready to get up! I'm VERY lucky!!!
  5. About the lifetime maximum...I think i was thinking of the 10k annual maxium it had. ooops! Again...both are greyt! It's whatever works for you!
  6. Just throwing in my .... My brother's friend's pit had spots of fur fall out all over b/c he washed him with Pantene. It got really bad before it got better. Soooo....did you wash him/her with something that they're allergic to. I'm sure you covered this, but just wanted to throw it out there just in case. Good luck!
  7. After weighing the pros and cons I went with Trupanion...TODAY! I was on the fence between them and Embrace, and in the end, the price is right for the coverage. No they dont cover any well visits, but paying double per month to "cover" those well visits didn't sound like I was saving anything. Plus, there is no lifetime maxium...and the price doesn't go up as the dog ages! I have a $0 deductible...and they pay 90% of any accident/illness for life. $44.13 a month. Embrace for the policy i wanted was $74.14 a month for a $500 ded....and it has a annual 10k max. If he gets cancer, god forbid, that 10k will go very fast. I'm happy with my decision.... Call them...let them tell you why they are the 'best'.. Trupanion 1-800-569-7913 Embrace: 1-800-227-5098 Thx for posting this...i've been wanting to get the darn insurance since I got Chance last August!
  8. When you open the document there should be a "disc" looking icon at the top. If you drag your mouse across the icons, it should say "save" or something. Click on it and a box will open where you can name it as you wish. In the future, go into your documents and it should be there in alphabetical order. Hope that helps! My mom is like you, so I hear you on this . ========================================================================== To FEEMANDVM: Can't thank you enough for the info! Amazing and absolutely appreciated!!!!
  9. Greyt point about the leash....DUH!!! I will certainly check out that post...thank you.
  10. I thoroughly enjoyed that....I laughed so much b/c Chance is THE EXACT same way. Poop one is gorgeous....the rest...SS. I'm interested in what the expertise of GT will provide, but I'm guessing there may not be much b/c it sounds like you exhausted all good options. I'm doing the same thing...switching him over to TOTW (Taste of the Wild), however I'm not at 100% with TOTW. I'm still converting him from Whole Earth Farms. Have you finished transitioning?? If not, maybe give it more time. I am. Seriously...I can't stand the "you-seriously-think-I-can-attempt-to-pick-up-that" poop! I find those poops only happen on walks and the dog park b/c they are so happy and excited. Turnouts are decent poops most the time. Not all though, so that statement was probably pointless... I'll shut up now... good luck!
  11. I like this point. I actually have no worries w/ him in the huge dog park we have here, but i always know all the dogs, no matter how many AND their owners. Plus we walk around the 4 acres constantly. However with a dog beach you DON'T know how socialized they are, plus how responsible their owners are! Plus, many kids bring their dogs. ...plus I'm all too familiar with their choice to come or not ! Maybe i'll just bring that 30 ft training leash or something... No matter what, I dont think the risk is worth it either. I wish people that DO let them off leash at the beach would chime in! Contract or not, to each is own! I'm not judging, just SUPER curious!
  12. NOOO! I had NO idea this could be done! However, many are not just photos of them standing. These are frollicking in the ocean, and many are also far away pics. I know this is a touchy topic. I think I need to invest in photoshop!
  13. I'm just chiming in to 2nd this!!!! I LOVE coonhounds (after greys of course ) We need !! Oh..and
  14. Chad I 100% agree, but I always see all these pictures of the hounds off leash...and moreover on the beach. Of course the beach isnt fenced off...is that even possible?! I will check the adoption agreement, but I would assume 95% of the people on here have racing hounds, so I find it hard to believe that some would allow it and others wouldn't. But I'm not educated on anything about that. With that said, I'm not truly comfortable having my grey off leash but wanted to hear other's tips/techniques and why they ARE comfortable having them free at the beach. Just to add: this beach is not your typical "Jersey Shore" beach. Unless you've been here, do not assume they are all alike... This is a whole seperate section for ONLY dogs...in a very expensive section of Central Jersey. Like I said...just wondering how other's allow their dogs off leash.
  15. OOOHHHH...that is a fabulous idea! I'm going to get the lead tomorrow! Thx! Manasquan Dog Beach * if you go to the home page or whatever, just found a "Yappy Hour" in Asbury! You drink while the pooches play together in a fenced in area. Interesting!
