  1. Chance is suddenly in some pain since getting a bite from a lab yesterday. He was fine all morning but he wont let me touch it. So STUPIDLY I gave him about 200-250mg of Tylenol to ease the pain. I didnt know it is toxic.! Chance weighs about 68lbs and i gave it about an hour and a half ago. What do i do?
  2. Just want to wish Bravo well... hope it's nothing serious.
  3. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm returning the bag...it's still unopen. I didn't realize what was going on in China. I'm not a big "watch-the-news" fan...it's always depressing. BUT, I'm glad to know this. Thank you
  4. Chance does this too.. It bothers me as much as it probably bothers him. He only does it with water and then also randomly out of the blue sometimes. First off, I think he gets too much air in when he drinks. He also chokes on any of his stuffies that are furry. I'm trying to eliminate those. He also use to rip them open and grab and spit out the stuffing to get to the sqeaky. So no more squeakies with insides. Furthermore, I had xrays done of his throat and belly last year and they were clear. The vet said something about a stomach valve blah blah blah... he recommended meds which I'm not a fan of. it's not that severe anymore. Hope that helps... Good luck to Essie!
  5. So do you get the large ones? I don't like how you have to buy 2 or 3lbs of the stuff. It gets expensive and I don't even know if Chance will like them! Do they sell them anywhere else or in smaller amounts? Thx for your input..
  6. I feel like I've tried all the chews out there. He doesn't like bully sticks and I have lots of different flavors and plain rawhides and he could care less about them. The thing that last the longest are frozen marrow bones. Even chicken backs and such last minutes. I was curious if any one had any good rec's for less messy chews. It gets annoying putting down towels every time he eats frozen meat, plus the washing etc. I've tried some "Waggin' Tails" pork spirals and those are okay. He likes them sometimes. Also no on horse hooves...may try dried pig ears but they look difficult for them to handle in their paws. ps... While I have some eyes here.. is there no GT calendar this year?? Didn't see a link. Thanks in advance!
  7. I may be way off , but how about good ol' yogurt!? I give Chance some on his breakfast and he loves it. Started with whole milk plain but he had massive gas! He does well with low-fat and it has tons of probiotics! A lot cheaper too. Just my .... it's refundable haha.
  8. I only checked this b/c I have Trupanion, but I can't help you on this one. Why not just call and see what they say??
  9. Jennifer, I'm not one to reply too much on sad stories b/c they are just too painful. My grey is my first pet as well and I'm already dreading that terrible day and he's only five. I also can't imagine life without him. Please find solace in knowing what a wonderful life YOU gave him no matter if it was a few months or many years. This day is inevitable, but you did and will do all you can to keep him comfortable. Many prayers for you and Baker. I can't fathom how your coping... I'm so sorry.
  10. Good idea! I can also go up to NGAP (National Greyhound Adoption Program) in Philadelphia... it's about an hour or so drive. I go there for teeth cleaning, shots, etc. But I'll check to see if one is closer. Thanks everyone... just needed to make sure it was needed.
  11. Went to vet today to pick up Interceptor. I've been a knucklehead lately and about 4-6 mos have gone by since his last dose. I know.... So my vet goes on to tell me that I need a worm test thing done before I allow him to go on it again. He was dewormed about 6 or so times before I got him two years ago at GAA. I put him through it again when I got him just in case before I started the Interceptor. I just had a $400 bill from the e-vet last week (no worries, he's fine) and this stuff doesn't come cheap. Is it necessary to have a worm test done? If so, I'll do it.... but I wanted to ask you wise grey-owners and not totally rely on the money-hungry vet! Thanks!
  12. Not sure how accurate the info I got is, but my vet told me that all those online pet pharmacies and such DO NOT have to contain what's supposed to be on the box. Only your vet gets them and are guaranteed Frontline, etc. I've been using Frontline for two years now and only found 3 fleas on him. Knock on wood! With that said, my vet also MATCHES prices of said online pharmacies which is just as good. Ask your vet about it...
