  1. 9 hours in a crate...in my opinión, that's far too long. I have been a member of GT for many years and I have a look here from time to time. Unfortunatly it seems that the long-term crating is still done. Why don't you walk your Grey before going to work and then leave him free roam in the house? He surely will choose a comfortable place of his choice to sleep for some hours. He will get up after a while, change maybe his position, drink a bit and lay down at another place. To be confined to a tiny box for so many hours...that must be very hard for the dog. Give your hound the choice to behave well, leaving him free roam...
  2. I think, I would not increase her pain meds too fast, as a 'little bit of moderate pain' might prevent her from doing too much exercise. If you see her still being her normal self and so far happy, I agree with Normaandburrell to wait a bit... I hope she still has some quality time left with you... Greetings, Marion
  3. I've never ever heard about viulvoplastic surgery on hounds...I hope she'll never need it and her little hoo-hoo problems get resolved... Greetings, Marion
  4. Thanks again, I'll send her an article about EPI. It was anyqay the first thing we all thought, but the vet told her, that there were no obvoius signs in the stool simple, which was very complete. I'm sure, the dog must have EPI... Greetings, Marion
  5. Thanks for all your replies...I'll give all your info to my sister...I don't know if they did the TLI test, but my sister told me that vet excluded pancreatic insufficiency by the results. She'll visit more vets an run more panels...the SIBO theory could be as well...we'll see... Greetings, Marion
  6. Yes, they do, and I think that will be the second option, if Metronidazol doesn't work.
  7. Hi all, I write this post for my sister, who lives in Germany and she's desperate. She got an 11 months old GSD from a bad breeder, and since she has had the GSD (long haired) he has diarrea one day more, one day less. He poops into the house despite 4 walks per day, and she's at the end with her nervs. His stools are yellowish and the dog is loosing weight, is terribly hungry and very nervous. The vet has done a complete stool analysis and found out that the dog is heavily infected with Giardia. Now the dog has taken for 14 days Metronidazol and instead of getting better it gets even worse, now his diarrea is permanent and yellow. Tomorrow she has to give a new stool sample. I told her to get another opinión from another vet, and she'll do that in the next days. My sister was initially afraid of the dog suffering from a pancreatic insufficiency, but the analysis didn't show up signs of pancreatic insufficiency, which is common in German Shepherd Dogs. Did anybody have a serious guardia problema, that didn't stop with Metronidazol? Greetings to all, Marion
  8. My Greyhound 'Ivy' broke his leg when chasing a rabbit in a very hilly área. I waited a few days thinking that it would just be a little traumatism without importance, but when I saw that it didn't disappear, i took him to the vet and X-rays showd a clean break. He wore a cast-like bandage for 4 weeks and another fixed bandage after that time for 3 weeks and his leg healed 100%. No more limping ever and full ability to run full speed as always.
  9. Thanks for your replies! Frontline doesn't work anymore. I might try Comfortis... Greetings to all, Marion
  10. Does anybody have experiences with COMFORTIS? My vet recommended this orally taken pill against fleas but I read that it can cause quite a few disagreable side effects.
  11. Hugs and best wishes for Morty coming his way from Spain...many Greetings to you Erika, Marion
  12. I would try to introduce your hound to that other Greyhound a few days before the event and take him with you. 12 Hours alone is too much for any dog in my opinión. Belly band would complicate things even more...
  13. I hope you get the problem solved son. I'm quite convinced too, that the problem has something to do with the flat. How about the breed Magyar Agar? I've never known any hound of this breed. Are they similar to Greyhounds concerning the charácter etc? They look a bit stronger, are they as sensitive as Greys?
  14. My beloved bridge kid Ivy-Blue did this sometimes. It was due to some kind of allergy and without any importance...
  15. Sending healing thoughts for your precious little friend from Spain...he's so darn adorable! By the way, the pics are gorgious and you are as pretty as always...luck for you both! Greetings, Marion
  16. I'm very sorry that you had so bad luck with your Grey...10 times a day hoping for pee or poop, that must be frustrating. I'm at the end with my advice then...I hope that you get the problem settled.
  17. First of all, it's important, that the dog gets used to a fixed schedule of walking and feeding times. A dog's digestion uses to take more or less 11 hours. So if you feed for example at 8 o'clock in the evening, the dog is ready to 'empty out' at 7h in the morning. If the dog has no digestive health issues, he can 'hold' it for a while after 7h in the morning. My Greys got their morning walk and another good walk in the afternoon...no problems with pee or poop, except when they had soft-stool issues. They could pee in the garden whenever they wanted, but preferred to distribute their pee during the walks. Normally dogs don't like to soil their territory...if they do so something goes wrong.
  18. How much exercise does your Grey get? I think it's very important to give your dog a good walk with some free run before leaving the house...an exercised dog is a calm dog at home. That had worked always for my hounds. I never ever crated any of my dogs...no need. Just some good exercise before leaving and leave him the run of the house. He' ll go to sleep to a place of HIS choice. I think it's pretty normal, that many dogs get stressed and unhappy when forced into that tiny box in order to stay in there for long hours hardly being able to move or even turn around. Have luck...with good exercise before leaving and left free he'll get used to being alone. Dogs need a fixed schedule of exercise, meals and sleeping times and they adapt very well...
  19. Traumeel belongs to those meds, which I always have at home. I used it on my Greys with great success and for myself every now and then when I need it. I can always recommend it...it's one of the best homeopathic remedies I know.
  20. Why did the vets extract so many teeth? It must hurt like hell and I think it's normal, that the dog whines of the pain in his mouth. I'm sorry that you have to go through this and I hope that pain meds do their trick soon...
  21. Oh I remember you very well too...I'm so sorry for your losses of Whistler and Nelly...time passes so fast. It seems an eternity to me when I still enjoyed the company of my beloved Ivy an Soldi... Have luck and greetings, Marion
  22. I used Frontline with my Greys 'Ivy' and 'Soldi' who passed away some years ago. Initially it did work but over the years the protective effect diminished. My new rescue Husky-Podenco Mix does not need any flea protection as she seems to be immune against them. I have had her for 2 years now and never ever I saw a flea on her. I think fleas would get desperate trying to get through her extremely thick coat. Even when I picked her up at the miserable place where she used to live, she was full of ticks but not any flea. So right now she only gets a tick collar and that's it. Frontline over here is not any more considered a secure flea protection.
  23. My hounds died at home BUT the vet came here and had to put them to sleep. My Greys died on my bed. My other hounds died at home too...the vet came to our house each time...
  24. That happened to my hounds quite often, that they lost toenails. I used to desinfect with homeopathic calendula mother tincture diluted in water and bandaged it for a day or two. After that time I just left it alone and it healed always perfectly... have luck, Marion
  25. I voted 'yes' as my beloved bridge kid 'Ivy' had that cute chin quiver behaviour, especially when smelling an attractive female pee...
