  1. Welcome! Oscar is gorgeous and looks so sweet. My Beth, whom I adopted August 30, has the same daddy, TNT Star Wars. She has a fabulous, easygoing personality and has adapted to home life so well. I feel like I see a trace of resemblance in his face/eyes, though it's probably just wishful thinking.
  2. I am very sorry. I am glad that you have at least the peace of knowing it is truly time. I hope the process continues to be a gentle one.
  3. My thoughts are with you . . . checked in before work to see if there is any news, will be checking through the day.
  4. Thought of you first thing when I awoke this morning, Jan. I gave Beth an extra hug in Mac's honor. Hang in there.
  5. Oh Jan, I am so shocked and sorry to hear this. I can't imagine losing Mac this suddenly. I felt honored to meet Mac at the reunion and loved his wise perspective in your posts. My thoughts are with you.
  6. I am so sorry, and keeping my fingers crossed. I can't imagine the stress you're going through.
  7. No advice, but really sorry to hear Mac's hurting -- you're both in my thoughts, and I hope he continues to improve rapidly! The acupuncture sounds like a great idea (and/or chiropractic, for that matter).
  8. Does he have to have a doggy door? Couldn't he just be taken out the front door on leash to pee, with a ramp if necessary? I don't have my girl go down the steep back steps yet (we may work on that), and only up them once in a while; we always go out the front and down our few front steps for every potty call. If there's an issue with his "holding it" while you're out without the freedom of the doggy door, perhaps he could be crated when you're gone. He might not love going back to that, the transition might take a bit of work, but considering the alternatives.... Prairieprof, fellow bungalow dweller
  9. Congratulations! Tell us all about your hound-to-be. You'll learn a TON here!
  10. My Beth (off the track since March) is a tall, leggy, noticeably muscular girl. She's about two pounds above her racing weight last I checked, and is getting a lot of exercise since I adopted her seven weeks ago. She looks pretty much like a female version of Lego, from what I'm seeing here -- her butt and shoulders are noticeably ripped, as the bodybuilders say. This is from the weekend I first got her, she may be even more muscular now:
  11. All my friends who have dogs have streaked car windows. Well, nose smudges, if not drips (and I've joined the pack). A dog-owning neighbor gave us a fun name for it that I've fully adopted as the standard noun: "pupkiss." (It's funnier if you know Yiddish.)
  12. He is adorable and seems incredibly sweet and happy! I look forward to hearing all about his adjustment to his new life. (And do dogs get jetlag?? Find myself wondering.)
  13. Welcome! Cute hound and cute kitty too -- yours is friendlier than mine so far! Pace is a very nice name.
  14. Congratulations! I also adopted my first grey/first-ever dog about five weeks ago, so I vividly know all the changes you're going through!
  15. So far I've only heard Beth bark when she's playing -- with other dogs or when she gets ramped up and wants to play with me. Once or twice she's let out soft "dream barks" in her sleep.
  16. I'm new here, but so sorry. I just lost a cat named Quinn a few weeks ago, so I know what it is to miss a Quinnie very much.
  17. What a sweetie! I have a new hound too and my kitty is a bit more tentative than yours, so congratulations! I think we have the same crate, too. I'm looking forward to introducing mine to water -- I didn't think the golfers would appreciate us coming up to the golf course pond on our walk today!
  18. What a handsome and sweet looking boy! Love the picture of him curled up with his stuffie.
  19. He's adorable (and I love the rug too!). He looks very relaxed! I'm getting my grey a week from today and I hope I have such happy pictures to share.
  20. Thanks everybody. Carey-cat appreciates the welcome too. Just so she won't feel left out, here's a picture of her lying (no kidding!) on Cynthia Branigan's Adopting the Racing Greyhound. (You can see where she was shaved for recent thyroid surgery, but she's doing great!). Carey says, "All you need to know about greyhounds is that I intend to be in charge."
  21. Congratulations! I'm getting a beautiful girl at Labor Day too! (I'm imagining that it's pretty common that long weekend = gotcha time?)
  22. Great pictures! Santos is beautiful and looks happy. Fun to see as I look forward to bringing my own girl home at the end of the month. Did he have any trouble adjusting to your hardwood floors? Have you tried the stairs I can see you have?
  23. Houndstooth, I looked at Bunny's Dogster page. Do you know that her brother, Bank on Bloke, is at QCGA now? There was a family with kids there yesterday that was looking at dogs and he was I think their top choice -- he's very sweet and gentle!
