I've lost three greyhounds to osteo. I was told that they are so stoic and that they tend to hide pain. The vet went on to say that osteo is extremely painful, even if they don't show it. I let my guys go soon after diagnosis. Pain is inevitable, and all I really cared about was sparing my doggies from having to live the bad stuff.

Phoenix was like that, only he preferred to stop in the middle of the street so I could trip over him. Some might say that nice treats would help, but he didn't care. I just kept my pace and tried not to give him the opportunity to slow down to a crawl.

My guys have all liked to hike. One of them used to run 10k with me, but we worked slowly to reach that goal.

It can take them a while to learn how to play with toys. Many never knew how to play before they were adopted. It took several years for one of mine. My guys have always like grunting toys, such as hedgehog and duck stuffies. My guys also like to play in the yard. I do a half hearted playbow and they run in return. Your dog is very, very new and it may take a while to feel comfortable enough to play, especially with people around. Relax and keep a quiet environment and all will be fine.

Relax . Everything is so new for all of you. Dried liver works good and is easy to carry in a plastic bag.

Get a super long leash and attach it to your waist with your dog on the other end. This will allow you to provide constant supervision and to praise for good behaviour, while protection your cats. It took 1.5 months of this with my dog, but it worked,

I used to take Phoenix, Loca and Treasure to a chiropractor. Great experiences for all and the results were good. We had to stop because she wouldn't treat once they were diagnosed with osteo. She felt it was too risky and painful for the dogs.
