  1. I first was on here many years ago with our first boy Bailey who was then joined by Snickers. We lost Bailey to osteo several years ago and we recently lost Snickers at age 13. We have just adopted a new 3 year old boy named Roper. His racing name was Roper is Here. We had planned on changing his name, but Roper just fits him somehow. He is very different than any Greyhound we have owned before and I think we are all still in the figuring each other out stage. We have had to work on him not chasing the cat as well as still working on him not playing too hard with our smaller dogs, but he is learning and making progress. He is a sweet boy that wants to please, even if he is a little stubborn at times. He is an expert stuffie destroyer, has no idea how big he is, loves to cuddle and loves to meet new people. Here is our boy. and here he is with our Australian Cattle Dog mix Josie.
  2. I am so sorry to hear this. Run free sweet Andy.
  3. Ohio has a lot of lurchers that are Greys mixed with Labs or coonhounds. He sure doesn't look like those that I have seen. He looks very much GH to me.
  4. I am so sorry. So glad your MIL was there.
  5. I am so sorry. Godspeed sweet Emmy.
  6. I posted in off topic about my DH's co-worker that has the GH that was recently diagnosed with Osteo and is receiving chemo. She was supposed to get chemo today but her white cell count is way too low, but it is going up some. They have her on antibiotics to try and bring the white cell up and as a result she isn't eating much. The dog is in my DH's office today because they thought she would be getting her chemo and didn't want to leave her at the vet all day. My DH said that she has a bowl of cooked turkey, chicken and her favorite dog food, but the only thing she has eaten today are 2 Burpdog biscuits my DH took in to her. Any ideas of what else she can try to get her to eat?
  7. What a beautiful tribute. I am so sorry for you loss.
  8. Has she had Ivormectin before? Collies are extremely sensitive to it to the point they can have a fatal reaction. I am sure there would be some greyhounds that could be sensitive to it. When I first got my Collie I did have her on heartguard and she threw up and had similiar symptons to what you describe both times I gave it to her. She is now on interceptor.
  9. Oh how sad! I followed his story through the Northcoast website and so excited when he found his forever home. Run free handsome boy!
  10. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the day you brought her home. I always loved looking at Sally pictures.
  11. My Smooth-coat Collie got diagnosed at 2 1/2 with PRA. She is now 7 1/2 and most people would never know that she can see very little. The vet says her eyes respond so little that she can't be seeing a lot either. She still races around the yard with the greyhounds, chases toys as long as you throw them right in front of her. The things I do notice with her is that she won't go to the bathroom outside if it is dark. We have a covered deck with a light on it and if she is desperate she may take 2 steps into the yard and do her business but that is it. We have talked about installing a flood light that would light up a larger portion of the yard. She has always been a barking machine, but now she barks a lot more. She just lately starting getting a little snippy with the other dogs if they bump into her. I think it startles her and scares her. Other than these few things she has adjusted very well.
  12. This latest incident you described definately sounds like a seizure.
  13. My Smooth Coat Collie was diagnosed with PRA when she was 2 1/2 and she is now 7 and is not completely blind. Her vision loss has been much more gradual than is typical. She has now lost all vision in her Right eye. Her night vision did go first and she doesn't like going out at night. We have a bright back porch light and are going to install a light that lights up a small section of the yard. In the daytime she does well. She is struggling some now because our Border Collie mix went to the bridge this summer and she was the Collies eyes and confidence. I never realized how much she depended on her until she was gone and Sabrian went into major depression and was more afraid to move. She was gaining her confidence back and then experienced the vision loss in her right eye and became hesitant again, but she will adjust again I am sure. The only times she gets really stressed are if I take her to a strange place like a friends yard and let her off leash or when we move things around to put up the Christmas tree. You will be amazed how quickly your boy will adjust.
  14. So glad to hear that she is doing so well after the surgery. I will continue to pray she has a speedy recovery.
  15. My two both do it at different times. It is usually happiness in Bailey and contentment. For Snickers it usually is excitement.
  16. I am so sorry. I am so glad you got that time with him at Dewey.

    Hogan

I am so sorry for your loss. I too always loved Hogan pictures.
  18. I will be praying for you and for Scooter. So sorry to hear this.
  19. That is the drops Snickers was on. The vet told me I should see results in a few days and actually within 24 hours they were much better. Hope that is the case for you also.
  20. My new boy Snickers had something similiar however his third eye lid was bright red. It did affect both eyes at the same time. It was an allergy and after 24 hours on eye drops they were much better.
  21. Snickers tore two of his paw pads today running in the yard. The vet is guessing it is because the ground is so hard from lack of rain and extreme heat. She also noticed some thinning of his pads on a few other spots. I have heard that there is an ointment that will protect the pads. Does anyone know what this is called?
  22. I am so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful tribute.

    Sadie

Sadie girl, you came into our lives as an 11 week old puppy. You were the most unique looking puppy with your brown body and black stripe down your back. We always said your were part skunk, or weasel. You came when I was going thru medical problems and you made all the difference in my world. We formed quite a bond training in obedience and agility. You were the "perfect" dog. You helped a neighbor overcome her fear of dogs because of your gentle nature. You were as child proof as they get. You really found your purpose when you got certified by the Delta Society as a pet assisted therapy dog. You would go with me to work and sleep under my desk until I called you then out you would come. I will never forget the joy on the kids faces as those who could barely move their arms would throw you treats. Kids that didn't want to walk with their walkers would do so just to be able to take you for a walk. Kids that could barely speak would struggle to say "Sadie". What a difference you made to them, and to me. You tolerated every new pet we brought into the house and welcomed every foster and dog we dog sat for. You were Miche's ears and Sabrina's eyes. You will be greatly missed. Run free my sweet girl. I will always love you.
  24. Donna, You know my heart is breaking right there with you. Thank you for sharing Bounty with us. He did so much for Bailey. I know Bailey will miss him deeply. I always said that I wanted my next dog to be like Bounty, however I don't think I could find another dog like him. I will always picture him barking at his tail and that will make me smile. Run free Sir Bounty.
