  1. We just picked up a foster that had her stitches removed from the amputation. She is pretty wobbly on her remaining back leg. Is there anything we can do to help her regain her strength in the leg so she is not so prone to fall? She is trying gallently to maneuver the back leg under her to move, but after a hop or two, she looses balance and almost falls. (We are trying to assist her, but this is our first special needs foster). We need to be trained in helping her get around. Besides the sling, anything else in the advise column would be appreciated! Thanks! Sherrie, Mom to spoiled rotten Kendra
  2. Hang on Ace. Be a good boy and let your momma give you something that will put a little nutrition in your tummy. When our friends came for a visit, their 17 year old poodle had quit eating. Between boiled rice and tuna in water (dont strain out the water, just add a little straight from the can) and making it a little warm in the micro, started that pup back to eating. Good luck, and you are a good mom for trying everything for this boy!
  3. Deb, You may have gave her a piece of your heart, but she took with her a piece of all the WFUBCC too. Run free sweet Angel. Kendra and her mom send their love
  4. has not set their status

  5. Melissa crossed over the rainbow bridge today. She was 11 1/2 years young, and was taken from us by the evil osteo cancer. She is now pain free and running through the heavens with Mandy our other senior. Run free my sweet, and know we will always miss you!
  6. Thank you everyone for your kind words and prayers. You all helped me tremendously Somehow down inside I knew the time would be short, but I just needed to see it to believe it. Melissa made her first GSOD tonight when she tried to roach. But then, when she did stand up, she ran to get her yogurt snack. So, I will watch her for signs that she is telling me it is time. She is getting all the treats she wants, and getting lots of luvins. She is not ready to go away yet, because she even tries to take advantage of me too! The mail was in my one hand, and some pretzels were in the other. She grabbed the mail, took it just out of my reach, and started tearing it up in little pieces. Tear a piece, look to see if she was getting a pretzel. Rip another piece off, look to see if the pretzel was being offered. She made me laugh so hard, she got all but 1 of the pretzels. This was the first time she has ever tried anything destructive manipulative since she walked into the house. Seniors are so special! Thank you again!!
  7. I am trying not to panic or lapse into a pile of screaming and crying. I will wait to do that when I go back to find out some more results in 10 days. But, from the time of starting to limp to needing to make the decision of letting go, can anyone tell me approximately how long of a time frame am I looking at????? The pain pills seem to help Melissa some, but she has not stopped limping while on them. She is on Tramadol now. The area in question is her rt shoulder. I was hoping that at the tender age of 11 1/2, she would be spared the "Big C" and we would deal with whatever happened in her old age as needed. But to get this possible diagnosis where she is going to be in pain is almost unbearable to think about. We just celebrated our first gotcha day in September. I am just looking for some kind of ballpark timeframe so I can begin to deal with this terrible news. Thanks for lending me an ear, and any knowledge help would be appreciated. Sherrie
  8. My senior girl has had arthritis since I adopterd her last year. We give her the glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin everyday. But she is getting more stiff with age. She still runs around like a pup during her morning potty break, then moans and groans when she lays down. She is now 11 1/2 and has regained lots of muscletone for a senior since she came her. I don't want to drug her with pain killers, but do want to make her more comfy. She sleeps on a memory foam bed. And when it is chilly, I always put her nightie on her to sleep. Would it be OK to give her a baby aspirin once a day to help with the arthritis???? Any other ideas to help her out would be greytly appreciated.
  9. Dear Merlin, Hopes youze feels better fastest!!!! Weze is sending all the hopes, prayers, and healing thoughts for youze recobery quickest!! Kendra and Melissa
  10. We will be going on a trip soon, and where we are going mosquitoes will be a big issue. What to recommend for use on my greyt girls so they can be comfortable too? A friend gave me some cedar spray, but I have never used it. Will this work, or will it harm my pups? Any help will be greytfully appreciated!
