  1. Speaking as a petite female myself, I've never had any issues with the size of the dog(s) I walk. I've walked 4 at once, the smallest being 68 lbs., the largest being about 90 lbs. I currently have 3 boys - a 85 lbs., 65 lbs., and 60 lbs. The 60 pound Galgo is the one who knocked me on my butt going after a squirrel, but only because he saw it before I did and I wasn't prepared. I'm partial to the big goofy boys as my experience has been they are more laid back. I've fostered and dog-sat for females, and unless it's an exceptionally easy female, I'm going to stay with the big boys. As long as your wife is prepared and keeps watch for situations which may arise on a walk (cat, squirrel, groundhog, etc.), she should be fine.
  2. Drs. Fosters & Smith also carries Vetmedin. My vet will price match the Drs. Foster & Smith price. Might see if your vet will do the same.
  3. So happy for you. Thanks for saving this bonded pair of seniors.
  4. fenix916 - you are definitely not alone here. Please keep updating this post so we know how he's doing. Clark wasn't crate trained either, but does OK confined to one room. And get some belly bands and line them with feminine pads. They will become your new best friend! Clark is also rain and thunder-phobic and shakes uncontrollably any time it is raining within a 30 mile radius of our house. This is the reason I am going to ask the vet about giving him Xanex for these specific times. He exhausts himself with the uncontrollable shaking, usually after seeking refuge in the bathtub! Good luck!
  5. Your post sounds like something I could have written. We have a 12 year old hound who we've had for 7 years now, and we've tried many different things with Clark. A little background - I adopted Clark from the humane society at which I was volunteering. He was one of 37 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation. Our understanding is that at one point, Clark was kept in the basement. Needless to say, socialization and potty training was and always has been an issue. Clark has made tremendous leaps and bounds and I have tried many different tactics to socialize Clark (one of which was an obedience class - Clark got "most improved). Clark is on his second try at Prozac. It helps his overall demeanor, but not some of his anxiety issues. One thing it has helped is the urinating in the house. We have Clark's yearly vet appt. this Saturday and are going to discuss whether the addition of Xanax would help. I wish you the best of luck and hope you find a solution to your hound's anxiety.
  6. So sorry to hear about Desi. Hope he's on the mend sooner rather than later.
  7. Welcome from a fellow Buckeye! Carl is a handsome boy.
  8. Welcome from Central Ohio! Baron is stunning!
  9. I will be following this thread because Runner started doing almost the exact same thing yesterday. I know he has arthritis, so I'm going to watch him in the next day or two and see what happens.
  10. Welcome from the Columbus area. You are getting two very handsome boys! Congrats and good luck!
  11. Ditto here. Sometimes I swear I have scent hounds instead of sighthounds!!

    Moto Hot Rod

You and your family have my deepest sympathy. Hot Rod will definitely be missed here on GT.
  13. Welcome back! And Hubby and I love Sarasota!
  14. Just looking for an update on Rogan. And also whether you ever heard a word from the vet that screwed up?
  15. Are you still putting the probotics in with the Iams? If so, could you leave the probotics out and see how they do w/o it? Clark can eat about anything, but Runner had the same issue. And like you, I had tried all the additives, had fecals, etc., none of which worked. But as soon as I switched to Iams (and I mean with the first poop), Runner had solid poop and has never had a problem since (unless I give him a chewie or something). Good luck! I know it's frustrating.
  16. My heart breaks for you. Run free sweet Riddick.
  17. Welcome! As you can see I'm in the area and would be glad to answer any questions!!
  18. Another Iams convert here. Clark has a good stomach and can eat about any brand. But when we adopted Runner, it was soft serve and I tried several different brands (some of those were the $$$ brands) over several months. Finally, I resorted to trying Iams, and I didn't even mix it with the former food because he already basically had the big D, so I thought "what the heck." To my total amazement, Runner's first poop on Iams was perfect! We feed the blue "weight control" bag because Runner tends to pack on the weight if I'm not careful. To supplement, they get a multi-vitamin once a day.
