  1. The more I read GreyTalk the more I realize the wealth of knowledge and experience out there. My new foster is 12. I would like some advice as far as special diets or anything that I should do different for this old boy. He is in good health, his teeth are all there and are stained and worn, but no gum problems. He is a bouncing energetic boy. He has more energy than my 6 year old. He is currently eating Purina ProPlan Large Breed lamb and rice. (My rescue group uses the points). He has his jammies to keep him warm and a coat for cold days. Any thing else I need to do?? Val
  2. Here is some wonderful info about happy tail. http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/greyhounds.htm This was from an earlier greytalk post. There is so much goo houndie info that I book marked the site. Val
  3. My Silver is almost all white, like the Lone Ranger's horse. He is usually the only white dog at GFNJ events and he is the only one who has clouds of fur that come off. Much like the dust that follows Pig pen on Charley Brown.
  4. Clomicalm is similar to Zoloftt in people. I have had both DH and foster on the meds. They take a several days to take effect. The pills you give today will bot kick in until Saturday or so. The same goes in reverse. Check with your vet and come up with a schedule to reduce the dose. HD lost all emotion on Zoloftt. The foster was just a regular houndie. Good Luck. Val
  5. I bookmarked this from an earlier post about "Happy Tail" http://www.grassmere-animal-hospital.com/greyhounds.htm Lots of good info here. Val
  6. Thank you greyt idea. My guy is figity when I do his nails. That might just distract him. Val
  7. Just a thought, your dryer is not working. Do you dry your clothes outside? Maybe a flea got on your clothes. You brought it in and it found the dog. I know its a real long shot. But a thought.
  8. My guy often does battle with a rose bush and gets cuts and scrapes. The vet told me to put a sock on his foot. If it is up higher on the leg use a tube sock. Hold it in place with the cloth first aid tape.
  9. My adoption group asked for references and checked us out by calling our Vet. It took two weeks for them to clear us to get a dog, and then I just did not get to pick from all of their dogs. They gave me a choice of 2 or 3 dogs to pick from. I am now a foster parent and understand why the adoption groups have to be a little picky.
  10. Trudy, this is the first place I go when I log on. Thank you for sharing the pictures and what goes on in your little part of Alaska. Val
  11. These are success stories of 2 of my fosters, all of which are now in forever homes. One named "luv being a Star" came off the hauler with an open incision in his abdomen. Yuo could see all of his insides. The vet went to nuter him and discovered an undecended testical. So they opened him up and went looking for it. They found it, stitshed him up and put him on the truck that day. 36 hours later he had pulled out all of his stiches and was a mess. We had to put warm compresses on his insides to hrlp him drain. He is fine now,and in a happy home. The last one Sassy's Gunner had such SA that he stoped eating and came to us dehydrated and a small martingale would fit him just fine. He weighed 50 lb. 7 months later he now weighs 70 lbs has a large martingale and lives in his forever home with another Grey. Over the past 2 years we have had 5 fosters all living in their forever homes. We still have one Grey, Silver and 2 cats Merlin and Piwacket.