  11. Indoors, I use Windex to remove the ant trails scent. Ants do not like the windex and will not cross the stuff. Also, Comet sprinkled outside onto the mounds, and raked into the soil a little, will kill the ants. The stuff sticks to the ants, they lick it off themselves, and each other. Dead ants. It doesnt last long, and must be kept up but it eventually gets the better of the hives. We live in Texas where fire ants are a big problem. If it rains, since it is so biodegradable, it is just washed away, reapply. We have traveled extensively, and this method has been listed in the hints in many RV parks around the country.
  12. Gem, don't scare your momma so bad. You wont get any yogurt. Maria, we all have our toes, fingers, pawsies crossed that Gem in going to be fine!! Sending lots of prayers and healing white lite to her that she gets better, and leaves the shrooms alone in the future. Kendra and Melissa
  13. Burpdog, no change in diet. Melissa only does it since its spring and she can lay out in the grass. Digging a tiny hole with her lower teeth. We have only had Melissa for 7 months. But her food is the same as her foster home was feeding. She has not been able to try it for several days now. (Lots of rain and the yard is a lake.) Will see if she goes back when the yard is usable again.
  14. I'll take your word for it that they smell like fritoes. My neighbors think I am crazy enough already that I pamper and play with the pups so. What would they do if they saw me sniffing paws??????? Loony bin for sure???
  15. My senior has started a new bad habit. When she lays in the grass, I thought she was licking her leg, but she was really hiding the small hole she was digging with her lower teeth. We have red clay under the grass, and she was scooping it up from under the grass. Any ideas what she is missing in her diet that she would eat clay dirt? She will be 11 in July. Worried Mom
  16. Feel better sweet Fenway. We both are sending warm wishes to help you get better right away! These are to brighten you day! Kendra and Melissa
  17. Presley and Daisy were the first real hedgeamahogs we ever met. Through your eyes and stories, they became real and forever. Though we never met, we adored them. Daisy may you find comfort in your memories of Presley. She is at peace and many have benefitted from her story. Do not be sad for long, as you will see her again in a very special time and place in the future. Jennifer, may your heart be lifted to know how much, so many, cared for your precious little prickly friend. She will be remembered forever. Rest in peace little Presley, and enjoy all those rainbow meal worms you want! Kendra, Melissa, and their mom, Sherrie

  20. Coby, I never got to meet you in person, but you will always be a bright light in my memory. Run free sweet Coby and may you meet up with my Mandy over the bridge and go for a ride on her sky-houndmobile. There is room for every pup that was loved in this world. Free, Bonnie and Daddy Don, may you find peace in that Coby was a part of you that will never go away. He made your life better by knowing him, and time will ease your heart so you can remember him and all that he gave you! Love does not live or die, it continues on for eternity! Sherrie and Jim, slaves to Kendra, Melissa and loving more than missing, Mandy over the bridge
  21. Does anyone know anything about this type fracture??? We just got a call from the vet's office, but the appt. is not until next week to actually speak to the vet. The office said that they just got the xrays back from the radiologist. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to be a little better informed before we see the vet. Thanks.
  22. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. We let Mandy go this afternoon. Besides possible the TBD, she had a tumor that had not metastasized at the base of her brain. It was pressing on the brain stem causing her throat to be painful and paralyzed. It would only have been a matter of a couple of more days, and she would not have been able to breath through her larynx from the paralysis. We miss her so much. Our hearts are broken. Kendra her 5 year old adopted sister, is hiding in the closet and whining too.
  23. We adopted Amanda in September at the tender age of 11. She had her 12th birthday in March. Tonight, we found out that the vet thinks she needs more specialized care, and we will be transferring her tomorrow morning to Texas A&M for access to more specialized tests and care. We still don't know what is going on, but Mandy has not eaten since Monday, is in pain, and struggling. I don't know all the technical jargon, but they are seeming to settle on a tick born disease (TBD). The blood work (TBD) won't be back for a few more days. And they are giving her lots of supportive care, antiobiotics, IV fluids, and pain meds. It may even be more than 1 issue. None of the bloodwork or xrays show any cancer, or out of the order numbers. Mandy is the sweetest girl, and she does not deserve this illness or to get so bad so fast. Please pray for her. Please, I beg all of you, if you have not tested your pups for TBD yet, get it done now!!!! You could save your pup from a lot of problems early!
