  1. Why do the brightest, most brilliant stars shine for the shortest time? We are devastated and our hearts are shattered, as we had to help our Gracie, The Girl With The Twirl, on her journey last night. Translated, Gracie means joy. Gracie was sent to me by Pal and MiMi when my heart was so desperately sad. For a little over three months, she brought healing and tremendous joy to our lives. A friend said “By Grace are you saved. Gracie is now saved.” A brown and white cow doggie, she was the first non-brindle we had ever loved. She possessed traits from each of our departed campers: Pal’s chatter, Segugio’s ears (sometimes) and intent stare, Zeke-aroni’s broken tail, LadyBug’s incredible overbite, MiMi’s attitude and vocabulary (Grrrrrr). Gracie. Her quirky smile and absolute exuberance for life. She was “a three-year-old in an eleven year old’s body.” Those huge, bright eyes, and soft beautiful fur. Her relentless (unsuccessful) pursuit to engage Sorella to play, how she waved her paws at you when you had a really special treat in front of her, how she could catch treats over and over with incredible accuracy, her amazing sit and bed fails, how she chattered, how she loved to chase her own tail! How she twirled… Gracie "Gracie has brought peace and healing to our camp and we are so happy she is here." http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/291364-gracie-is-here-welcome-to-camp-greyhound/unread/ http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/293321-gracie-our-new-alarm-clock/ http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/292932-gracie-waits-for-santa/ http://forum.greytalk.com/index.php/topic/292670-gift-wrappin-gracies-big-week-end-adventures/ Her first family didn’t want her. She found her way to Meri, who loved her and gave her the care she needed. Then she found her way to me. I will never forget sitting in my car waiting for her to arrive, and seeing the look on her face as she was standing up, intently watching over Meri’s shoulder, as they drove into the parking lot. The girl LOVED her car rides. And walks. Coming back from walks I would say “Gracie, home” and she would turn straightaway into the driveway. She knew. She was just beginning to settle in and swim with the other campers. This week, she gave me my first real kiss. She survived a second, complicated dental that healed beautifully. Our vet said “This just isn’t fair.” http://s1185.photobucket.com/albums/z360/5Roooooers/?action=view&current=Graciebath2.mp4 She hadn’t been right this past week. Just not herself. She was seen on Friday and we decided to try a course of Metacam. Saturday she woke up much brighter in her face, although still a bit unsteady behind. Sunday she began to fall, until eventually she had no use of her hind legs. She spent Monday at clinic (where, I have to say with utmost gratitude, they treat my dogs as their own), and Monday evening Gracie told me that she was ready. If she couldn't twirl and on her terms, she wasn't going to fight. I can’t stop crying, but … We should celebrate her life, the absolute JOY with which she lived, and twirled. Gracie, who would twirl, just because she could. Godspeed sweetheart, momma loved you with all of her heart. Thank you for the joy you brought to our Camp and to so many others who loved you. A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies again And though we wish it could have stayed ... We feel so lucky to have seen it. (Thank you for this.)
  2. Is this a new house? Don't laugh, because dogs have been known to react to weird wiring and other quirks of a house. Definitely first rule out something medical for Otis, and I would pay close attention to what he may be trying to tell you about the house.
  3. I am so sorry. Rest well, Lindsey.
  4. I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for loving this old gal.
  5. To lose one is too many. Two together is unspeakable. I know your pain, and I am so, very sorry for your losses and how sad you are right now. Such incredible friends who shared your life. My heart goes out to you. Godspeed sweeties. f_yellow
  6. George, I think the suggestion of a snack is to give a cookie before bedtime. I sometimes like one myself. Unless he is trying to convey ahead of the alarm that he *needs* to go out, for which I will thank him profusely, he can wait for noms.
  7. You could try waking *him* up at *4:30a* for a couple of mornings and see how he likes it I'm sorry, I don't have any real advice, other than to tell Dakota to go lay down (if you're sure that he really doesn't have to pee). If you're feeding him when he parties at that hour, he's getting what he wants. If he gets a cookie before bedtime, he should be able to wait until you are ready to feed at a reasonable time (yours!).
  8. Sweet girl. What a beauty, with those Cobblepot ears Dixie reminds me so much of someone I knew. S, I am so very sorry your girl had to leave so soon. What a beautiful tribute to your friend. Godspeed Dixie.
  9. Linda, I am so very sorry. What a wonderful, articulate guy. Godspeed Gary, we will miss you.
  10. What a wonderful dog!! Boy, you sure waited a long time, and it was all worth it. Congratulations on finding and being chosen by Rudy!!!
  11. {{{Mimi}}} I am so very sorry you had to say see you later to your beautiful girl. Godspeed Kelsey
  12. I am very sorry to see this. Gus was a legend. I am so sorry for your loss. Godspeed Gus.
  13. /Would you mind sharing how you do this? What part(s) of the chicken do you use and what else goes into the pot? Tx!/
  14. I am so very sorry. Our situations were similiar... first greyhound (and brindle!), alone, second floor, the STAIRS ... no problem. Right there, an enormous amount of trust was born. I love how Grace said to you 'It's me.... I'm the one ..." Godspeed special girl.
  15. Adequan is by prescription; my vet will OK a script through Drs. Foster & Smith (least expensive I've found, a five-dose vial is <$50), and I give the injections - your vet can show you how.
  16. 13! Raven is so pretty. We used Adequan for Pal's hind end weakness, and Seamus is receiving it now, with very good results. There are some discussions in this forum about Adequan, as well as acupuncture, which also might help.
  17. This is the most beautiful, eloquent tribute to your heart and soul friend. Your incredible photos captured some very endearing moments, moments of how it seems Hailey Jane lived her entire life! What a wonderful girl. How blessed you all are to have shared your lives together. I am so sorry now for the Hailey Jane-sized hole in your hearts. Godspeed precious girl.
  18. {{{You did it.}}} So glad you got some answers and have a plan. Hope you both got some rest. We are all pulling for your sweet old guy!
  19. Sending as many healing thoughts and prayers as possible for your big Des.
  20. Thank you, Hot Rod, from all of us.
