  1. The webbing between two of Iker's toes was torn to the point where the skin was hanging down as a flap, and there wasn't any left on the side of his toe at all. The vet sedated him and stitched him up. Although we were all at my friend's house when it happened, my friend took him to the vet for me as I had to go out of town for work. I spoke to the e vet on the phone, and she said that the healing could be difficult and that he needed frequent bandage changes. How this happened to anybody's dog? How long did it take to heal? Were there any complications? Thanks. My poor baby Xavi trying to take over
  2. Loca had a similar injury. The toughest thing was keeping the bandage and her foot dry. She made a full recovery at age 11. It wasn't due to osteo; it happened while she was at playgroup.
  3. I'm so sorry. Percy will be missed by many of us. He was one of my favourites.
  4. Welcome from lovely Kitchener, ON, road construction capital of the world! Your dog is a real cutie.
  5. Loca, 13.5 - osteosarcoma Treasure, 12 - osteosarcoma Phoenix, 11 - osteosarcoma I've read research that suggests that since dogs are bred for speed, little consideration is given to whether osteo is in a particular genetic line. I would agree with your friend.

    A Passing Friend

    I'm so very sorry...
  7. I remember meeting her a long time ago. I'm so very sorry.
  8. Susan, I'm so very sorry. I like to think that he's cuddling with Alan.
  9. I'm so sorry about Beckett. Are there others greyhounds around that she can be walked with? Or a playgroup?
  10. The only thing I did differently when I flew my dog from Madrid to Toronto was that I didn't take him out of the crate until we in the vehicle. He's very shy and I didn't want to chance any escapes.
  11. Are you upset with thedog or are you upset with your son for sticking you with his puppy?
  12. I love these bags but the shipping to Canada is a bit high, I think,
  13. Some of them I gave up to a year. I know I found the right food when they coats looked really shiny and they filled out a bit after they were on their current food for about three weeks. Now I feed them Acana Cobb Chicken and Greens kibble. Crazy expensive, but it's worth it because they look great. For the first time Iker doesn't look like I'm starving him and their coats are soft and shiny. I've had dogs where the high end foods weren't successful and we did best with mid range food.
  14. I live with a dog who was the most terrified animal I've ever seen. He still has his fears 4.5 years later. Living with Iker has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. You're not being selfish. If it's ok, I'd like to share with you some of the things I've learned. 1. Keep a sense of humour, you'll need it 2. Patience, patience, patience. 3. Don't force anything. 5. Keep smiling 6. Try to walk her with other dogs when possible. 7. Accept your dog for who she is. You may never be able to take her on good walks, but you still gain a lot by living with a loving family member. Iker is afraid of walks, too. I've done several things to adapt: I walk him during off hours, I walk him on quiet routes and I don't baby him. Eventually I figured out that he was terrified of the route we'd been taking; I changed routes and things improved. The most improvement came after I adopted another dog, and let Iker choose the new family member. Try looking up Debbie Jacobs' website called Fearful Dogs. I had a Skype consultation with her, and you wouldnt believe how helpful she was. http://fearfuldogs.com/ Good luck and do whatever you think is right.
