  1. I'm so sorry, beautiful tribute, she did have the very best home in her last 14 months, you gave her love and Seamie loved and accepted her, truly the best we can hope for.
  2. Congrats to you, Abbey is so pretty and I love her heart shaped spot!
  3. I'm so very sorry, your tribute was just beautiful
  4. Welcome and congratulations from NH!
  5. These look like a great idea, do you cook them before freezing them?
  6. I am in the same boat, Max lost 7lbs since his Dental in July, he is less than race weight now and he is a big boy @ 31.5 inches tall and very long, bony and lanky. Sending hugs to you and Franny, it is hard to watch them age and lose Muscle Mass. I had Max on Metacam(Meloxicam) for Arthritis in his back end, problems getting into van, he fell two times. It helped his back end but he did not want to eat...so took him off of it completely, husband built a step to get in Van and I feed 3 times a day. He has gained back a few pounds, I add lean meat to every meal, lots of chicken boiled, lean burger, I make gravy from broth, chicken livers. He still walks twice daily and runs the back yard, I keep walks very short for him 10 min, just enough to keep his mobility, he will be 12 on Columbus Day.
  7. Once he is in that pattern of licking, hard to stop them. The cause now could be a skin infection from him licking, biting. We just went through this with my 2 hounds, started with a flea bite, they were off Frontline for 2 months( 1 sensitive to it and the other Senior and sensitive to anything topical) but...my cat brought them in here, sleeping in their beds, now I dosed cat and Max and Flower. They needed 2 weeks of Cephalexin to treat skin infection and then she also prescribed Apoquel, a new drug that works wonders for skin issues, hard to get it, $2 a pill but it worked wonders for my 2, they stopped licking within 24 hours, no side effects either. Maybe Vet needs to see Mr. Spock him to check that skin out?
  8. Glad to hear that Harvey is bouncing back from his attack. Lots of Greyhounds have a negative reaction to Tramadol, nervous, anxiety, pacing, maybe Harvey is one of them, Flower had bad reaction and stayed up 24 hours, we had her put on Gabapentin instead. My girl Flower was attacked by a German Shepard in our neighborhood and she is hesitant a year later to walk by that house. It was random, they have a Down Syndrome child who let the dog out front door at exactly the moment we walked by and I was even more traumatized than her emotionally. Flower wore 2 tube cones for over a month to keep her from licking, biting, pajamas to cover and protect her stitches, lots of fun there, her stitches were removed 2 weeks after attack and within an hour we were back getting re-stitched, they opened up, she also had necrotic tissue that needed to be removed, it was in corner of huge L shaped wound. Hoping Harvey, your neighbor and Emmie have an easier time getting past this incident. We continued to walk every day twice as always and get on like it hadn't happened. Roaching is a great sign!!!
  9. I am so very sorry and truly heart broken for you. This has been such a horrible ordeal for Frappy and you, my thoughts and prayers are with you today. You did everything possible for her recovery and sometimes we have to let them go when there is no other alternative. Praying for a peaceful passing for Frappy, Sara will greet her there along with many other Angels, run free Frappy, pain free
  10. Congratulations!!! They are both so handsome!! That is a small space for 2 males, my Max used to snark @ my girl Sara in a much larger space, LOL, I now have a Toyota Van without any back seats for my 2. They sell shapes that fit on floor and are level with seats to extend area for dog, maybe Google "seat protectors dogs" and this item will be there.
  11. Oh no, poor Frappy and poor you, very hard to see them go through such difficulties, hoping they can get her leg infection under control, how scary on top of everything else! I have only posted photos from Photobucket and I am lousy @ it, maybe someone else can chime in on how to do it? I am keeping you and Frappy in my prayers :hope
  12. Wow, was off GT for last couple weeks and so much happened here. I am glad that Frappy is headed in the right direction with the Encephalitis but so sorry she now has the other complication! Just wanted to add my comments on all the side effects of the drugs. Sara was in ICU for a week where they administered her chemo drug(Cytarabine) through an IV to get it in quicker, the inflammation in her brain was huge and in multiple places, her MRI showed Neurologist that and they showed me her films. She barely ate for them there but I would cook for her and bring it in and hand feed. The Cytarabine injections were given by my regular Vet, I picked up dry drug and brought it to Vets to be mixed, she got 4 injections over 48 hours every 2 weeks, so 7AM and 7 PM. The chemo drugs did not have side effects like the Prednisone, Phenobarb, she was released from ICU with Carafate and Flagyl to help stomach and diarrhea and she could walk on her own, a little wobbly @ 1st and I had to re-teach her stairs, everything had to be carpeted as she had fallen down my deck stairs at the onset of her disease and I used a harness for stablility. I want to offer you some hope that it will get better , Sara needed to be held up and hand fed at the onset and within 2 weeks, she was running in the backyard again. She got to eat in her bed because of her head tremors and that became the norm, the Vets came out to my car to give her chemo injections on her tired days. Although we kept her on the drugs a year long, she lived a normal life for 5 more years before she lost the battle to Hemangio Sarcoma in 4/12. She went to Dewey Beach for 3 years in a row, a very long ride from NH and lived life to its fullest every day. She used to steal food from Max(my big boy) when she was on Prednisone, loved eating despite all the drugs coursing through her body. Hang in there, feel free to PM me too, wished I had blogged about it but it still is fresh in my head, probably never forget that time in my life

    Moxie

I am so very sorry, it is unfair as unfair gets, hold onto those happy moments you gave Moxie this past year :grouphug
  14. No Neurologist can actually give a firm diagnosis without doing a biopsy of Brain and they won't do that and you would not want that, they can call it Inflammatory Brain disease, Meningitis, etc and with Sara they said "most likely" GME and treated as such to reduce Inflammation in brain, she was in ICU for a week and did not start walking without the Cytarabine injection, she was being wheeled out on a cart to go potty and held up by a harness. Hoping Frappy continues to do better, maybe you can bring special food for her and hand feed, I did that w/Sara, she would not eat what they gave her and got so skinny but gobbled hamburger, lunch meats, cheese. Sending prayers and hugs for Frappy and you.
