  1. I call Zuni's neck baldness "foster therapaw."
  2. Zuni had sleep accidents even before she was age 3. I took her to a very savy vet who said it was either spay incontinence or it was happening as a result of her cycle being supressed while racing. She was given DES (synthetic estrogen), which was effective in dealing with the problem, however I was giving as much as a pill every 3 days. After about 8 or 9 months they really decreasing and I slowly eliminated the pills. So i'm pretty sure it was the second option. She has no accidents anymore. Do a search on here for spay incontinence, there are some people who know what they are talking about who portray DES as very safe. It's given at a much, much lower dose than to humans. Also, everything i've read states that the human risk with the DES is in the offspring of people who took the drug. Wouldn't that not be an issue with a spayed dog? Maybe that's a stupid queston...
  3. I really like Wyoming, but it's technically not even a state. It doesn't have the 500,000 population required that territories were required to have to become states. You see a lot of exits off the highway that say ranch rd 23, 24, 25...
  4. There are a lot of neighborhoods on livebaltimore that don't have profiles--most of the nice places do, and places you want to avoid, don't. Check out the list of neighborhoods for East Baltimore (if you search by map) and you won't see a lot of clickable names. That's how they seem positive about all the neighborhoods, they emphasise the good ones. Also, the truth is, there are a lot of nice areas of Baltimore. You don't see them on TV because all the shows in Baltimore are cops shows, but they are out there. If you want something more-- A searchable map of actual reported crimes for addresses and neighborhoods I live on the East Side, in Greektown. It's close to Patterson Park, where Zuni and I walk sometimes. It's completely a dog's park (but not a fenced-in dog park, mind you). I'm disappointed if we don't see another grey when walking there. I do go out of the city to go to the vet--Dr. Rodney in Fallson--on the border between Baltimore and Harford Counties. I got the recommendation off the list here, and I think it's worth it to travel a little farther for a vet I like and can trust. Dr. Rodney is one of the the GPA vets mentioned above (I believe) and does adoption out her office. I've gone a couple of times and people have been meeting hounds in the lobby. I'm also with Greyhound Welfare--I adopted Zuni from them and I just started fostering too. They started in the DC suburbs, but there is good representation in Baltimore and we have a M+G up here almost every weekend.
  5. I think I was formally inducted into the bonnie fan club last night, perhaps (and the treats are a big hit, despite whatever was going on in Zuni's little head in the afternoon--Cosmopolitan the foster loves them too)
  6. He broke his leg badly is only other information i've seen.

Hope you are feeling a little better out there. :f_white
  9. It might be just a little too far for you, but I take Zuni up 95 to Dr. Rodney in Fallston (about 20 minutes north for me from the city). I've only seen her, so I don't know about prices, but she is definitely grey-savy. She adopts greys out of her office--the last time we walked in and there was a grey meeting a potential family. I went to see her from the list of vets here on GT.
  10. They came out a bit dark. I let her unwrap some: Although now when I get out the coat for a walk she wants to chew on it.
  11. We just used the coat on our walk. It's nice and warm.
  12. Thanks Jayne, Tim, and the Pocono Black Pack. I have pictures on my camera from yesterday when we opened the package. I will post them when I get a chance.
  13. Zuni picked out the toys, and was very alarmed when they dissapeared into the package. (Of course she received a nice haul herself).
  14. Here is what the note said: To Mokka, Duffy, Stanley, Ella, and Buddy From Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Enjoy Zuni and Pepperjack (PJ)
  15. Zuni got a hold of the fish food today. A lot of fish food. Already experiencing the gas (she has gas from her current food)--this was a new level. I guess I shouldn't worry too much. I suspect some big d is in my future, though.
  16. Zuni morns for her great aunt The Queen.

    Jasper

My brother's dog Jasper left us this morning just a few short weeks after being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. In my mind he was full grown when he came home to my brother and his family, but the pictures from those days show he still had some growing to do. He always attracted a lot of attention on walks on at the doggie park, and I had not seen a dog that fast or able to leap that high in my life at that point. It had a lot to do with me adopting a greyhound; I wanted a similar dog, but you don't go down to the pound and get an Ibizan Hound. So I started looking at Greyhounds, and it just made a lot of sense. So he did his part, even if just a little bit, in finding a greyhound cousin a home. Once I adopted Zuni, I started calling him 'big head,' since his head was so much bigger than hers. Zuni and I went down to visit a couple of times and they had fun chasing each other around the back yard. It had to have a dream come true to have another dog as fast as he was. He had a life that all dogs would want, my brother works from home so they were together almost constantly. He had at one point his own car (for trips to the doggie park) and his own couch. And he got frequent visits from me, which meant at the very least a W-A-L-K, so naturally he was fond of me. My brother had this to say-- I've been thinking about it and decided Doggie Heaven and Squirrel Hell are probably the same place. Love ya buddy.
  19. Maybe Zuni can show her how to stalk the squirrels instead of chase them. I don't know if that's better, though. Easier on the arm, at least .
