  1. Well the 133 umol/L high on reference range is equivalent to the 1.5 mg/dL high ref range on my dog’s lab work. While 133 umol/L might be on the high side of average for a Grey, it could be normal for your dog. I had a Grey whose normal was about the same. Had a lurcher that actually ran a bit higher. (She was 3/4 sighthound.) It isn’t something I’d worry about if it was stable & other lab work was okay. Of course, I’m just a pet owner, not a vet. The second opinion sounds like a good approach before trying another antibiotic. Let us know what happens.
  2. With that much hardware she’ll set off metal detectors for blocks around! Hope the upcoming days go as smoothly as possible for you all.
  3. Tried to find a conversion from umol to mg/dL, the value used in it lab work. Your dog might have 1.77 mg/dL. That doesn’t seem very high for a Greyhound. However, a lot would depend on the reference range for the blood work you have.
  4. Welcome to Greytalk! Sorry this is the reason. My first question is will you please include the normal range from the blood work? Creatinine in Greyhounds can run higher than other breeds. Do you have any blood work results prior to January? Am wondering what the numbers were before. Also, what prompted the vet visit that resulted in blood work. Was your dog ill or was this a routine checkup?
  5. Oh dear, Kibo. You're either very brave, very optimistic, very naive or some combo thereof.
  6. That's rough, but glad it helped. However, am picturing your pup with two paws on one leg. It's... confusing.
  7. Sending good wishes for a speedy & complete recovery. Also hoping the surgery happens soonest.
  8. Wish I had something to offer besides sympathy. Duct tape seemed the only relief for Sol, albeit temporary. Primarily let me peel a few layers of & primarily get the corn surface lower than the rest of the pad. Took a couple weeks & only brought short term relief. Better than nothing but an ongoing challenge & overall rather disappointing.
  9. Yes, the sound was enough to send my Venus over the edge. Hold on tight! Mercury, I’d never thought of that. Now I really want a a robot vacuum! Oh, did I admit to that. I meant to say, “Bad Roomba! Bad! Don’t chase the dog.”
  10. This is what come from ordering dog toys for your feet.
  11. FastCAT isn’t racing. It’s just a run for fun event. You’ve no need to contact the adoption agency. ETA: Lots of folks have gotten PAL for their hounds, for a variety of reasons. You’ve nothing to worry about.
  12. Happy birthday, Wiki!! Looks like you had a lot of fun.
  13. Hope your day was wonderful, Sid! And congrats to your lucky human family for having 3 years worth such a good looking dude.
  14. Paw licking can be a sign of steers or boredom. Though when my dogs did that it was the front feet/legs. It can also be a sign of pain, not necessarily in the pass she’s licking. Have had two dogs with spinal arthritis and, suspected neuropathic pain. Both licked their back feet until started on medication, NSAID & gabapentin. But in both cases it was both back paws effected. Have had a couple Greys, including my current girl, who get a sour stomach if they go too long without food. Giving a bedtime snack seemed the best way to avoid the morning gacks. Sometimes giving a small yummy treat first thing in the morning can kickstart their appetite. Though sometimes my Su shuns even the best items. And sometimes that treat does reappear when she hacks it up. Some GI parasites can cause stomach upset & hookworms in Greys can be notorious for evading tests & sometimes treatment.
  15. I'm so very sorry. That is such a hard thing. You made the right choice. By the time my little lurcher was showing the pain it was much too late. On the way to the vet for xrays her leg broke. Xrays showed the extend of the metastasis. I had no idea but feel like I should have and unintentionally let the poor girl suffer. Run free, Charlie. Be well and whole again. God speed.
  16. palmettobug, at first glance that looked like two different dogs, front half on one & back half of another. Silly eyes playing tricks on me. Had to look again to convince myself it was one dog. He’s a handsome boy with a greyt hairdo.
  17. My Luke (Alabama Duke) had a neck crest. I still miss that boy. It reminded me of a roached mane. His sire was Australian and those ancestors were unfamiliar to me. On his dam's side I had to look back a little way to find familiar names, Pecos Cannon and further back Westy Whizzer.
  18. [Sunita says...] What? You mean it humans are supposed to celebrate these things? Well I’m glad you got the good humans who know how to treat their royalty. Please excuse me. I have to place a call to the adoption agency. Human!! Bring me your phone & dial this number, pronto!
  19. No starring box but looks like they have their own track. Wonderful photos of Abu the stalker & Saoirse the sprinter.
  20. Aaaannnd we’re back to homemade, again. We are again at the point where BF pulls something out of the fridge & asks in all seriousness, “Is this for me or the dog?” 😁 If switching back & forth between homemade & canned, keeps her eating enough to halt the weightloss then I’m fine with throwing out an uneaten meal or three every few days. Am definitely going to put chicken on the grocery list. I do not like dealing with meat but I can do it in a big batch & toss some in the freezer for later. If he’s nice to me, I might even use some for BF.
  21. She was initially excited by the canned food variety but after 4 different cans, she decided she's had enough. [sigh] Though between the stretch of homemade and short run of canned again, she is looking a little less stick like. You know, I used to be strict where food was concerned. Tried to get healthy and something the dogs like, but then it was eat it or go hungry. Those days are clearly over. It feels like I've tried everything but, of course, I haven't. However, I have tried parmesan & Dyne. Su took a pass on both. Maybe she's holding out for Parmigiano Reggiano. She likes some other cheeses though. It grates well, like a less dry version of parmesan. The Composure Max is an interesting idea. I am skeptical when it comes to nutraceuticals, but the Composure chews helped several dogs. The chews were what my mom referred to as "the scary medicine". It helped their storm phobic dog and my own as well. Mentioned it to someone else & they had similar success. It didn't cure the problem but it took enough edge off their anxiety to prevent a meltdown. The liquid is definitely worth a try.
