  1. Please could you also add Sunny, who passed today. I'm not sure when I'll be able to write his tribute. Thank you.
  2. Perhaps there is a fungal infection of some kind causing irritation. Coconut oil is a natural anti-fungal and you can give it to her orally and topically.
  3. My boy had a TIA 6 years ago, which affected his eyesight on one side. He wasn't blind in the eye, but he definitely couldn't see properly out of it - perhaps double vision or similar. He recovered completely within about a week, including his eyesight. He is on 20mg aspirin twice a day, but he is a big boy.
  4. It's very heartening to see him doing so well.
  5. What a dreadful blow this must have been for you, but I'm so glad Summit is improving, and will be keeping my fingers crossed that he makes a full recovery under your tender loving care. Love to you all.
  6. Yes, that's what I think, too, but I think I vaguely remember reading many years ago that some drugs can make the actual euthanasia slower or more difficult in some way, but this is a very vague recollection.
  7. In the UK it's not so common for dogs to have a sedative prior to the actual shot. I had an awful experience with one of my poodles. He had no sedative and the vet couldn't find a vein and the dog was thrashing around and crying. That was 30 years ago and I've never forgotten it. I think about it less often though. I've been wondering about whether it's OK to give them drugs prior to euthanasia, since I may be facing it again soon. Does anyone know if it's OK to give drugs such as diazepam, tramadol and/or gabapentin prior to the euthanasia? I will check with my vet at some point, but just wondering if anyone here has any thoughts about this.
  8. I would most definitely use a harness, otherwise she could seriously damage herself.
  9. Is he any better today? It could also be a neck or back problem. Have a feel (gently) along his spine in between his shoulder blades to see if that gets any reaction, and also along his whole spine.
  10. I have the same issue with one of mine who is also 11 years old. As I'm home with him most of the time it's not so much of an issue, as I can just wait for him to get up on his own terms. The only thing I can suggest is seeing if he'll wear an assistance harness, either overnight or 24/7, so that you can encourage him to stand without manhandling him. Unfortunately my boy won't wear one but it may be an option for you. We tried the Greyhound Assistance Harness made by Godsgreyts https://www.etsy.com/listing/225448995/greyhound-assistance-harness and the Ruffwear Webmaster http://www.amazon.com/Web-Master-Harness-Medium-Currant/dp/B005OTY7A6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1458837827&sr=1-1&keywords=ruffwear+webmaster+harness
  11. Handsome boy! Out of interest, why do you think he's not an ex-racer? Are his ears tattoed?
  12. You could try leaving a night light on to see if it makes any difference. We use the ones that plug into an electric socket - they don't give out much light, but enough to see where you're going.
  13. What a beautiful, special boy he was. There are never enough moments. So sorry for your sudden loss.
  14. I remember someone on here (don't remember who) whose greyhound injured the nerves in one of his front legs in a car accident. The leg was useless and the vets advised amputation but the owners didn't amputate and the leg eventually recovered.
  15. Mine are both 11 and are more picky than they used to be. I just give them lots of variety, including raw and home-cooked and plenty of treats. I figure at their age they've earned it and it's more important to me that they enjoy their food than that I win some sort of battle of wills. That probably wasn't very helpful was it.
  16. So sorry for your loss of Mary.
  17. I'm so sorry for your loss of your best friend. We lost one to bone cancer at the age of 6 and it does add another layer of grief when they die so young and you feel they were cheated of a normal life-span.
  18. Could be a seizure, but another thing to consider is a transient ischemic attack (TIA) which may have temporarily damaged a nerve somewhere. My boy had one a few years ago which temporarily damaged a nerve which affected his eyesight in one eye for about a week.
  19. Have you seen the Nature's Menu raw nuggets? Pets At Home sell them. They're very convenient as already formed into bite-sized nuggets. I give these to one of mine who has swallowing difficulties. What is the cold-pressed kibble? I'm intrigued.
  20. A sad situation, but hopefully if a nerve was damaged by the needle it will eventually heal completely, although nerves are slow to heal so could take a few weeks.
  21. Are your vets considering autoimmune issues as a possible diagnosis?
