  1. The drug that you named is not one I have seen mentioned here in regular use for greys. If it's a liquid, it gets rather poor reviews on a few websites where I found a product with a similar name.

Bumping this back to the top hoping that one of the vets or vet techs on GT sees this and can advise if it's safe for greys.

  2. If this is a new hound from a group, chances are it has already had some de-worming done on arrival at the group. It would be better to find out from the group what treatments the hound has already had and finish or continue those as needed..

I've found that Panacur works great and helps to calm the tummy at the same time. The hound may have already had a dose of Panacur at the group and may just need the follow up dose that is usually give about 2-3 weeks later. (SafeGard is the retail package, Panacur is what it's labeled at the vet)

I don't recognize that drug name from any of the treatments we've done, but someone with more vet or drug knowledge will most likely chime in here.

  3. Are you leaving a radio or TV on so there is some background noise? Even in the racing kennels greys are used to TV or radio playing. it also helps block "apartment noises" that might set her off.

As noted above, you definitely need to do Alone Training if you haven't.

Everything your hound is experiencing right now is brand new and different from everything they have known. It's a little scary for them.

Do you have another dog? She might need one. . .

Riverhound is an enabler.....pay no attention..... :bgeorge (Hi Rachael.. :neener )

Seriously though, often times a second hound really helps this issue, but not everyone is in a position to do that. You will get lots of good suggestions here, and there are pleny of people here who have gotten through this with a little time and training. .

  4. We were surprised at how well the pine shavings will mat down and hold after the fist rain or freeze. Initially, we find them in the house for a week or so because they are loose and haven't compacted down, but after that we have very little trouble with them being dragged in. I also found that the shavings spread easily and cover much more area than mulch because the bales are compressed. This is our 2nd year using the shavings.

  5. Late to the party here, but we had the same issue. Rocket could only tolerate all of the richer foods for a month or two before having major issues. We tried them all over time.

The best we have found for him are Precise Foundation Chicken Meal and Rice, and Precise Senior. He just turned 8, and we were seeing occasional soft poops on Foundation after several years on it. The Senior blend seemed to do the trick.

For really sensitive tummies, their Lamb based Sensicare formula works well for some others that we know.

It can be hard to find a Precise dealer in some areas, so order it from Wag or Petflow depending who has the best price.

  6. Get pics of Ernie's injuries no matter how small, as well as your own. Call Animal Control and insist on making a report. This won't be the only time that this dog attacks someone, and the report and pictures may come in handy later.

I would go to the vet for a check over so that the medical care is documented should his punctures cause future problems. Not a whole lot might be able to be done this time, but if there's another incident, you want to be prepared with documentation from the first incident.

Hope you and Ernie are feeling better soon.

In the first thread there is a pic of Rocket's turnout area with horse stall bedding to control the mud (pine shavings). This worked well, and since we are getting 3 inches of rain today following the snow melt, i actually put down a couple of bales of shavings about an hour ago.

There is also mention of a mulch call "hog fuel" in one of the threads. Being in Oregon, you can probably get that and have it blown in instead of having to lug bags or wheelbarrows full of the stuff. Unfortunately, there is no company here in Central IL that uses a blower truck for mulch, or that's what i would have used instead of the shavings.
