  1. No need to apologize - and I want to say that Dash was never sick when I gave him Dogswell chicken jerky. Only since I bought the "Waggin' Tail" brand have I noticed the symptoms I mentioned. It's frustrating that I/we feel we can no longer trust any type of pet product that comes from China, but I don't. I feel bad for Dash because he absolutely LOVES these things. I feel even worse because the last time he had a bout with this, he wouldn't eat any of his regular food at all. I offered him a couple of pieces of the chicken jerky just to get him to eat something and he ate them! Now I know I believe I was just prolonging his upset.
  2. Dogswell is American. . hormone and antibiotic free. I have some on my website. I'm sorry to tell you, but Dogswell chicken breast treats are also made in China. I have a bag right in front of me and if you check the bottom right corner of the back of the package, it says, "Made in China." I haven't posted here in AGES, but I wanted to share what's been going on with my boy, Dash, in case anyone else has been experiencing the same. He has been experiencing some stomach issues on and off for the past couple of months. Nothing overly serious, but worrying just the same. Complete lack of appetite, horrendous gas (Dash NEVER gets gas) and very loose stools for a couple of days at a time, then fine - appetite returns gas is relieved and stools are normal. He seemed fine in all other ways and didn't show any other signs of illness. I'm not one to rush off to the vet - I typically wait a day or so to see if symptoms subside and in this case they always have. A couple of months ago, I bought a big bag of "Waggin' Train" brand chicken jerky tenders from Walmart. I've been feeding them to Dash here and there, but it hadn't ocurred to me to connect the symptoms to chicken jerky because I've been giving him chicken jerky (usually Dogswell) for about a year without any problem. He had just gotten over another bout of not eating and loose stools a couple of days ago. Ate his breakfast yesterday and and had nice firm poops when I let him out. I gave him a piece of chicken jerky yesterday before I left for work and today, he's thrown up three times and has liquid diarreah. I just happened to see this thread last night and am now convinced that the chicken jerky has been responsible for his stomach upsets over the last couple of months. I'm fasting him today and hopefully this will work its way out of his system. If not we're off to the vet. Needless to say, I won't be feeding him anymore chicken (or anything else, for that matter) from China.
  3. Oh Diane, I'm so terribly sorry! I haven't been online too much the past couple of days and I missed this. I'm so sorry for your profound loss. I just don't know what to say. Keeping you and your family in my prayers. Take care.

    Maddison

Ahh, Bev. I don't often visit this forum, but Maddison's name caught my eye as I was about to sign off of GT. My heart sank and then broke when I realized it was in the Remembrance forum that I saw his name. I'm so sorry for you and Marc. What wonderful, dear, people you both are. You've given so much joy to this board with your photos and the hilarious, sweet, touching, and sometimes heartbreaking stories and antics of your amazing little family. You've shown us all how to handle the most difficult of times with grace and clarity, and even a sense of humor. I, like some of the others, remember, so well, when you joined and shared the homecoming of your beautiful, sweet, funny, boy - Maddison. It's all gone by so fast...too fast. Our hearts are broken with the loss of this most endearing hound. He was one of a kind and he's left his indelible paw prints on those broken hearts. We grieve with you both, but can't help the smile that creeps upon us when we remember this special, special, boy. We celebrate you Maddison. Your time here was far too short, but you made us laugh and smile and you brought joy to everyone you touched across the miles. You will be missed.
  5. Kate, I'm just seeing this - I'm so very sorry.

    Smudge

My little gray parakeet, Smudge, died this morning. We're so sad. He was perfectly fine yesterday and last night, when I covered him for the night. Luke found him on the bottom of the cage this morning, still alive, but not moving. He quickly took him out and called for me. He held him for, not even a minute, and he died in Luke's hands. Poor Luke. He's my 21 year old - a big teddy bear of a guy. If you can believe it, he and Smudge had a very sweet relationship. We got Smudge when he was just a tiny, little, baby. Luke was 14 when we got him and he was our family's first pet. Luke took to him right away and had a big part in hand taming him. Smudge loved Luke. He'd cling to the sides of his cage if Luke was nearby, demanding to be let out. When we'd let Smudge out of the cage, Luke's shoulder is where you'd find him. He'd fly all over the house and sometimes he'd be fresh and not let us catch him. All Luke had to do was whistle or call to him, and he'd go right to him and land on his head or shoulder. As sad as I am, I'm happy that he died in the hands of one he loved and trusted so much. Luke is heartbroken. My house will be so quiet without the sound of his funny, constant, chatter, bells being rung, and toys being played with. Goodbye little sweetie. We loved you and we'll miss you.
