  1. Oh she looks so much like my very first baby, Brindle. So bright eyed. I'm glad she's improving, looking for more updates today.
  2. She looks SO happy. And while your hearts are broken, her last days were incredible.
  3. My heart just fell when I saw his name here. Another greyt hound has left for the Bridge. I'm so sorry Donna.
  4. Please give Seth my utmost sincere condolences to the loss of his sweet Arrow.
  5. I see you're in NJ. If he needs a dental and not just a cleaning go to Dr Fiorito at Brick Vets in Brick, NJ. Yes, it's 2+ hrs for you, but she's one of the top dentists around. The cardiologist who took care of my Pearl recommended her when Pearl who really shouldn't go under anesthesia needed a dental because of an abscess. Also my 15.5 yr really REALLY needed a dental. Both went to Fiorito. (but be prepared to pay....they do take Care Credit) She's a bit aggressive when it comes to removing teeth, but then....you won't have borderline teeth needing to come out in another 6 months. If you want just a good cleaning, Houndstooth in California comes out regularly to clean teeth. I take my girls to them twice a year. And I am very bad at brushing teeth regularly, and my girls teeth are terrific.
  6. What?! OMG I come on to check how she's doing and I read this. I'm so so very sorry. Having lost a senior after 18 days I do know how you feel. She was a very special girl.
  7. RUN! I had VPI for 13 yrs. I dropped them for Tanzi and Emma (Opal is 9 and will have too many exclusions if I switch now, so she's stuck staying) Go to Healthy Paws, Embrace or Trupanion. (I went Healthy Paws)
  8. He was a Hansome Debbil. And I know what you mean about jinxed. Every time a picture of one of my babies was accepted by the CG calendar or magazine, I lost them 5 months before they actually showed up.
  9. I still miss my heartgirl and she's been gone 3 yrs. If you don't feel ready yet, maybe you can foster. At least there will be a head to pet or a toy to toss.
  10. The picture isn't clear enough. But if it looks like a blood blister, go to the vets. My Opal just had what looked like a simple blood blister removed, it was dermal hemagiosarcoma. (the 'shine, wet' doesn't sound like a bug bit)
  11. While it is your preference here's my story. I got chickens in the spring, two of my three dogs got into the chicken bin (sans chicks) and ate chicken food, chicken poo and wood shavings. That vet bill total was $3000. Just 2 weeks later, two of the three (same two!) had growths that needed to be seen. $150 total, because one had an aspirate. 3 weeks later, one of them went to have her growth removed because it was growing. Another $350. It came back malignant. So I had an ultrasound done to rule out metastisis vs dermal cancer. Another $330. Same girl is now limping. She's going for xrays tonight. probably another $200. I DO have insurance. I still have about $1000 out of pocket but I couldn't handle this whole thing. The ages of my girls are 3, 5 and 9. I got insurance back in 2000 because my 5 yr old died of liver disease and just trying to find a diagnosis cost $3000. My 6 yr old got sick the next month, another $1000. She had a bruise 4 months later that was cancer suspect. Another $1000. She was hospitalized 2 months later for almost 2 weeks for a spontaneous pneumothorax and ensuing surgery. $7000. I scraped together every penny I could find to insure her (back then they didn't exclude as much!). I paid $300 for the yearly premium. The grey died age 8 of cancer, in surgery. The insurance paid for surgery and euthanasia, $3000. I had only paid $300 into insurance. To date insurance has paid me WAY more than I paid in for premiums. Actually I think insurance companies run when they see my name.
  12. I will keep Tempo in my prayers. Diamond never developed lung mets. She got OS in another leg 6 months after her amp.
  13. I was going to go to the vets today but neither of my two favorite vets are there. So we're going tomorrow. Opal was born in KS. Never raced. Didn't even make the training farm. Wasn't even named. She got kicked off the farm because her littermates picked on her (she was the runt). When they moved her to a younger litter, she picked on them. So they released her at a year old to adoption. She went straight to prison program, then shipped to NJ at 18 months old. She's lived with me since. 8 yrs. So I doubt it's valley fever. Her limp is very pronounced on the right front and she yelped when I pressed her shoulder. Same spot that Diamond had her OS.

He was very handsome! I'm sorry he's left for the Bridge. And hugs for you also on the loss of your other furkid.
  15. Look online for vetmedin, You can find some good prices out there. It IS a miracle drug. Pearl had heart disease diagnosed at age 5. Her prognosis was 2-3 yrs. She lived to 12 and died of cancer! Don't give up hope. Her problem was with her mitral valve too. When she started vetmedin her left ventricle was enlarged (I don't remember numbers, she passed 3 yrs ago), but she had a cardiologist monitoring her heart since 5. So we caught the enlargement early. But the vetmedin brought it down. Cancer is what took her. Kisses to Lazer!
  16. All the time. My horse was a monthly regular when he threw his back out. He then went on every other month maintenance. All my greyhounds (10 to date) have had regular visits. They used to all get monthly adjustments when I could afford it way back when, but purse strings are a little tighter now. So since they are young they go every 3 months. It'll go down to 2 then monthly as they get older. I absolute believe in it.
  17. My dentist was very conservative when it came to pulling teeth. But I could see the roots of Diamond's molars. So I did take her to a dentist. She lost 23 at one shot. She was miserable for a couple of days but once her mouth healed it was obvious that before that dental she was uncomfortable. There was a noticeable change in her behavior with her mouth feeling better. And she didn't have trouble eating. The only thing I didn't give her were hard treats like milk bones. She didn't need a dentist after that. So while the vets didn't call, I think your baby will eventually feel like a million dollars.
  18. My Opal had her leg is a splint last year and actually did very well for 3 weeks (she had surgery to fuse the bones in her foot after blowing a tendon). They wanted to go to a soft cast but she had pressure sores and even that bothered her. So....she went without andy cast. Those sores came on fast and took long to heal. Also, be very careful about getting the cast wet. Even dew on the grass is too much. But don't keep plast bags on full time either because they cause the foot to sweat, which is the same thing.
  19. I lost a 5 yr old. And even though she's been gone 13 yrs now, her legacy lives on in all the whilte/black girls I adopt.
  20. OMG, He was only four! He was much too young. I'm so very sorry for their loss.
  21. Da Bwat (who just had surgery to remove a dermal hemangiosarcoma just a month ago) is limping on her right front. I see no swelling or corns, feel no heat anywhere. When my Diamond has OS, I just knew when I saw her limp what it was. Opal (Da Bwat for those who don't know) was roaching this morning, so not laying funny on the leg. She got off the couch and was limping very noticeably. But the more she walked the less noticeable it became. And it does disappear at times. She's been limping for ... maybe 5 days now? A week? Not more. So please reassure me that OS DOES NOT get better when walking on it. (and I'm trying to avoid the vets since she's been there 4 times since May....all over $300 each)
