  1. It is noteworthy and amazing how some greyhounds are sooo loving even to complete strangers. Even friendly "regular" dogs are not usually like that. Greyhounds have such a depth of love. To me it is just more proof of their innate wisdom and why we should appreciate the opportunity to learn from them. They inherently know that nothing is more powerful or healing than love-even to strangers-and that everyone needs it.
  2. That is one of the most beautiful tributes I have ever read. I was very moved in reading it and getting the opportunity to know a little of and marvel and yes love Buddy. There is so much love surrounding him! It is most obvious. Clearly a super special houndie "For love is as strong as death.... Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised." -Song of Solomon 8:6-7 "Some animals...leave a trail of glory behind them. They give their spirit to the place where they have lived, and remain forever a part of the rocks and streams and the wind and sky." - Marguerite Henry
  3. Wow. Annie is quite the celebrity! What a wonderful gift she has to be able to handle kids hehe. I admit I couldn't do it but then GREYHOUNDS ARE PRETTY SPECIAL!
  4. Yes. I had to give Aggie fluids. The vet just had me do it sub-Q and showed me how in 5 minutes. Easy peasy and it does help them feel better and probably prolongs their life IMO. Worth doing IMO and is NOT difficult.
  5. You are blessed to have her and she is blessed to have found you. Congratulations! The pics are greyt! Love them. It is quite obvious she is a special lady. -she even likes french fries! That will come in handy on Rockets FF day .
  6. Buddy I'm sure you will feel lots better now! I have had acupuncture done on several houndies and they all love love loved it. In fact one of them, Bobber, I have to say it could have saved her life! She came down with a terrible high fever that her conventional vet could not bring it down even with IV antibiotics! She tried everything. Nothing worked. Probably was due to a kidney infection. On like the 4th day the fever was still raging & there was little improvement and I began to fear that she would begin seizuring from the constant high fever and then possibly lose her. So my acupuncture vet is booked LONG in advance but I called her and explained the urgency and she seen her right away. When I brought her home from her acupuncture treatment immediately the fever began to go down and she began to make dramatic improvement-quickly-and recovered. It turned out to be a systemic kidney infection or something like that. Anyway I THINK what happened was her "pathways" had been blocked so she couldn't heal and the antibiotics couldn't work UNTIL she got her accupuncture treatment! IMO the acupuncture must have opened up her "pathways" thus allowing the antibiotics to work. That is the only explanation I can come up with because before the acupuncture the antibiotics had no effect whatever.. As soon as she got acupuncture they began working. Acupuncture is the bees knees in my opinion!
  7. HAPPY 5TH GOTCHA DAY!!!!!!!! AnnIE and Punkin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Happy gotcha day Willa! You go girl! Those are some awesome and wonderful pictures but then how could they be otherwise? You are an awesome and wonderful girl!!
  9. My heart is breaking for you. Sending much love and my deepest sympathy. The Way In the darkness I turned to go; my last day's done; I'll miss you so. No time even to say goodbye or to lock the tears spilling from your eyes. That's when I heard you call my name; I knew right then I must turn back to help ease your pain. Since I've no voice with which to speak, its whispers in your dreams I'll make. Ease your heart and rest your mind, my time with you was the best of kind. I couldn't have asked for a better friend, we've shared our journey to the very end. There's one final thing you need to know, I'll whisper in your ear before I go....."I'm leaving first to find the way...so I can lead you back here with me on your last day." -(SLong)
  10. I don't get it. I think they just for some reason have took leave of their common sense. I actually learned the concept of equipment being deadly serious from working w/ horses first but its the same thing-just a little more obvious when the animal is 1000 lbs. People & animals DIE when old won out damaged equipment surprise!-breaks! They don't stop to think that their precious hound could DIE! because they were too cheap to keep decent safe equipment-or too busy to even notice its condition. I guess all we can do is try to politely point it out to people for the sake of the hounds.
  11. What a beautiful scene! I wish I could "be a stay at home dog mom" and be just like them! I'd be laying down there with them. LOVE your sign!
  12. macoduck you know you are right. I like this verse about it: "For love is as strong as death.... Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised." -Song of Solomon 8:6-7
  13. Might give them a substantial dose of kaopectate. At least a half ounce or more/I squirt it down the back of their tongue with one of those giant syringes. I worked at UGA Vet School for 2 years and they used it like water. It certainly shouldn't hurt them or interfere with any treatments the vet gives. It does coat their insides and often helps and soothes them- at least until you can get to the vet.
  14. Wow. People should be diligent to use TOP QUALITY equipment as well. The cheap China stuff from pet stores is not designed to withstand the forces a hound can put on it.
  15. Slim I went down memory lane this year wondering what my theme would be this time. I looked at your pictures and pictures and pictures. I read about your exploits. And then it became obvious that a good topic would be your incredible power, versatility and most of all love. You were and could do everything. I have pictures to prove it! You were a teacher-taught me things I couldn’t even imagine -many of them from the other side. You are and always have been your family’s protector. How you would go to the elevated portion of the yard and lay there watching and guarding your family. How you were always looking out the windows. How on at least 2 different occasions you drove off evil ones trying to break in while I was at work. Oh yes, I have pictures of the blood and destruction from that one. But the other hound Goldie was safe(hiding in a bedroom) and you allowed no property to be taken. I can never forget the day you alerted and jumped to intercept and engage with a huge St. Bernard that weighed twice what you did when it locked on me, growled, and raced to attack me. You never hesitated. You are my St. Guinefort. Pics of US- our love -the special bond we shared -that words are inadequate to describe. We were NEVER apart-not one single night. I take comfort in that since you had to leave so early. I am now always aware of how priceless together time is. Intelligence-oh yes! You are a smart cookie. You “sitting” on the sofa like a human does. You when you arrived- you were 47 lbs and should have been around 75. You were so weak you stood around with your head down. You were laying on the living room floor when a strange young male (to you) come zooming into the room and you jumped up and charged toward him. THAT’S how protective you were of YOUR family. Even in that condition your first thought was your- family of 1 days- protection. You didn't even know us yet but you knew we offered you love -and food!-something you had not had the entire 10 months of your life previously. In fact you had been taken to a vet for euthanasia but the vet called USA DefendersOfGreyhounds instead. Turns out that that young male was family you just hadn’t met yet and you became good friends with each other. I was only supposed to be transporting you. But I knew immediately that you were going to stay-forever. Playing ball. Pictures of the many greyhound festivities we participated in. Pictures of you doing detection work even. Some things like that could only be explained by your life before we met. You kept most of that from me but I did find out that your name then was ‘Ruthless’. You were all about protecting people. You just wanted everybody to be safe. And when a bad person (dogs’ know!) crossed your path you tried to take them out unapologetically. Hence you had a ‘reputation’. And then there were people on bicycles. You just plain didn’t like them 😊 and considered them fitting prey. Sparring with me. How I loved how we could spar/fight – I was training for my black belt at the time and you helped me! We will always be “2 peas in a pod.” You know me better than I know myself. This years remembrance doesn’t seem to be as “organized” as the previous years but it actually is. The power, the emotions could not be deeper. And most importantly Slim THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS REMEMBERING ME!!!!!” You send me all kinds of signs when I need them and still take the best care of me. I know you will always be there for me as I will be for you. ALWAYS my love!!!!
