  1. Welcome from Boston. Your new girl is a cutie! Good job reading those books BEFORE you got her (me too!)! Congratulations on your new addition.
  2. What a cutie!! What's she been up to? Seven sounds too old to be just retired. Is she a mamma dog?
  3. I love the first picture where she appears to be smiling! Now, I must now--how does one CATCH a greyhound that has been let loose to run on the beach?? My parents live on an island, and although I don't intend to let my dog run on the beach, I sure wish I could! Did she just stop when she was done and you collected her? I am SO envious!!
  4. Poor, poor, dog. Still no pretty collar... I think that's against the rules.
  5. There were two dogs recently adopted out of my group, Greyhound Welfare, that are Craigie Whistler babies! I found some notice somewhere that he (Craigie Whistler) cost $25,000! Holy Smokes! Good old Slammer, George's daddy, apparently has sperm on ice--hence the 5,000 kids! I was wondering how that dog had time to rest...silly me!
  6. My bad! Thanks for letting me know. See, I'd just say "bone cancer." Live and learn!!!
  7. Claritin D is a different formulation--Claritin is an antihistamine. Claritin D also contains a decongestant. Further to that, this website came up: Veterinary info Of course, it's always a good idea to check with your vet
  8. Just a point-- "osteo" is simply short for "osteoarthritis," which is different from rheumatoid arthritis (a systemic disease that affects the entire body, not just the joints that I don't know if dogs even get). Osteoarthritis, in the most simply and basic and non-doctor terms is deterioration of the joints (can be wear and tear, injury related). There is no condition called "osteo." Susan--arthritis girl!

I lost my darling Kramer in April. He was thrown from a moving car as a malnourished puppy, and I got him from the shelter, and we were only apart once in 12 years (family trip to Africa). You did the kind thing and let him go when his time came. The photos you posted are beautiful, and his eyes are shining and that's how you'll be through. By remember the love you gave him, the second chance, and all that he gave to YOU. You made me cry, dang it!!!
  10. George has elevated creatinine, even for a grey. Repeated urine samples show no sign of any problems with his kidneys, so we're just going to monitor that level, and assume it's normal for HIM. My vet won't do a dental on any cat or dog without giving them antibiotics starting a few days in advance. Standard procedure. Better safe than sorry, eh? George would send a woof to your guys, but he seems to have given up barking!!!!!!
  11. Do they have this treatment for PEOPLE??? I have arthritis...
  12. Let me start with I'm not married-- But if your husband really isn't interested, why would you do it? Sounds like you have plenty to deal with already. There are several "threads" in the "behavior and training" section where the wife REALLY wanted the greyhound, and the husband did not, and things are not going so well. Just proceed slowly! As to space, I have an 805 square foot condo, two cats (had three) and my greyhound. He doesn't take up much space, although is dog bed is pretty darn big! He is much less of a presence than my old dog was. My old dog was slightly shorter, but MUCH more "in your face." Greyhounds sleep a LOT. Good luck with your decision!!
  13. What a darling series of photos! Welcome home Wally! Protector of Gracie! Good boy.
  14. What a hunk! My father's name is Richard.
  15. Who are you?? I've been on several Greyhound Adventures walks. I tried to look at Aero on the greyhound data thingy, but there's no PICTURE (you really should do something about that!). Have we met??? You kind of can't miss me. I have a semi uncontrollable laugh...and a dog who insists on being at the head of the pack! Susan
  16. That is SO funny!!! I'm glad it doesn't cost me $450 to have MY teeth cleaned! That's how much I paid to have HIS teeth cleaned! And they're still brown from the track!!! Luckily he finds having his teefers brushed amusing.... I have a new name on GT--it hurt really badly having people compliment "Kramer" and his good looks since he is gone, so nice Jeff changed me from KramersMom to JumpingGeorge! Cool beans, eh?
  17. When you said the part about meeting your husband and he didn't want dog so you waited, I thought you meant on the husband (which is what I would have done)! Weren't you a patient girl! I'm glad to hear he's on board now. Hobbes is a beauty!
  18. Filbert!!! How adorable! Welcome! I had three cats when I got my Grey, and all is well (one suddenly died, so now it's just the two cats). Outside cats are fair game, but he's great with the indoor kitties.
  19. No naming the dog after a CAR!! And not even a GOOD car! Bella is extremely common (at least in New England). Your beautiful girl deserves something more elegant IMHO! Good luck and welcome! Oh my goodness- Lola is seriously in our top three for names right now! Isn't that weird? The contenders for name right now are Lola, Bella, or Jetta. But the list keeps getting bigger instead of smaller.
  20. "Slammer" sired over 5,000 pups. Can't swing a cat without finding a relative!!
  21. Oh dear! Kramer WAS a handsome pup--but he died in April! That's GEORGE!! I got my Greytalk username before Kramer died. Susan
  22. Still learning how this board works! I thought you could only add pictures in "Cute and Funny," but I guess you can only use the "upload" feature there, and you have to have a URL to a picture here! So...I got one!! Here we are! See how we both have our mouths open...a lot! Thanks for all the nice welcome message!
  23. Great pictures Rally! Why do all you computer guys drink Coke????? Huh? George wants to know! Now, everyone, tell Rally to buy that beauty a pretty collar!
  24. He does NOT have a UTI! I thought I'd lead with that, since the obvious possiblity is that he does--but he's been the subject of many a vet visit and all sorts of pees and poos and blood tests have been done! In brief, George had taken to peeing occasionally in the house after being sprung from the crate. Returning him to the crate was not/is not an option due to his HOWLING in the crate! We hired a dog walker, we got the belly band, and after a while ditched the dog walker. He only peed in the band twice. He then went an entire month (at least) with no accidents in the band, so I finally took it off. He went at least two weeks completely dry, but today when I got home, lo and behold, pee on the carpet. Not a lot, but absolutely George pee. Nothing really changed today, but I did shut off the TV on my way out. I've done that twice before, and no problem. Any ideas what might have caused this? Just a blip on the radar? I plan to put the band back on (by the way, you slip a Poise incontinence pad in that bad boy, and you are good to go!) and of course leave the TV on (although I have my doubts that was an issue). I'm disappointed. I thought we were over this hump! Any ideas??? Thanks!!
