Friends says appears to disappeared due to a possible divorce and it was his wife who did the sewing.  :dunno

Although Houndstown has a FB page, it is out of date.  His Etsy shop is closed. GIG's list of vendors has him with James River Greyhounds in VA. There are no collar or harness listings in the JRG shop.

I don't know who makes these for Hound-Safe, but she has good stuff, vends at GIG, and is sometimes here on Greytalk.

Editing to add the Hound-Safe harness are made by Houndstown but are very very short supply and there may not be a re-stock available. Tell your friend that she needs to order soon.

Thanks for the link, I checked and they are all out of stock. I sure hope he'll stay making them again. Great quality and the price was great, too. I call it Gildy's Versace ala 80's Madonna S & M harness!

If you need an alternative, the 2 Hounds Design Harness works well, and FreeToFeet is a collar maker out of Charlottesville, VA.

I have several 2Hounds harnesses, but my girl can slip them. My friend's dog has an even higher prey drive, so I wanted to recommend the Houndstown Safety Banner Harness to her.

I went back into the Reach the Beach fb page.  The group is James River Greyhounds.

    Thank you!

Ok, thanks so much. I have one of his safety banner reflective harnesses for my huntress. If she sees a squirrel all bets are off of she's wearing a martingale or a regular harness, but she can't slip out of the safety banner harness.

  4. Does anyone know if Houndstown is still around? The website is fine and the Etsy shop isn't selling anything. They had such a great harness, I was going to send a link to a friend, but they are no where to be found.

  5. Hi there,

I haven't been on here in a long long time, life got in the way.  I am looking for a collar maker who works with deerskin who I could contact to make a breakaway tag collar.  I had one made for Bowie years ago, but can't find the maker of it.  I need it for her girl, Gildy, she's black and I need something bright with reflective material on it.  Thanks!

The last I heard the theory was a lot of the adverse side effects were due to counterfeit products. I'll keep watching for new info, but we use Seresto and knock on wood, haven't had any issues.

I understood the same thing.  I only buy Seresto collars from the same reputable sources, either Costco or Chewy.  I've been using them when I had Carl (so from the mid to late 2000s) and they are a godsend.  I haven't had a bit of trouble with them, knock on wood!  As with anything, someone will always have an adverse reaction to it.

oh my gosh, how young and how sad :(:(  what was her Greytalk signon?  I don't recognize her "real" name :(:(

You know what, I can't remember. I knew her in person, so I'm not sure I knew it. I know she was on here because she made some friends here.

  8. For those of you who may have known Camille here on Greytalk, I just learned today that she passed on August 3, one day after her birthday. Camille's beloved Beans and Bertie passed several years ago, her sweet Lemon Drop is back with GreySave. Camille was always a lot of fun to be around and loved her dogs fiercely.

Here is a link to her obituary:

  9. Is anyone having trouble with the "new and improved" Kirkland Lamb & Veggie kibble (dark green bag)? It says that the shape is different, but I know of at least 2 dogs who are now refusing their kibble (new bag) - that specific kind. I seriously doubt that the dogs are protesting the change in the kibble shape. At this point they stick their noses near it and walk away.

Helped. I wish we had started the amantadine sooner. We were given what, 10 more days, before I had to let her go.

I'm so sorry, though I'm glad it gave both of you some extra quality time.

This sounds like a study that was going on when Bowie was diagnosed with osteo. Unfortunately, I didn't know about it at the time of her amputation. When I found out about it I called  to ask how much of the tumor they needed in order to be able to make the vaccine. I got a hold of the lab that had done the pathology on Bowie's tumor and they had already discarded the tumor sample. So if anyone has a dog with osteo and they are interested in participating in immunotherapy with their dog's own tumor as a mechanism for the vaccine please make sure you save a large enough sample of the tumor material in order for them to make the vaccine.

  12. I used it for my friend's greyhound that I was taking care of while they were overseas. It helped him tremendously, unfortunately it helped him too much. He came in from outside moving slightly faster than he had before, was bearing weight on it and fractured it. I had to let him go 2 days before his family came home. So it can work well, just be cautious.

I'm sorry to say that our beautiful Bella has joined the osteo club. She would have been 15 in April so we are going with quality of life and palliative care but looking at days, maybe weeks. No consult with Dr. Couto necessary as the impacted areas were obvious to me on the images. In the meantime, after today's diagnoses, she got a cheeseburger from Micky D's which made her happy.

I'm so sorry to read this. I know you'll keep her comfortable and showered with love in the time you have left together.