  13. I can't help you on the upper legs, but Chance had a bad spill and split some of his webbing couple months ago. He licked them a lot and I wanted to keep some neosporin on them during the first few days. Soooo .... I did the soap and water and then put the stuff and gauze on them.. then put baby socks on them and then his winter booties! At night the double layer of socks were enough b/c I did it right before we go to sleep, but during the day, booties were annoying but efficient! Just a thought... Good luck & thx everyone for all the salve tips. I found a feed store near me with the EMT gel.. yay eta: This feed store also sells TOTW $2 cheaper! Double yay!
  14. Yes people really are.. I'm a firm believer in karma... I can already envision him falling on his rump and not walking for a week.. btw... kudos to DIL
  15. I feed TOTW, but I had to stick with Pacific Stream. He gets runny on the other, richer varieties. I was hoping to vary it up. A few TOTW fans change the type of bag every time they get a new one and the pups do great. I wish I could do that, but nonetheless, Chance gobbles WHATEVER I put in front of him ! What I wanted to add was that if you're looking to same some major $$$, I'd listen to Jilly'sFullHouse: Check out Costco's food. I wish Chance did well on it b/c you're looking at getting around a 40lb bag for UNDER $30!!! It's rated over 100 on the 'food list' too.. So if you have one near by, I'd try it out. PLUS, if your pups don't do well on it, you can return it! Good luck! I spent over a year finding the 'right' food for Chance.
  16. I was thinking the same thing...not only for cushion but to keep the ointment on it. I do like him to lick it too though b/c there's healing properties in their saliva. Thanks for the dosage amount if I gave some baby aspirin. I dont plan on it this time, but it's good to know in the future. I know a lot of ppl hate dog parks, but I'm a big fan. I know the possible consequences (we're looking at them now! ) but the happiness on his face makes it worth it. I'm careful as I can be when I'm there... I know the ppl, dogs, etc. This particular park was where my bro lives.. I was thinking this too...glad you mentioned it! Thanks!
  17. Ahhh... good point. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but I'm always afraid b/c dogs don't show it. The cuts aren't that severe...there's just a few of them...esp in-between the toes, so I feel bad.
  18. Just saw this post now...and SOOOOO happy Deeni is okay! What amazing news and so glad she's home with her mama!
  19. Ok! Thanks... How much baby aspirin??
  20. My brother brought back my furkid with a few bumps and bruises from the dog park. He seems fine, has some cuts here and there, but he is limping a little from a torn pad and a cut inbetween the toes. Anyway, I know he will be fine, but I'd like to give him some sort of pain med for the umcomfortablness. Everyone gives them Imodium and Benadryl and such, so I was wondering about Tylenol or baby aspirin. Any suggestions will be helpful...thanks!
  21. Didn't realize someone else posted this... probably did it at the same time
  22. A friend from Arizona forwarded this to me and it brought a smile to my face. It is SO GREYT to know that research is being funded and done to find the link between Greyhounds (and other breeds) and certain cancers, including osteosarcoma. I feel like it is every other day that there's a thread on Osteo.... I truly, truly hope they find out more about this horrible cancer & are able to treat it better, prevent, or cure it from our beloved hounds. A fast runner in race for a cure
  23. Been raking his fur up and down...esp at the base of tail and armpits. Found the bugger on the top of his neck. It was so easy to see on his white fur which was good. So far...no more..... ADAMS MIST IT IS!!!! Thanks sooo much for the rec! Glad you and someone else said this.... I'm hoping it was a straggler! THX!
  24. So sorry to hear about Apollo. I checked out your blog. You have a beautiful family...humans and greys a like (Schnauzer too!) I can't fathom how you've dealt with losing so many kids in such a short span. Lotsssss of prayers for Eyore. He has the cutest/coolest name...he has to be fine! I really hope some good karma comes your way. You've done so much good... You deserve it...