  16. I live about 10 from a great dog beach here in Central Jersey. I'd LOVE to bring Chance there, but I am very nervous about the bad things that can happen b/c his recall is not 100% yet. I use a whistle to get him to come back and most the time it works. Operative word, 'most'....not ALL the time Of course, I will have him leashed while there for as long as it takes, but the bigger questions is: How long did it take you to teach recall to your grey? I've only had Chance for 9mos, so I plan on giving it another year to be sure. Also, any tips on teaching it besides a whistle? I ask b/c Chance hears me at the dog park, but won't listen and come till HE wants to. THX!
  17. I'm in tears replying. Knowing that you were a greyt mom to gorgeous Spencer and picturing him running like a puppy again, I hope will bring you solace. No words can make this day any easier. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
  18. YES .....I've been wanting to teach Chance this, but couldn't figure out how to get him to bow at least once to praise it lol! I'm totally using the stretch....if that doesn't work, i'll get a friend to help me with the ummmm...back end! Thx!
  19. This question will get debated over and over...and on here I'd say 75% will not bring their greyhound there.. I agree with their points, but these Greys, although retired, LOVE to run!!! At least Chance does ..all he needs is an hour or less. I've had some scrapes from the woods...minor scuffles with dogs, but most people at my dog park are responsible...and my dog park is strict w/ no toys, little dogs on THEIR side...etc. Personally, for me, the socialization Chance gets outweighs the "possible" negativity. I stay by Chance (when I can) to deflect bad situations with other dogs...as do the other owners. If you have a backyard and multiple dogs, then a dog park is probably not necessary. You also need to see how "responsible" the dog park and it's inhabitants are to make a solid decision. I LOVE my dog park...and Chance loves it even more ...so choice is made for me. Like I said, this is purely my opinion and I'm certainly no Greyhound expert. Good luck!
  20. Hi...I'm on the border of Ocean/Monmouth.... The vet I use is Dr. Cianci at Allenwood Animal Hospital. It's right off Rt. 34 by Manaquan/Pt. Pleasant area. I've used her since I've gotten Chance last August. Luckily I haven't seen her much, but she was recommended to me from a friend who personally knew her b/c she was the Vet Tech. She IS grey savvy.... Feel free to call and feel her out...ask questions. 732-749-1150 Good luck neighbor! Any chance you have a dog park pass?! Ocean County State Park on Rt.88 (Ocean Ave. ) in Lakewood is the best in the state! I'll meet you there!!
  21. Interesting you posted this b/c just two days ago i noticed these red patches on his groin area as well. He goes to the dogpark at least 5x a week, and there are a lot of woods, so I assume it's a scratch or bite. It has lessened over the past two days...basically keeping an eye on it. Thanks for posting....I'm gonna check Chance now and see how they look...maybe i'll post a pic. And like you said, my grey doesn't seem to notice/care either. I'm not worried.
  22. I'm so sorry Olive and you are going through this. My heart goes out to you both. I, myself, have Leukemia and I'm in tears thinking Olive may go through this. Leukemia was my 1st thought too. Bone Marrow Aspiration is the best way to rule it out...blood tests are 2nd to those. It's a quick procedure, I just hope they sedate Olive. I'm having my 5th this Thursday. MANY MANY prayers for you guys....you must be a mess
  23. I definitely will. ..thank you! He barely does it with food...tuna can in middle, plus plenty of water to make it yummy. With water, he just drinks too much at once. I stop him sometimes, especially at the dogpark, so he can catch his breath...SWALLOW ...then take some more. It's nice to hear other's hounds do it, but it still irks me b/c i feel like..."What if there is a blockage and I ignored it!" I wanted to check with you guys before emptying my pockets over nothing at the vet! ....maybe IT IS the Jersey water Thx GT
  24. These suggestions are greyt so far...thank you! Food isn't really a big problem ...it's the water! A big rock is a FABULOUS idea! Thank you krystolla! The food choking got really better when i added the tuna can...so i went to see what i could put in his drinking bow....the tupperware or bowl isn't cutting it. I like the links the other two posted...I will keep them in mind! thx!
