  1. Thanks, Max is special and a sweet gentleman, we are hoping for many more years too!
  2. I guess I will be the second person who says she should go back, I agree 100% with GeorgeofNE. It does sound like these are huge warning signals to me. We adopted a sweet girl last year who was a return from a family who were doing some type of care for troubled children, don't know full details but it was assumed that she is fine with kids....they were having a baby, moving, blah, blah, anyway, she is petrified of kids, pulls away, tries to get out of her collar and run, especially if they are on bikes, scooters, it is clear to me that something happened there in that home. I walk her away from kids playing and never subject her to being pet even if parents ask permission, her safety and happiness are my priority. Greyhounds all have different personalities but generally respecting their boundaries is most important, they communicate with us, tail wagging, chattering, growling, its up to us to be educated enough to know what they are saying
  3. Thanks again, when looking @ your post in May on Fiona, I saw a striking resemblance and thought she was so beautiful, the female twin of Max, you must miss her terribly He is my first Grey and dog for that matter, the one who started my love for the Breed. For his age he is healthy and has all his teeth and they are relatively white too, Vet comments on that every time we see him, we are not expecting any extractions, just cleaning. We have had the discussion of Amicar, and no extractions are planned, the last 3 dentals have gone well, he still has all his teeth and I brush regularly so hoping he does fine.
  4. Sending good thoughts for Greta, hoping its nothing serious and that the fireworks stop soon too.
  5. Great update, Max's Bloodwork is all back within normal range and we have scheduled his Dental for next Tues, July 1st!!!!! We are so relieved!!! So it must have been his vomiting that morning that set his enzymes off and mottled Spleen may be just his age and not the big "C" after all.Could not figure out how to edit original post. Thanks again for all your prayers and good thoughts, it really helped. I know I will be worried next week the day of his Dental but for today we are so very happy
  6. Thanks for all the well wishes and sharing your stories of successful Spelenectomy's I am hanging onto what tbhounds said about Senior Greys having mottled Spleens, results tomorrow, will update when I hear from Doc
  7. My sweet Max who is a few months shy of turning 12 went in for a dental 2 weeks ago, an hour after dropping him off, I got a call that his blood work was off and that his liver enzymes were elevated , he had been vomiting that morning which I spoke to Doc about and seemed not himself. So, his bloodwork a few months back was normal, of course we did not proceed with Dental, and we scheduled an ultrasound the next day. The ultrasound showed that his liver was ok, Gallbladder ok, but Spleen looks "Mottled". Vets are husband and wife team that have been treating Max since I got him @ 2 years old and I trust them. I had him on Metacam for those last 2 weeks so she suggested we take him off(they were for mild arthritis in back end). and that we do another Chem panel in 2 weeks which was today...so now we are awaiting those results as Doc wanted to send them out instead of doing in-house. We talked about doing a Laprascopic biopsy 2 weeks ago but it cannot be done in my Vets office, it has to be done elsewhere which frightens me and removing a Spleen on a Greyhound his size (80 lbs) @ his age frightens me too. Trying to keep this in today and not project, he is happy today and was roaching 2 days ago, still walking 2 times a day most days and eating well, he is slowing down, he is a Senior but not wanting to think he could be sick...Will have results on Monday, prayers and good thoughts are welcome.
  8. OMG, just seeing this, Kerry, so glad to hear that Merlin is on the mend, what a terrifying experience!! Max has had 2 Vestibular events this past year and they were so scary, hang in there, have missed you on GT.

  13. Jenn, I am so very sorry, I know you gave Tori the best life, she was beautiful, my thoughts are with you and your family
  14. Jenn, sending along hugs for your sweet girl, it is horrible to watch there bodies age while there minds are still sharp.
  15. No words are adequate, hugs to you, so very sorry, will also miss his stories.
  16. Late to this thread but wanted to add my experience w/Max who is approaching 12, he likes also to eat later in the day too, he likes to potty in the yard and then we walk @ a park. I add all his favorites too, chicken, fish, chicken livers, and now I feed @ 11 then @ 4 0r 5, then a little @ 7, smaller amounts. I do whatever works for him, snacks, he is not on any meds other than occasional Metacam when I see him getting up slower from laying down, this winter is taking its toll on his aging body. His walks are shorter and some days he statues in the middle of the road, gotta love Seniors
  17. I am so sorry, how heartbreaking, as others have said, please be kind to yourself, you did what you thought best and Dylan knew this my prayers are with you,
  18. Had this same procedure done for my Max almost 2 years ago, he had been on the eye drop antibiotics for some time and then a mild scraping in Vets office and then we went to a Opthamologist for the Grid Keratotomy, mild sedation in eye to numb it and tramadol too, cone afterwards with a contact lens to protect for 10 days and it healed completely.
  19. Just seeing this, Jordan sent to me. When Sara was diagnosed in 2007, we had an MRI and spinal which revealed multi-focal GME, meaning she had several areas of her brain and spinal column with inflammation. She had seizures, was ataxic, swaying, could not stand without falling over, a severe case. They started her on Prednisone, 2 different antibiotics(before they ruled out other infections), Pepcid, Carafate for stomach. After 3 days in ICU we took her home and she had a cluster of seizures, we took her back while in the midst of her seizures and the next day the Neurologist put her on Cytarabine which is a chemo drug used for Leukemia, she was given a 50% chance of survival, it was given by IV and the next day when the Vet was making rounds, she was standing in her cage which she had not been able to do. She was being rolled out on a table to go potty hours before, it was truly miraculous. After a week in ICU, she came home and for the next 10 months, she had Chemo(Cytarabine)every 2 weeks, then every 3 weeks, 4 injections within 48 hours each time, Prednisone, Pepcid, Carafate. Along with this was blood work every 2 weeks to check her white cell count and her kidneys and liver as these drugs can cause damage. She needed to be taught stairs again and we used a harness for the 1st 4 weeks. Sara lived another 5 years, symptom free, ran and walked and played, never had a relapse as all the articles I read said would happen, GME is not curable but can be pushed into remission like cancer. Sara died 4/13/12 of Hemangio Sarcoma, an inoperable tumor was found in her spine, she was almost 11 years old. Glad to see Zephyr is still doing great, it is really scary and very few cases are success stories, hope this information helps for your friends Yorkie. Also got to meet Dr Couto @ an event and shared my story of Sara w/him, he said that he had been using Cytarabine(drug they used on Sara) for 20 years and people thought he was crazy using a Leukemia drug on dogs but he said he had great success w/it and limited side effects.
