I have a female 18 mo who is AKC so she is not spayed. She has come into heat for the first time and I am having trouble with diapers. They don’t fit well. LOL. I have no experience with this as my other greys have been racers. I know that my male had a hand made belly band. Anything like that for females?

I’m going with a harness. She just reacted to a lone person walking the block. That isn’t what I want for her so for my piece of mind I am just getting one. My confidence will be better if I have control. I have been looking at the 2hounds. She’s been wearing the velvet house collar so I don’t anticipate it rubbing. Great advice here. 🙂

The first time it was on a leash. Second time the owner just had it loose in the yard.

Just looking at the graphic I see her collar is too loose. My other two were soooo chill. Didn’t even worry about them slipping the lead. I may try a thinner martingale or the fishtail. My confidence is high when going next to “scary” things. Just not when she’s slipping the lead. I need to get a handle on this. The closing garage door freaked her out tonight. I don’t want her her learning to fear random things. And thanks for the great advice!

Do I need a special harness for a greyhound? I have an 11 month old and the neighborhood dog lunged at her twice. Now she’s afraid of other dogs and she’s like Houdini when it comes to slipping her martingale. I think she picked up on my fear- not of the dog but of her getting loose. I want to have better control the next time we meet another dog.

I had aggression issues with my Darla when I got her. Unfortunately she never liked kids. So my kids and their friends were always instructed to ignore her. She was also not allowed on the furniture because she considered herself above my kids. I had the kids feed her but she never did get where she would choose their company. I really struggled with that at first, and whether to return her or not. Eventually both she and the kids realized she was just my girl; a one-person-dog. She definitely became my heart dog.

My 12 year old girl has an extremely swollen leg from toes all the up to the hip joint. She has been to the vet and had x-rays done with no luck in finding anything. She is on pain meds and two types of antibiotic just in case it is an infection.She drags the leg around behind her. She cannot lift it up. We just built our house and the yard is not fenced yet, so any outside time is spent with us, so no unknown bites could have occurred. To add to the problem, she has Sundowners or the beginning of doggie dementia. She is fairly ok during the day but the minute the sun goes down, and we settle down for the night, she pants and whines most of the night. (Not much sleep gotten by any of us here!) She still eats great and goes out to the bathroom with a little help. Any experience with this? Our vet is just left scratching his head.

Wow! After some inclined feeding of chicken and rice balls with pumpkin and laying off all meds for the time being, my boy has shown some improvement. He is eating without regurging and no diarrhea for now. Not going to get too excited at this point but he went from death bed to death's door to death's front porch.

We were feeding him upright. Putting an ottoman in front of him and propping his food and him up on it. So he now has diarrhea and is not interested in eating. Could be from his meds. This is going downhill fast.

I have learned that it is regurging. Everything is coming back.

He had an x ray. The esophagus is huge. The pharmacy that mixes up the meds is closed for the weekend. He is miserable. And MnMDogs, I was not successful at messaging you. I may not know what I am doing but it won't go through.

So my old man that was throwing up has gotten a diagnosis of mega esophagus. Been doing some reading and doesn't sound good. Anyone have any experience with this? And some good news? We do have a pharmacy here that will mix some meds for him, but it still doesn't sound good. :-(

So my 11 year old boy has been throwing up spit and phlegm and is on Prilosec and some anti vomiting meds. We went out of town and now he cannot keep water or food down. AT ALL. I managed to get some of his meds in with a tablespoon of applesauce. He has managed to keep that down. I am giving him small amounts of water, which he seems to be tolerating. We have an appointment this afternoon for an x-ray. Vet seems to think its his esophagus. Not sure about that since everything is coming back. Any advice on what else I can feed him and how to get him rehydrated??? He is a delicate old man. He was a medical dog before we got him and deserves to be comfy in his old age!!

Worms would make sense. He came to us with worms, but we had that treated. He is on Iverhart Plus. Wouldn't that take care of worms?

Okay, I am used to greyhound gas, but now we have a case of make you leave the living room, wake you up in the middle of the night gas! No food changes, no stress, and no distress for the gasser. Is there anything you can give to give the humans in the room some relief????

Nope, four years later, still the occasional gas-mask requiring gas. Especially when you are on the receiving end of the couch and she is dead to the world, running races in her dreams...

Come to think of it, the vet did say he was concerned about the lack of undigested food in her poop. Does the vet have to prescribe pancreatic enzymes??

We went to the vet this summer. Ran the screening for pancreatitis and it came up negative. He gave us some antibiotics and things were fine. He thought it might be my food (I feed Canidae) and wanted me to switch to Iams. I didn't. Another flare up. Everything else seems normal, frequency is the same, just a little soft and yellowish. Anybody relate????

I am so sorry for your loss.

I just went through the same thing with my dog last November. He had kidney failure and we adjusted his diet and other things. He did great for a while, but you just can't stop something like that. I said I would never have him put to sleep, but that changed when I saw how fast he was going down. After I made the decision, I felt much better, because I felt like I had freed him from how bad his life had gotten. I still miss him terribly, though. If it comes to having to make the decision, don't feel guilty. It is something you do out of love and it is something you give a lot of thought to. When it is time, you just know. Good luck.