  15. My girl Sara had GME, Granulomatous Meningitis Encephalitis, she had the MRI and Spinal tap to diagnose, and had several(multifocal) areas of her brain and spine with inflammation, could not walk, seizures, looked like she was drunk, only given 50% chance of survival. We did a year of chemo meds(cytarabine) every 2 weeks, 4 injections 12 hours apart, phenobarbital, prednisone, Pepcid. She lived another 5 years fully recovered or in remission till the age of almost 11 years. I know how scary this is and just want to offer you some hope, try not to read stuff online, I know easier said than done, there aren't a lot of positive outcomes documented. I think Zephyr and my Sara lived the longest with this disease, without the Cytarabine(Leukemia drug), Sara would have died, we tried treating with just Prednsione to start, no effect and she had cluster seizures falling down steps and almost dying. Ask the Neurologist about Intravenous Cytarabine to get it into Frappy quickly. :grouphug
  16. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery for Toby. My Max had a stubborn corneal ulcer that wouldn't heal w/drops, we ended up having a Keratotomy and luckily that healed it.
  17. I am so very sorry, I will so miss his adventures :grouphug
  18. Glad to hear that Leia is eating, that is a good sign! I too am struggling with my Max who will be 12 on Columbus Day, I cook many concoctions and give him different things daily, cooked chicken, steak, burger, chicken pie, canned food, Blue Wilderness, Merricks chicken pot pie, Rotisserie chicken, yogurt, pasta, salmon, he will still eat dry food but it must have many add ins, I don't give up trying to get 2 meals a day into him, sometimes he won't eat till later day or night, it is frustrating, he is getting really bony. Hoping Leia continues eating, hugs to her
  19. My heart goes out to you and Lola . Like many others have said, timeframe to adopt again or foster is so individual as the grief process is unique to each person and their surviving Hound. When Sara passed on we were already in a difficult situation here, my husband had taken a job just 2 weeks before in another state and we were dealing with him being gone. Max was already confused about "Daddy" being gone and now Sara had to be PTS after being diagnosed w/Hemangio, an inoperable tumor in her spine. Max would take a snack and bring it to her bed and leave it there, he would not sleep upstairs where Sara used to sleep, he stayed downstairs, waiting, waiting for my Husband and Sara, it was heartbreaking to watch. We tried to Foster w/intent 2 months later, Max had just gotten over surgery for a scratched cornea and was starting to feel better but the female we tried was too young and not cat safe, I cried all day after she left making me realize that we were not ready to welcome a new girl yet. Max handled her loss better than I did, it took over a year for me to find a good match for us, I lost my Mom that same year and my oldest cat, Grief can be so painfully overwhelming. Flower joined us 13 months later and Max liked her instantly and ran with her that first day in the yard, Sara and my Mom sent this perfect girl to us. Give yourself time, you will know when its time to welcome a new friend for Lola.
  20. Shannon, your tribute was just beautiful and fitting for Argos. I too remember his story and how long you waited to bring him to the U.S., it inspired me to donate and think of bringing a Galgo home too some day...You gave him the best life possible, filled w/love and respect for who he was and where he came from, you were his angel on earth, now he is pain free and running with all those perfect souls at the Rainbow Bridge. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
  21. Diane, Sara was on Pheno for the entire year that she was treated for GME, she had a cluster right before being put on them and never again while on the meds, her Brain inflammation is what caused them, once we were done with her chemo treatments, we weaned off Pheno and Pred too, never had another seizure. I would suggest that he gets seen by a Neurologist and have them assess whether he should be weaned off or if there is an underlying cause to them.
  22. I am so very sorry to see Paul's name here, the Tribute so beautiful and so fitting for a special, handsome boy
  23. Been offline a few days and just seeing this, my prayers are with you, such a difficult decision, hoping for the best whatever it may be
