  1. Just a quick update. Stewie seems to be improving and is limping less although he is on pain meds so that would happen logically. The swelling has reduced although it is still bigger than normal. We will continue him on his meds and I hope by EOW he is back to normal.
  2. I am sorry it was her time to leave. She had an incredible spirit that will continue to live on. Got to love the fiesty girls. Run for Allie, run free sweetie...
  3. Thanks Tracy. I really hope this is the case. Stewie is not much different than yesterday. I think the swelling may have reduced some and his limp is still very pronounced with him putting a little bit of weight on it. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll see some better improvement. Again thank you everyone for the good thoughts.
  4. Back from the vet as we lucked out and got a 9am. The films showed nothing, no shadows, no mottling at all which is good news albeit I know some have had similar experiences and found out bad news on the next set of films. Hopefully this won't happen to us and he is now on Metacam and Tramadol. The vet also did blood work and all looks good. Thanks for the good thoughts and if you can continue with them for Stewie, I would greatly appreciate it. Kyle
  5. Stewie has a severe limp now. It started up again after we go back from Florida on Monday which just so happens to be the day I had to leave on business. I gave him a does of Metacam hoping it was just a sprain. Well got back last night and I see a limp, his rear right hock is slightly swollen and warm so all that points to likely Osteo in my mind. Going to get him in today for an X-ray but I think I already know what the news will be. This is beyond devastating as he is such a sweet boy and his delicate nature has me questioning if he could handle an amp. Also I question whether Lynn and I can go through this again. It's so emotionally draining no matter how much time they get.
  6. Sorry for the tardiness of my response. Of course he was walking well after a few soaks and bandaging his feet for a day. Still went to the vet to have him checked out and he said that it looked like only a blister and was now healing over. I always got to remember Stewie is a huge baby, like massive and he is no Charlie when it comes to any pain. So great news all round and he is walking like a champ! This is what I cannot believe though. As stated in the first post we are staying on Anna Maria Island, FL for a few weeks to get away from winter, albeit it's been the warmest one so far back home. The vet had not seen a Grey in ages and he brought in two vet techs so they view him and handle him. Strange when there is a track within 10 miles. On top of all this, the visit was ONLY $25!!! I have not had that cheap a vet bill since like 1980 or so. Back home that would have been the standard $69.
  7. First soak was done and still can't see much more. It appears some of the top layer of the pad is off but that is about it. Will soak it again multiple times and will use Shea butter on it to moisture it up. Also made a vet appt tomorrow at 3:40pm and hope they find nothing serious or he is better tomorrow. Of course our minds are going where one does not want to go so we'll try to keep positive thoughts.
  8. The plan today is to soak in warm water and Epsom salts as I was thinking it could be foreign matter in his pad? Tough to say between corn or that but either way several goods soaks should help. Just not sure whether to bandage or just get duct tape and cover? The former if it's something in there and the latter if it's a corn.
  9. We are down on Anna Maria Island for a few weeks and are walking the pups a lot as usually they run in the fenced yard and only down our paved street to the beach and back when home. Here however there is road construction going on with gravel in many area and then there are shelled drives, etc. that he has been walking on. On Monday, a day after getting here, he started a slight limp and I looked at his paw and saw a little blood on one pad or it appeared to be blood but it was dusk and hard to see clearly. We cleaned his paw that evening and next day The seemed to decrease and we continued to walk him. The following day there only a very slight limp if that as he was dragging as it's very warm here. This morning went to take him out for his pre breaky walk and he is holding his paw up. I took a look and could not see much initially and got him outside and once we walked a short ways to some grass he seemed a lot better and only limped when walking back on some pavement and gravel. Now inside on the tile floors, he hardly puts any weight on it so I really looked closely and it seems that it is his pad but I don't see blood but it looks to be shredded a bit and now to me what looks like a round mark. I dampened it to get another look and this is what I see, thoughts? Thanks for any insights!
  10. I am very sorry for the loss of your pretty girl. Run free Zilla, run free sweetie...
  11. I am sorry to read you had to say goodbye to your boy. Hang in there.
  12. I am sorry. What a beauty your girl was and always will be. Run free Kali, run free sweetie...
  13. As others have already said, contact a local group and let them know your concern and I am sure they will find you a pup that you will do fine with. One like my Stewie would do you well, all 80 lbs of him. When walking, he most often beside me or behind me, never pulls and if you walk too far, he'll really be lagging. . Prey drive will definitely play onto it as well because you are bound to come across a squirrel or cat that darts out in front of you but again, it depends on the pup. I have more trouble walking our 13lb Chipin (Chihuahua/Min Pin) who is super high prey drive than I do my sweet boy.
  14. We always muzzle when leaving the house. It does not hurt them in any way and yes while you may want not to do this, the results of an accident is traumatic and expensive. When we had three Greys, two boys and a girl, they never disliked each other, never growled at each and the boys were close buddies. Still we muzzled because if you look at the pictures of injuries and read the stories of some who have lost their pups due to an altercation, it's heartbreaking.
  15. I am sorry you had to say goodbye to your sweet girl. Run free Misty, run free sweetie...
  16. What a beauty she was and always will be. I am so very sorry you had to say goodbye but know in your heart you gave her a loving home and the pictures show exactly what love does, it heals all.
  17. Just reading this now and I am sorry Mary Pat. I hope Tanzi gets a few more days in the sun and warmth.
  18. Yup seniors are so very special and to those that adopt them, thank you and for those who don't, you don't realize what you are missing. Yes they may be more work medically but they are less work in other areas and so very sweet. Nancy, I am so sorry to read of Nixon's diagnosis.
  19. I am so sorry for the loss of your sweet boy. Thank you for giving him a loving home the last months of his life.
  20. I am so very sorry. Such a shock to lose your girl.
  21. And you did good by Taylor. You did exactly what you said you would and more. Thinking about your special boy.
